Clive Davis is the main factor, you're right about that. He's a powerhouse all on his own.
I'VE heard he can be a prick to work with

WHile her songs may not be about celibacy, there is a lot of "I'm keeping my panties on" undertone in her songs. Hell, what was her lead single? If I Have My Way. Translation: you ain't gettin' none. I want to, but I'm not putting out. Not anytime soon. Then there's the fact that all of her other songs are about love, not lust. It's not that she's so much putting herself out there as the poster child for abstinence, but she is competing in a market where virtually every other female singer is prancing around half-naked, shaking her ass, jiggling her boobs & singing garbage lyrics. Her music is tailored to, let's face it, an older generation. One that doesn't go out to the record stores as often as the kids.In every interview I've ever read from her.
As for her not blowing up, I don't think the celibacy thing is a huge factor. It's not like her songs are about that subject.
Real singing just isn't popular, for the most part.
So true looking like a **** with a computer making you sound like a real singer sells albums![]()
No, THIS is a sick burn.

I could go on & on. Chrisette has genuine talent &, IMO, is FAR better looking than any of these girls. (Including Beyonce!) But because she sings about love & not lust, her brain & not her ass, she's considered to be less marketable. It truly disgusts me. You listen to a song like "Golden" or "Love Is You" & you can see what she's about. Real music, real lyrics. Not ridiculous chanting & stupid catch phrases.
Damn. You are so right.

I also forgot Kelis.

God! Every time I heard that song "Milkshake" I wanted to drown her in a vat of milkshake so DJ's would find it inappropriate to play it in her memory.
She has a slight resemblance to Lil Kim.
If you're looking to get on my good side, you're off to a very promising start.YO SON,
this is my new favorite thread.
I had a chance to see her live a few years ago here in saint louis and yes...she is ALL THAT and sounds even better live.
Her vocals are smooth and she's like living poetry. Its not neo soul and its not regular R&B...its GOOD MUSIC.
exactly whats missing today from these one note guys and beyoncieramillanbrookerihanna clones
I'm sorry but, on WHAT planet?Silk Spectre:

Heard a little bit of the new album. So far I'm feeling it a bit. Hopefully this breaks out for her so I can get close to thinking about turning on the radio again.

You sond like a man of discriminating musical tastes. That is to say, you're aware that a good 90% of what's on the airwaves right now is pure garbage unfit for the ears of ******ed, rabid dogs.
Loved her hair long and her first song but now she seems to have sold out a bit and tried to be to comercial.
Haha I upset alot of my friends and coworkers that think I like what's current. Musically I tend to listen to many genres, so it's just not easy to impress me. grew up a huge R&B fan, and I still am one. It's got to be more than some some black guy or girl singing to appeal to me. Chrisette is one of those people that you have to respect, even if you don't like her music. She does her own thing, and it's hard not to respect that. I'm glad she has a respect thread here.![]()
