Catman Almost Does Porn!

Your not that broke? Whats not to like, unless you get the (we'll call it stuff) on your face like Warhammer says.

Do it.

I don't see why not if you can use a psudenym like Ben Dover or Justin Thyme in the credits. A cheque is a cheque

I like how everyone assumes Catman is not going to be in a situation where the place is dingy and/or the girl is completely unattractive. :o

so basically, you turn down an opportunity to get paid to watch live porn....:whatever:

btw, what kind of porn was it?

i don't blame Him, ever see those porn bloopers where the camera man gets a load to the face., *shudders*

yeah, there was a scene in the zack and miri movie where the camera man gets a load to the face...and that was disgusting.

Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades.

Ah ha, I thought they'd automatically have his name in there. I don't think it's shameful at all, I can just understand why he may have concerns about doing it.

yeah you can easily be uncredited if u wish. plus who watches porn credits anyway?

As you guys may recall (or not) I work as a camera man for a local news station. Thanks to the economy, however, the gig isn't paying much these days. They've cut back on my hours. So, I've been doing a lot of freelance work lately.

A few minutes ago I was e-mailed about a shoot happening this Friday. The details were vague, so I looked up the company to check if they were legit or not. It's a porn company! What the...?

So, yes, your friend Catman has officially been offered a porn gig. And, no, I'm not doing it. I'm not THAT broke. :o

porn camera man or porn actor?

some friend i met ended up working in the business end of porn and she actually asked me if i wanted a referral to her company in CA. i think every guy wouldnt mind it once, but once is enough to stain you forever in the job world

I've done some freelance camerawork before, and I think there's something very important that needs to be said: The people who are saying "go for it" have obviously not heard the same kinds of stories that I have. The fact of the matter is that a lot of gross stuff happens on those sets, and a camera man accidentally getting it in the face because someone had bad aim is just the start of it. I understand that a lot of people like pornography, so I'm not going to try and wave around the wand of morality here. However, it really does take a strong stomach to make those kinds of videos, and while I will not pretend I know Catman's specific reasons for not wanting involvement I can certainly think of plenty as to why I wouldn't, both personal and professional.

he already turned it down. No one on the internet is going to get him to change his mind...

lol

It doesn't matter if you're just the camera guy, because there are a lot of companies that get iffy about hiring people who have pornography in their job history.

Your job history only goes as far as what you tell them. It's not like they are actually going to investigate your work previous employment history to make sure you haven't done something "questionable", like a How-2-do: Abortions video. If anything, use a stage name if you don't want your name on it. Don't get freaked out by people saying stuff like this, thousands of people have done some form of work for the adult industry behind the camera, and still do high profile professional work as well.

Besides, given the Economy, take the money now, it may not be there in the future. Just make sure you work for people who will pay you in a prompt manner.

Unless the position is that of "Fluffer" for the Male Actors, I say take it!

It's easy to say take it, but watch that movie with Emile Hirsch called The Girl Next Door....that is a seedy ass business, and it can be dangerous. That movie exaggerated some for comedic effect, but behind the scenes, it can get disturbing.

Personally, I couldn't do this type of work. Timstuff and Terry are right. That is some shiesty ass business going on. I don't even think I could watch two people doing the nasty nasty right in front of me and it's not even that simple.

I like how everyone assumes it's straight porn.

personally i think it just depends on your mentality. I know 2 gay porn companies that are online based, that ive seen alot of behind the scenes stuff from, and they seem like 2 of the most professional, clean, and matured mentality. And they look at things as acting and performing over "just having sex" Usually you can tell a porn companies worth and class by the quality of there camera's and location.

dood it's as the camera man, not the bloody star, take the job and the money. if you're really worried about it find out what sort of film it's gonna be.

hell i'm a photographer who makes most(if any) money on nature, but if i was offered a gig to shoot a playboy shoot, damn right i would take the offer

honestly the more i think about my earlier comments the more i think i made a bad analogy, working as the camera man, would be a bad move, honestly there is still a large difference of a camera man and a photographer in the public's eye.

a photographer working a glamour shoot isn't as looked down upon as much as someone shooting a porn film, now the glamour shoot is still a touchy subject and depending on the client and subject matter can been seen in a lot of ways, where no matter how tastefully or high budget people simply see porn as porn, i now think you made the right choice.

Let me just address a few things:

1. Yes, it's a photography gig not an acting one.

2. I have no idea what type of porn it is. The e-mail was very vague. Once I found out it was a porn company behind it I didn't reply to the e-mail. In other words, I turned it down.

3. I have nothing against getting paid to watch naked people. I've actually done it before. However, porn is a different story. And, yes it could be easy for someone to find out I did this even if I don't put it in my resume. Whoever sent me the e-mail obviously got my contact info from someone who I had done legit freelance work for. It's not like I'm going around giving my card to random people. So, it's possible for word to easily get around.

4. For those asking how to get into the photography field...as far as working for a news station is concerned you have to apply for a job. Or do an internship in college and hope it turns into a job. That's what happened to me. As for video work, you have to start making contacts.

A while back, I was watching this porn blooper where the dude was just about to finish on this girl's face. The camera man was right there getting a close up from behind the girl, and he ended up getting stuff all on his face instead of the girl. That's going to end up happening to Catman.

[blackout]I hope I am not the only one who's seen that porno blooper before.[/blackout] :csad:
I've seem the same one:hehe:
In Tv News Cameramen are also called photographers occasionally. I got into it by starting off doing some freelance gigs and building up contacts and a reel. Then sent it in to some stations and here I am. I still freelance on the side to keep expanding the resume.

I'm making a short film at the moment and entering it into a film festival to see how it goes, also I'm going to this film thing every month from tomorrow that just started, so I hope to meet people there.
