Here's some of my secret tips.

-Use onions twice. One onion is browned along with your meat or whatever vegetarian ingredient you use. The other onion, you chop up and put in raw as the chili is at only simmering temperature maybe 1-2 hours before serving.
-Add additional earthy richness by adding about a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar, a tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce and 1-2 square of dark chocolate during the simmer stage.
