On the recent episode of Multiverse Musings: A DC Comics Podcast (great show btw you should listen to it if you don’t) they picked their favourite live action portrayals of each Superman world characters (listed below with my picks).

The rules are:

- You can only pick characters that have had at least 3 live action portrayals.
- For any character with a dual role (i.e. Clark Kent and Superman) you can pick two separate actors if you so choose.

Lara - Aylet Zurer
Jor El - Russel Crowe
Martha Kent - Annette O’Toole
Jonathan Kent - John Schneider
General Zod - Terence Stamp
Kara/Supergirl - Melissa Benoist
Jimmy Olsen - Sam Huntington
Lana Lang - Stacey Haiduk
Perry White - Jackie Cooper
Lois Lane - Erica Durance
Lex Luthor - Michael Rosenbaum
Clark Kent/Superman - Tyler Hoechlin

Lana Lang - Stacy Haiduk, the #1 all-star
Superman/Clark Kent - Dean Cain
Lois Lane - Teri Hatcher
Lex Luthor - John Shea
Jimmy Olsen - Justin Whalin
Perry White - Laurence Fishburne
General Zod - Terence Stamp
Supergirl - Helen Slater (by default in my case, but still, I definitely approve)

I haven't watched Smallville and Supergirl (TV), though.

My turn !

Lara - Aylet Zurer
Jor El - Russel Crowe
Martha Kent - Diane Lane
Jonathan Kent - John Schneider
General Zod - Michael Shannon
Kara/Supergirl - Melissa Benoist
Jimmy Olsen - Marc McClure
Lana Lang - Stacey Haiduk
Perry White - Jackie Cooper
Lois Lane - Amy Adams ( by a mile)
Lex Luthor - Michael Rosenbaum

Superman/Clark Kent......I like Henry, Dean, Tom and Tyler but nobody beats the one and only CHRISTOPHER REEVE.

Lara - Helen Slater
Jor El - Terence Stamp
Martha Kent - Annette O’Toole
Jonathan Kent - John Schneider
General Zod - Calum Blue
Kara/Supergirl - Laura Vandervoort
Jimmy Olsen - Aaron Ashmore
Lana Lang - Kristen Kreuk
Perry White - Laurence Fishburne
Lois Lane - Teri Hatcher
Lex Luthor - Michael Rosenbaum
Clark Kent/Superman - Dean Cain

Lara - Helen Slater
Jor El - Julian Sands
Martha - Diane Lane
Jonathan- John Schneider
Lex - Rosenbaum
Lois - Durance
Kara - Benoist
Superman- Chris Reeve
Clark - Welling
Zod - Callum Blu

Interesting choices take it you are fellow fans of Smallville. Callum Blu really did give a great performance as Zod.

Superman - Christopher Reeve (Cavill doesn't even come close)
Supergirl - Melissa Benoist
Lois Lane - Erica Durance
Jimmy Olsen - Sam Huntington
Perry White - Jackie Cooper
Martha Kent - Annette O'Toole
Jonathan Kent - John Schneider
Lana Lang - Kristin Kreuk
Jor-El - Marlon Brando
Lara Lor-Van - Ayelet Zurer
Lex Luthor - Michael Rosenbaum
General Zod - Terrence Stamp

The DCEU versions of Superman, Lois, Perry, Martha, Jimmy, Jonathan, General Zod, and Lex Luthor have all been very disappointing and/or miscast IMO. Those in charge of casting for Smallville and Superman The Movie both seemed to have a much better grasp of the characters.

And for ****s and giggles...
The same thing just with the Justice League!

Superman - Christopher Reeve
Batman - Michael Keaton/Christian Bale (can't decide)
Wonder Woman - Gal Gadot
The Flash - Grant Gustin (Ezra is just the worst)
Green Lantern - Ryan Reynolds
Aquaman - Jason Momoa (wasn't impressed by JL, but we'll see with the solo)
Martian Manhunter - David Harewood

Put em up against Supergirl's White Martians

Superman - Christopher Reeve (Cavill doesn't even come close)
Supergirl - Melissa Benoist
Lois Lane - Erica Durance
Jimmy Olsen - Sam Huntington
Perry White - Jackie Cooper

Please keep the DCEU or any potshots out of this thread. It’s for discussing your ultimate casts not taking shots at alternate versions.

