Just wondering if anyone here has gone to a chiropractor. I did for about 8 years. It seemed legit for a long time but as time went on, I got more suspicious. The first time I went in, I was x-rayed and then given a neck adjustment. A few years later, I visited with another complaint but they didn't give me an x-ray. I asked why that was and the doctor said "We're just assuming you are out of alignment." Eventually I stopped going.

Anyone else? Opinions on chiropractic?

I like them more than doctors. However, some aren't that good. It's natural to crack or pop your back to fix it. Better than anabolic Roids to fix it.

I think they make good physical therapists. But the lack of any X-Rays did annoy me.

I've had friends that have gone for a little therapy & they've worse than when they went initially. I suppose it's a double edged sword.

They've been good to me. It's been my experience that any bad rap chiropractors get, is usually just lies of medical docs who try to make you believe chiropractors are nuts.

They are quacks but if they know what they are doing and have good experience they can be helpful with certain things.

there are good chiro's and quack chiro's. just like there are good doctors and bad doctors, lawyers, dentists, car salesmen, register jockey's.

overall, i think chiropractor's get a bad rap. good ones can do pretty amazing things.

i hate the criticism that its a total scam because they want you to come back every six months. but this is true for pretty much everything health related, i.e. doctor check ups, dentists, etc...

I agree that there are good ones and bad ones in almost every occupation. But on this particular topic, the only chiro that I've ever come across is the one that saved my Dad's back and allowed him to recover from his injury and walk again under his own power. That chiro gets my full love and praise.

Find a good one, I'm all for it. I'm currently recovering from a bad car accident and going to one 3 times a week plus massage therapy.

This!!

People who say they are all quacks are ignorant. A lot of the time people go to them is for back problems(like my dad, and myself if I don't start taking better care) and once you **** up your back once, it's pretty much permanently ****ed to a degree. A Chiropractor isn't a miracle worker or healer as if you were to get surgery. What they do is help keep your spine(amongst other parts of the body)in line and relieve pain and pressure.

As I said before, your spine/back is incredibly sensitive and easy to **** up permanently, they just keep it in check when it starts to get out of whack every now and again.

It's the people that go in thinking it's going to be fixed and then they don't ever have to go back that give Chiropractors a bad name.

I wouldn't go to someone who isn't a doctor and allow them to fix my neck or back when they are one kink away from paralyzing me. As someone already said, they are good physical therapists but without xrays or proper diagnosis which they cannot do they are pretty much pointless...to me. If they work in conjunction with an actual physician then that's fine.

Medicine in general isn't an exact science. (Hell, science isn't an exact science.) Anyone going to any medical practitioner expecting instant, immediate, 100% recovery is an idiot.

I think a lot of the stigma against chiropractors stems from their schooling and the divide between traditional and alternate medicine. I can't comment on the former, but with the latter, it's never a good idea to limit one's options when regarding health care.

my friend used to be a patient of a chiropractor who learned the trade from the guy that actually invented chiropracty. she swore by him as a miracle worker and said he was a great help for her fibromyalgia.

I'd probably go if I could afford it. I know a girl with fibromyalgia that's had good and bad experiences. So it really depends on you finding the right one.
