First of all, I would like you to congratulate me on spelling his hideous name correctly. It took a whole of 20 seconds to get my Fight Club book from my shelf and read it slowly, slowly, got it. But, just because I can spell it, doesn't mean I can pronounce it.

Anyway, I've read Fight Club about 5 times. I love it! The film does a great job, but this is Books and Music, so we talk about the book :oldrazz:

I love his style - so snappy and fresh. Clean, crisp, and fairly sparse. So, who's read the book? If you haven't, why not? Stop reading this and go buy it. It's amazing.

You wake up at LaGuardia.

You wake up at Logan.

I don't know what it is about when I read that, but it just really tickles me. I could read the 208 pages just filled with 'You wake up at [insert airport]'. Don't ask me why, I just love it.

Anyway, I like his style so can anyone recommend any of his others? Are all of them good? I heard Choke is supposed to be good... anyone read it?

Oh, and the ending's pretty different from the film... so there's some incentive to read it. Oh, and when he meets Tyler is different. Ladies, go and read this book; when he meets Tyler, Brad Pitt is naked.

:ikyn

Post!

I didn't enjoy the movie too much, but I enjoyed his short stories from Guts.

i loved both movie and book, but Choke is my all-time favorite book.

Loved Fight Club both book and movie. Still haven't seen Choke but I did read the book and enjoyed very much. I also read Rant which I heard a rumor that they might make a movie of. The book was also another good read. At some point I'm going to check out Haunted.

Invisible Monsters is one of the best books i have ever read.

I loved all his books, Rant, Survivor, Haunted, Diary. Snuff was alright.

Can't wait for Pygmy to come out. Definatly looking forward to that.

I finally read Lullaby and I just love this guy's sense of wit.

"At my apartment, the ceiling is pounding with some fast music. The walls are murmuring with panicked voices. Either an ancient cursed Egyptian mummy has come back to life and is trying to kill the people next door, or they're watching a movie."

Yeah, heh, awesome.

I've read Choke which is ok a little boring. I've read Rant which had an intresting premise and I'll probabley check out the sequel to it. I have also read Invisable Monsters which is quite good.

Chuck Palahniuk has a difficult last name to spell and say. His writing style is kind of post modern satire. He does alot of those bit sized critiques of modern society which sound kind of like he hates the modern world.

Could anyone tell me if Snuff is any good?

If you like Chucks stuff you should check out Bret Easton Ellis. His style kind of influnced Palahniuks. Ellis has written American Psycho, Less Than Zero, Rules Of Attraction, The Informers and Glamorama.

Also Wetlands by Charlotte Roche for the same kind of black humour and gross out antics.

Warren Ellis novel Crooked Little Vein also seems influnced style wise by Palahniuks.

I love Ellis, and I wasn't surprised at all to see an endorsement from him on the front of my Fight Club novel. The styles are very similar - or maybe views on society are similar, rather than actual writing style.

I did not know there was gonna be a sequel to Rant. That's cool. be careful with American Psycho. That book can make you feel like you are going psycho sometimes. Still a great read though. :hehe:

Yeah, that was really disturbing, because he did it so well that he almost puts the reader in that frame of mind. I laughed at things in that book that I have no right laughing about :funny:

So did I... you almost feel bad about it but not really

I love Palahniuk. I didn't care for Snuff at all, but it's the only book by Chuck I've read that I didn't enjoy, and I've read all of his novels. I'm psyched for Pygmy.

It's pronounced: Paul-uh-nik

Choke the film was good, but should've been at least another half hour. It was missing a lot imo.

Rant I wasn't crazy about.

Haunted I didn't like at all.

My fav book would have to be 'Survivor' with 'Fight CLub', 'Invisible Monsters' and 'Choke' right behind.

Yeah, 'American Psycho' was amazing imo. I read it after seeing the movie and then was like "Why the hell didn't that make it in the film". As much as I loved the film, the book just blew it out of the water. Ellis easily is my 2nd fav writer after Palahniuk.

Just read Choke. If it wasn't for me liking the guy's writing style and his prominent wit, I probably wouldn't've liked this book. It's nearly 100 pages longer than Fight Club, and has much less story. What story it does have is overshadowed by the humour... and the ending fizzled.

Still like him, maybe even more seeing as I really enjoyed the read even though the story was pretty weak. Now that's a talent lol :D

Is all his stuff in the first person?

I'm probably going to read Lullaby next.

Hollywood unfortunately doesn't have the guts to film some of the worst stuff in the book. We just got Bateman mentioning them on the phone when he freaks out.

In the book there were a couple of scenes that I thought the film really missed. They were both similar where he's running around the streets during the day, into shops, sweating, eating ham out of a tin lol.

He was much more out of control in the book.

I enjoyed Snuff alot. Its full of the typical Palahniuk witty humor and remarks. Other than that I've read Fight Club, Invisible monsters, Haunted, and Choke.

Choke was good...the movie...not so much.
Loved Survivor and Invisible Monsters.
Snuff, Rant and The Haunted disappointed me a little.

For people who haven't read any of this stuff, I recommend Survivor or Invisible Monsters as a start.

I've heard "Snuff" is good, but I haven't gotten around to reading it.

"Choke" was much better than its movie counterpart. There was a lot missing from the movie.

"Lullaby" was cool in the beginning, then started to drag and I expected to hate it until the very end and I was like :wow: which of course made me love it.

I'm part-way through "Haunted." I like the short-stories better than the actual narrative. Hopefully that will change. My favourite (and when I say that, I mean most disgusting) was Director Denial's about Cora Reynolds and the dolls.

I'd like to read either "Survivor" or "Fight Club" next. Any suggestions?

Fight Club's a must, ross, if you like Chuck's style.

I've just finished Lullaby and feel pretty much the same about it as you do, ross. It took me a while to get through compared to his other books. I just kept finding myself putting it down. It really dragged in parts. I felt it could've been maybe 50 pages shorter.

Yeah eggy, it was kind of tough to get through. Eh...maybe not tough, just not what I was expecting. I was kind of hoping for more spooky/haunted stuff, you know?
But boy that ending, right? :wow:

I'll probably pick up "Fight Club" once I'm done with "Haunted."

Yeh, the ending made up for a lot. I love books that have you a lil confused at what's going on - keeps you paying attention. At the end when everything made sense, I'll admit I was pretty much in awe at Chuck.

I've just picked up a couple of books: Invisible Monsters By Chuck, but first I'll be reading The Rum Diary by the guy in your avy :D. I read Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and absolutely love his style. 'Doctor of Journalism' lol