Interesting choices take it you are fellow fans of Smallville. Callum Blu really did give a great performance as Zod.

You know, I’d say I like most every incarnation almost equally (except for Returns, which I don’t think was bad by any stretch.). I think Smallville was able to flesh the characters out very well. And I always felt Welling had good charisma.

And yes, Callum Blu’s take on Zod was awesome. He was more a field officer than an aristocrat or four star general. I thought that made him more dangerous.

I'm the same I'm very open to fresh takes when it comes to the Man of Steel. I've always maintained that Smallvile would not have worked aswell without Welling. He was the heartbeat of the show.

I didn't really think of him like that but you're right. I absolutely loved their take and Blu's performance.

Great idea!

Clark Kent - Dean Cain
Superman - Tyler Hoechlin
Lois Lane - Erica Durance
Lex Luthor - Michael Rosenbaum (Clancy Brown so close)
Jimmy Olsen - Sam Huntington
Perry White - Lane Smith
Johnathan Kent - John Schneider
Martha Kent - Diane Lane
Lana Lane - Kristen Kreuk
Kara Zor-El - Malina Weissman
General Zod - Callum Blu
Metallo - Brian Austin Green
Cat Grant - Callista Flockhart
Toyman - Henry Czerny
Faora - Antje Traue (counting Ursa as an incrnation)
Mr. Mxylsptlk - Howie Mandell
Solomon Grundy - Graham Shiels
Maggie Sawyer - Floriana Lima
Emil Hamilton - Richard Schiff
Bibbo Bibbowski - Bruce Bohne
Sam Lane - Michael Ironside

I think that covers everyone with three appearances

Just to clear up the rule is live action so Clancy Brown as Lex isn’t an appropriate answer as he’s only been Lex in animation.

Superman - Christopher Reeve (who else!). Although Hoechlin's version of CK is my favorite .
Supergirl - Helen Slater
Lois Lane - Erica Durance
Jimmy Olsen - Justine Whalin
Perry White - Lane Smith
Martha Kent - Annette O'Toole
Jonathan Kent - Glen Ford
Lana Lang - Annette O'Toole
Jor-El - Russel Crow
Lara Lor-Van - Ayelet Zurer
Lex Luthor - John Shea
General Zod - Terrence Stamp

I would also add Faora to the list since Ursa is Faora and the winner is ofcourse Antje Troe (spelling?)

Oh silly me, there are lots of 3+ appearance characters from the superman mythology

Metallo - Brian Austin Green
Mxyzptlk- none of em really (and sadly) but I guess the L&C version was the least bad.
Toyman - Chris Gauthier
Bizarro (if you count the bizarro supergirl) - Tom Welling. Infact the smallville Bizarro was quite cool.
Emil Hamilton - Richard Schiff
Sam Lane - Darkse.....er Michael Ironside
Lucy Lane - the supergirl one was fine I guess
Cat Grant - Colista Flockheart

Soon we might be able to add brainiac to that list with the smallville one, brainiac 5 and 8 from SG and (hopefully) classic brainiac from krypton.
I guess Doomsday can also be added soon since Krypton will have their own version to go along with smallville's Hulk-lite version and Snyder's cave troll.

Glad to see someone is a fan of Hackman, while he isn't my all time favourite live action Lex Luthor he was great in the Reeve films.

Yeah, I love the comical slapstick and yet he could also be/transition to quite menacing when it was called for. Especially "By causing the death of innocent people."

There is definitely a lot to like about Hackman’s Lex.

There’s elements lacking in the characterization but there’s a lot to like. Interestingly enough, I think I would put him #2, then Shea 3, and I would actually rank Eisenberg over Spacey, who should’ve been great, but was so one dimensional.
