Is anybody watching this? I'm a career firefighter and have been for 8 years now. While some things in the show i find ridiculous as a ff myself but I dont watch tv for realism. Plus I live the job so I don't really need to see it on tv. For entertainment purposes thougg the show is pretty good. Not the best but not the worst. I am enjoying the fact that Firefighters have a show based around the job though. Cop shows are a dime a dozen

The first episode was cool, kinda bummed that the second got pushed back unless I messed the schedule up...

I saw the pilot, it felt like it came from that batch of shows in the 90's like ER and NYPD Blue, cliche'd but not bad and the the season looks like it could grow from the promo shown at the end.

No it's not a rescue me rip off. It is a good show, like I said it is unrealistic in ways but for entertainment it's good. I enjoyed it. You can connect with the characters or at least i can. I hope it has a good run so that it can develop more

I thought the second episode was a step up from the pilot, it certainly improved Severide's character. Interesting to see Dale from TWD in such a small role.

Next weeks ep looks like it could be the start of the shows first big arc.

It's already 10 times better than Chicago Code ever was, imo. I'm watching it. Like you said, a show about FireFighters is pretty neat, and I don't recall ever really seeing one before - I didn't watch Rescue Me. It's TV, of course, it's gotta have the typical TV things, but I do like that the cast actually has trained with the CFD to help bring an air of authenticity to what they're doing. So far, I think it's pretty good. I'll give it the full season and see where I stand at the end of it.

How's this show doing, ratings wise? I'm diggin it but I'm not gettin too excited cuz I liked Trauma too.

Point out some of the unrealistic stuff please; besides that amputation haha. I find firefighting fascinating.

Well just a few things that comes to mind are .....being in a fire without wearing your scba mask uhhh firefighters with beards ....it prevents getting a good seal to ur face with the mask. Sticking a patient in the heart with a needle without medcontrol being contacted even then kinda iffy. Getting a rythim on a heart monitor with it being connected to the patient. Too much visibility in the fire ..but its tv and it looks good lol. Im enjoying it

Without it being connected to patient. Doing this on my phone. Please excuse any errors

Yeah I always wondered about beards and scba masks. They make me trim mine at work before putting on a respirator; I'm a biologist. And dude, I can't even imagine the crappy visibility you guys have during a serious blaze. But obviously they need to show us lots for a tv show.

Yeah visibility doesnt really get better till the structure has been vented and the fire is mostly out. You really operate on touch and sound. Even hearing is limited with everything going on.

I had no idea they sent guys up to the roof to cut a hole and vent the building. It makes perfect sense, just never occurred to me.

Yeah i did like that part of the show. U vent away frim ur entry point because fire needs oygen to burn and it will find it so u dont want it running towards you. I also like that they had a debriefing of the call afterwards and talked about what should been done different

Yeah, the "whiteboard" session. Idk if anybody will get blamed for that considering Dearden made the conscious decision to go into the window.

I didn't quite understand why Vargas was putting in for a transfer nor how it would help him get a promotion.

Getting better with each episode, I think they have done a good job toning down Severide from the pilot, he was a cocky *****e in that but he's dropped that and become more likable in the second and third eps.

This new arc with the bent cop is interesting, I hope it plays out over a few eps and isn't wrapped up quickly. I only really know of Jesse Spencer from Neighbours and even by that shows low standard for acting he was poor, but he has matured into a solid actor and the all round cast of characters is good.

I think the squad is seen as the next level as it takes more specific skills or something to be on it, so it's the next rung on the promotional ladder.

^I literally went "aw, bros again!" when Severide ate the corned beef in the fridge that Casey made haha.

I'm already so into this show after only 3 episodes. This better not get Trauma'd :(

Well as far as primotions go its based on certifications and experience and usually a test in most depts. There are a bunch of certs u gain and a lot required. There is more to the job than most think. Im working on my degree in fire science but just to throw out a few there is investigator, inspector, instructor, wildland fire, extrication specialist, building collapse, scba specialist, apparatus operator, arieal operator, hazmat tech, emt, paramedic, rit team, clandestine Meth labs, airport ff,etc. There is a bunch and you have to have some before u can get others.as far as positions go therr is drivers engineers, capts, lts, battallion chiefs, asst. Cheifs, public education officers, arson investigators and so on. Its a career not a job. A way of life and ueah some of us are cocky and arrogant to a point. We do a job most cant do and we are good at it. Sometimes it can make you a lil cocky.

Lol! :D Severide's non-conversation with Nicki's Dad this week made me laugh, I just wonder how they get around his shoulder issue, I mean it's early to take him out of the field but reality is spelled out to him if he doesn't get the op.

Numbers have remained solid I think.

Wouldn't be surprised if he battles through it and then as it gets worse somethin' happens on the job and they take the decision out of his hands.

Tv series that are filmed in Chicago don't last long so don't get attached.
