Channing Tatum is Magic Mike

I'm sitting in a theater right now waiting for this to start. My girlfriend and her friends dragged me along. So guess I'll put up a review later tonight.

Yes, your girlfriend and her friends.....

:o

The worst part is, I'm actually telling the truth but no one will ever believe me.

God, the previews for this just make me feel terrible about my body. Honestly, I feel like a chubby 13 year old girl on the cusp of developing an eating disorder because she sees that society considers borderline anorexic girls best over all shapes and sizes.

Excuse me while I go move into a gym and consume nothing but pure protein for the rest of my life. :csad:

... and of all the emoticons you could have chosen, you went for the one shaking his fist.

Okay, I ain't sayin' nothin' ...

:oldrazz:

he really wanted to use :jedi: don't let him fool ya

Alright so...

There were things I enjoyed about the movie, and there were some I really didn;t. I'll start with the pros.

PROS:
The acting was fantastic. Its probably been said but Channing Tatum really works here. The Kid played by Alex Pettyfer really came off as a down on his luck nobody who rises to the occasion when he's thrust into this world of stripping. His overall downfall (which arguable actually leaves him at the top) is really well played. Lastly, Matthew McConaughey was really great, although we saw a lot more of his over the top entertainer side than his sleazy, more corrupt side.

The supporting cast is nice, but most of the other stripper actors are sorely underused. They did set up nicely through actions things like their drug use, which factors into the later half of the plot.

To say the least, despite my not going for the male nudity, the routines thought up for the guys were pretty creative, and assuming Tatum did all that himself, deserves a lot of praise for pulling that stuff off.

When there was humor, most of it was pretty good. I think some of the previews sell it as quite a bit more comedic than it really is.

CONS:
The story just felt so bland to me. Not that it was bad, but I feel it really didn't go anywhere. I do understand the idea, that Mike wanted more out of life and finally realized he didn't want the life of a stripper forever, while The Kid, while slipping into the darkest regions of the job, found himself on top, basically setting him up as the next Mike. But I just didn't feel like the story was done. Even at around a two hour running time, I felt like things were missing by the time we reached the end.

Like I said above, although the supporting cast was great, I feel like most of them were very under used. They were in a lot of scenes, but they didn't really do much.

OVERALL:

Well, I didn't hate it, but I didn't really like it either. It was pretty well done, but it just didn't really leave an impact on me. I'd wait for the DVD.

6/10 Also, Oliva Munn shows her boobs in the first 5 minutes and they really aren't anything special.

My opinions, I'm no film critic.

This one is funny :D

The Rules of Magic in Magic Mike

To be invisible, you must first be fully seen.
When Harry Potter wants to be invisible, he merely covers himself with a magical cloak — but Magic Mike must expose himself completely in order to disappear afterwards. That is why he has the tearaway pants, which are like a Visibility Cloak. Magic is full of paradoxes. In one of the trailers, someone asks Magic Mike to remember that there's a whole world in the daylight, a world in which nobody knows him — but Magic Mike is already aware of this. He is the quintessential urban fantasy hero, whose magic only gains strength after dark. In the secret places, in the city hidden inside the city.

Its interesting that she is resorting to showing her goods off since her acting career isnt going anywhere, Id still hit though.......:hrt:

I wish this movie was focused on Joe Mantegolia Oo butchered that last name and Matt Bomer. They are way better actors and more interesting than Channing Tatum and Alex Pettyfer
Yeah, Channing isnt the one i want to see in this movie, sorry. I find him so unattractive, and i dont exactly like his acting either. My focus shall be the other men; even Alex Pettyfer grabs my focus more than Channing lol. Matthew shirtless on the other hand... oooh my :awesome:. When will this movie get to my country?! :cmad: :csad:. I told my sister we must go see this one together lol.

I don't find Channing Tatum or Matthew McConaughey attractive, and I think Alex Pettyfer is way overrated (and a bad actor).

Matt Bomer is far better-looking than either of them, IMO.

So the trailers kind of lied about this movie, it is not just a fun movie to watch half naked guys dance sexy.
The story is pretty much Mike(Tatum) is a 30 year old stripper who ends up taking on a young slacker he nicknamed the Kid(Pettyfer) to start working in the strip club owned by Dallas(McConaughey), who's hesitant about it. The Kid lives with his sister Brooke(Cody Horn) because again he's a slacker who's pretty much going nowhere in his life. She learns of his stripping pretty early on and of course a seed of attraction to Mike is planted. The high life is accentuated until drugs are introduced to Kid, and then it gets dramatic; it shows a nice path to resolution for Mike, but leaves another path open for Kid.

