So I got a seatbelt law ticket for $104 today :-)awesome:) driving 20 mph on a college campus, mind you. I'm just so happy that this officer who gave me a citation actually cares for my life even though he has no idea who I am and I personally don't give a **** about his. I also propose the govt starts giving tickets for skydiving, running with scissors, or riding your bike down a hill because those are pretty dangerous too and you will be saving so many lives!!!

Its great to see the government investing so much time telling me how much I should protect myself rather than going after criminals doing far worse.

So really what do you feel about these nanny laws? Am I the only one that thinks its a violation of civil rights?

I think you deserve the fine for not following the law and generally being stupid.

im assuming you got pulled over for speeding, and not the seatbelt. My driving school instructor told me you cannot get pulled over for driving without a seatbelt. It's a secondary ticket.

Oh my God. The guv'mint makes you put on a seat-belt! What a violation of your freedom! What an infringement on your human rights! You poor, poor thing :whatever:

I love how strapping a strip of fabric around you before you start a car is treated like a big intrusion from the government. It's like "The government says I should wear pants!! They're interfering with my civil rights!" If you really want your civil rights violated, move to China, you whiner.

Do you know how many lives seat-belts have saved? I was in a wreck in high-school. Got whiplash. Would have been tossed through the windshield on to the highway and made into street-pizza without a belt.

Enjoy scrounging up the 104 bucks. Maybe in the future you won't try to "fight the man" :oldrazz:

I don't care if you think I'm being stupid for not wearing my seat belt...I think thats nobody's business but mine.

No, it was over a seat belt. I don't even know if its legal now that you've mentioned it.

LOL, backfire.

I don't care about your life, but that damn accident you just got in is making me late for something else, and now that they've got to clean your dumb ass off of the pavement, I'm going to be even later. Thanks.

Seatbelts: Time savers.

Its another way to raise revenue, both for the city/county and for insurance companies.

Its ridiculous but its another nanny law to add to the pile thats accumulating. Nothing you can do about it.

Doing our best to undue millions of years of evolution by inadvertently keeping the stupid or unfit alive in the quest for money.

Isn't there enough people as it is?

You broke the law, don't blame the officer....

I was in a wreck, and had I had my seatbelt on, I would have saved my mom A LOT of money because my injuries would not have been as severe....

It is not a dumb law, just because you don't like it....you certainly have a right to your opinion....but IN MY OPINION, the law is a correct one, and the fact that it IS A LAW, means you need to follow it. You didn't, so now ya pay...

How about you calm the **** down!? ...its a discussion if you are going to resort to childish name calling like an immature 1st grader because you can't deal with someone's opinion then stay out.

Secondly if you took time to think, seatbelt or not you would still be late to work. I didn't know that just because you had your seat belt during a car accident you can leave your car behind and go home. There is still going to be cleaning up so what the hell are you talking about

Thats more how I think about it as well.

I respect your opinion and do see your side. Personally, I don't think I deserve a ticket because I was driving 20 mph on a college campus where everyone else drives 20 mph. Not to mention, I go just as fast if not faster on my bike sometimes (which is far more dangerous)...but this isn't about me of course. I just don't see how it is the government's place to force someone to protect themselves. I am all for awareness campaigns and everything but fining people over one hundred dollars for something that harms no one else but that individual seems like a easy way for government to make money off of you while pretending they really care about your life

Well, hopefully it reminds you to put your seatbelt on in the future...whether you are driving 20 mph, or 70 mph...

I am quite calm, and the **** has been down and it shall remain in the down position.

Seatbelts are waaaack! I'm too skilled to get into a wreck! But I wear mine to shut the damn seatbelt alarm up! Plus some driver with zero skills may ram into me. You never know

You don't like the law? Get it changed.

Until then, you get to pay the monies for not following it.

And don't blame the government. Most seatbelt laws came about because of public and public group pressure on the politicians to get them passed. States resisted the laws for years. Just like they resisted the cell phone and texting laws.

I say if your in an accident without your seatbelt on, your insurance company shouldn't have to pay for your injuries. Nor should the other person's insurance company if it's their fault (they'd still have to cover damage to your car). You're making the decision to not take all the safety precautions, so why should they have to pay for it?

The same goes for motorcycle helmets. If you don't want to wear one, fine. But the insurance company doesn't have to pay a dime for any head injuries you get.

Bottom line is, anyone who is so self-righteous they feel they have to make a stand over friggin' seat-belts is going to feel awfully stupid when they're breathing through a tube in the hospital.

I don't wanna wear my seatbelt or have to pay a ticket!

I wanna pay thousands in medical bills and not be able to work for months!

I can see a policy like this being implemented for minors under 18 and seat belts being mandatory in manufacture of vehicles, but after this it really should be left as a matter of choice and concern for one's own individual risk.
