Kimberly Peirce Wants "Childhood's End"
By Garth Franklin
Thursday January 10th 2008 12:15am
"Boys Don't Cry" director Kimberly Peirce is keen on doing a big-screen adaptation of Arthur C. Clarke's "Childhood's End".

Talking with MTV News, she says "I love Childhood's End. That's a phenomenal book. We have a draft of that and we'll see if Universal wants to make it. If you're going to launch something that big, you need a big movie star. It's probably not less than a $70 million dollar movie. You go to that movie with a certain appetite for spectacle."

The book from the classic "2001" and "Rendezvous with Rama" author has aliens coming to earth and helping end wars, prolong life, and basically turn the world into a utopia. One catch though - these aliens look just like Satan.

Peirce is also penning a "dark, sexual story" set in New Orleans that follows "the rise of a great American gangster." Her next film is "Stop Loss" with Channing Tatum and Ryan Phillippe - that opens in March.