It has the feel of an indie movie that happens to have Hollywood quality male stripper scenes in it. Tatum is at his best, and you get to fully see his ass a good couple of times. Cody Horn as Brooke is alright, she's pretty flat as an actress(think Chloe Sevigny) but considering she's the daughter of one of the producers, it's no surprise how she got this role. Olivia Munn plays a recurring booty call for Tatum and enjoys threeways with other women included. Pettyfer does a good job as the slacker who manages to get lucky and get ahead by doing little to nothing. The writing isn't that impressive, it doesn't suck though, it's passable. It's a more than simple story that's told simply, it's Tatum's performance that actually keeps you engaged in the movie.

I was a little annoyed with the dance scenes simply because they're all fully in the trailers(except for McConaughey's). I know it wasn't a dance movie ala the Step Up movies, but I expected more. Plus for the ones they did show, I expected them to be longer. This movie is just a huge tease when it comes to the dance scenes so they can get back to the movie's story. I was expecting this to be this generation's The Full Monty, and at first it does seem like it, but then it gets gets to the drugs introduction.

A warning is that it shows a lot of nudity but not overly-glorified. You got Tatum and Pettyfer's asses a couple of times, Matt Bomer ass(my personal fave) a penis in a penis pump, Olivia Munn's boobs, and a random blonde's huge boobs; and then McConughey's dance is the skimpiest complete with a full moon. Lots of men in underwear too.

I don't know how, but they got Kevin Nash in the movie. They severely underused Bomer and Manganiello. I'm not saying that because they're sexy, but you literally have nothing to go on their characters other that Bomer introduces Pettyfer to ecstasy and Manganiello can sew costumes and get people to shut up.

I'd give it a 7/10, give it a watch but you don't have to rush to see it.

I thought this was pretty good, third movie this year Tatum has surprised me so I think I need to stop bashing him so much. The first half of this movie is really fun to watch, ridiculously unrealistic but fun. The second half is alright but not as good, once they start to bring in plot points and stuff the movie starts to fail. The worst part is definitely the woman Tatum falls for my God she's a bad actress. Overall id say its a solid 7/10

Pretty fun movie. The acting is great expect for the girl who plays "The Kid"'s sister (She almost brings down every scene she is in). The first half is definitely the better half but the second is still pretty good.

My theater was packed. 80% full with woman, 60% seemed to be over 30, but I just happened to sit two seats away from the only insecure man in the theater who had to comment the whole time.

Just saw this. Yeah, a dude alone, going in to ask for tickets... lets just say it was kinda awkward lol. I think I was the only dude in there by their own merits. The film was entertaining. It could have been more, but hey - I was expecting 'Boogie Nights' and '54'. One thing I thought was funny was I seemed to be enjoying it more than the women in the audience, which I'm not sure is a good thing for keeping the women flocking in lol. I dug the drama and how cool it is that just do this and you can pretty much get girls all over you - that was cool. Yet again, before the darker aspects, I was interested in the kinds of lives led in 'Boogie Nights' and '54' too - so making it seem like a good life initially, kudos thete. Also dudes, lots of awesome boob action - talking double DDs (especially one of the guys' wife) and a nightclub where girls are pole dancing nude (where are those kinds of night clubs?). Soderbergh is a comedic genius too - at a lot of points women were getting excited thinking "this is the moment we get dick!" (very audible crowd) and it always cuts out before it gets there. Some left kinda saying "that was it?"- feel like they thought it would be all male stripping in which - I think that's only a total of ten - thirteen minutes, if that, in a almost 2 hr film. The acting was good, the story was interesting, and it kept me entertained. 7-8/10.

Very brave. And then very horny after seeing all the hot girls and wanting to also feel up the hot double d wife lol. I practically left wanting to get up on stage, take my shirt off and get busy with a chick I pull out of the audience lol. I mean just the notion of that - "as long as you're up on stage and shirtless, you can pull girls of your choosing up then do what you want with them and get paid." If it wasn't for the drawbacks and how that could easily fall apart - sounds like an oddly fun gig. But, yeah I'm still early to mid 20s so I'm as easily roped in by that notion as Adam is.

You could just go to the kiosk and use your debit/credit card to buy the ticket, if your place offers that.

It was broken lol. Also any guys entering - you'll still be handing in your ticket, getting into the theater itself, and other things wondering if anyone is judging why you're going to see a movie about male strippers lol. BUT awesome and ironic thing? I'd say guys get to see more hot and naked girl action than girls get to see anything. On IMDB - lots of reports are saying guys are surprised by it and like the hot girls in it, while the girls are disappointed by the end because the lack of seeing things. About five to six minutes of boobs, sometimes double Ds, while 0 of dick. Definitely directed by a guy, starring mostly guys, and I even think written by a guy - and it shows. The first strip scene's focus was Adam's reaction to seeing the power these guys have over these girls. Definitely should have found a way to target it to both demographics more.
