As you guys may recall (or not) I work as a camera man for a local news station. Thanks to the economy, however, the gig isn't paying much these days. They've cut back on my hours. So, I've been doing a lot of freelance work lately.

A few minutes ago I was e-mailed about a shoot happening this Friday. The details were vague, so I looked up the company to check if they were legit or not. It's a porn company! What the...?

So, yes, your friend Catman has officially been offered a porn gig. And, no, I'm not doing it. I'm not THAT broke.

dood it's as the camera man, not the bloody star, take the job and the money. if you're really worried about it find out what sort of film it's gonna be.

hell i'm a photographer who makes most(if any) money on nature, but if i was offered a gig to shoot a playboy shoot, damn right i would take the offer

You'll be saving yourself a lot of trouble not to take it. There are a lot of things that happen behind the scenes while pornos are being shot that would make most people's stomachs turn-- and the lower rent the business, the worse it's going to be.

Also, it could potentially come back to bite you later. It doesn't matter if you're just the camera guy, because there are a lot of companies that get iffy about hiring people who have pornography in their job history.

I'm a fellow news Cameraman and must say you've made the right decision! It would be damn near impossible to get work if anyone found out about you working porn. Plus even as a cameraman you're gettin in there pretty close to the action. I've shot surgeries before and I bet that's way easier to stomach then gettin close ups of that!
Off topic but what market and station do you work for? I'm in Iowa at a CBS affiliate.

In Tv News Cameramen are also called photographers occasionally. I got into it by starting off doing some freelance gigs and building up contacts and a reel. Then sent it in to some stations and here I am. I still freelance on the side to keep expanding the resume.

All jokes aside, I imagine that this sort of work would turn off other professional companies if they knew you did a porn shoot. All work has a stigma attached to it, be it negative or positive.

that's not exactly true.. plus he doesnt need his name in the credits if he doesnt want it. Employers would have no idea unless he listed it on his resume. Plus out here in los angeles alot of film majors actually get there start in editing careers by editing porn. No shame in it.

A while back, I was watching this porn blooper where the dude was just about to finish on this girl's face. The camera man was right there getting a close up from behind the girl, and he ended up getting stuff all on his face instead of the girl. That's going to end up happening to Catman.
