I've created a Superherohype account at a site that uses grid computing that is dedicated to trying to create drugs to cure AIDS. Although I've moved up about 20,000 places by myself, I figure that as a group we can move up to within the first five places and contribute to curing AIDS.

If you'd like to help, please go to this website and sign up under the Superherohype group.

Don't thank me, it's all part of my attempt to become a better human being.

Who else will fall to are unknown hacker:confused:

I figure it's a good idea, because these grid computing screen savers don't interfere with whatever it is your doing, because they only operate when you're not using your computer.

Prevention is better than cure.

Absolutely, but sometimes it can't be helped because you have a drug addiction or sexual addiction.

Oh, I'm all for the plight of searching for a cure as there are many, many innocent victims such as babies born with AIDS due to their parents' indiscretions.

That being said, drug and sexual addiction is controllable. More awareness should be given on how to prevent from getting AIDS than how to cure them.

AIDS, from a certain morbid point of view, does serve as somewhat a deterrent, particularly to drug users. Get a cure and nobody is scared to do drugs, especially carelessly.

Jonty's trying to do something socially redeeming? Forgive me for being suspicious...but....

Although it's socially redeeming, I really want the number one group of this community.

I think ending up talking gibberish while walking down a city street is enough of a deterrant.

You don't die a slow and painful death by talking gibberish.

You, of all people, ought to know that. :o

;)

Don't forget the health care workers, poor souls with cheating spouses, etc...

I thought as much.

But you do end up talking gibberish when half your brain is gone from many years of heavy drug use.

To you and I, that may be right. But to the drug users and the wannabes, that's nothing compared to the fear of contracting AIDS.

Once you get to a certain level of addiction, there is so much despair in their lives that even a threat of death doesn't deter them.

If it did, such diseases would be kept in check.

THe only answer to AIDs is sacrificial virgins...

Yeah, you're right. Nothing much can be done for those hard-core drug users.

But for the experimenting ones, the wannabes, unusually curious teenagers, the ones with still hope of turning around while they still have some sense in them, AIDS can be quite the deterrent.

For most wannabees, the loss of ability and skill is what will deter them.

Death by AIDS is not scary enough?

The loss of ability and skill is temporary at best! It is something those wannabes accept! They know the effects of getting high on drugs, that's why they take them in the first place. It's 'cool' to have temporary loss of ability and skill. That's what getting high is all about!

But death by AIDS? Your very own mortality at high risk? That's not scary? C'mon, Jonty. You're smarter than that.

Why do you persist on arguing for the sake of argument, WL?

I'm not, but I thought you were, Mr. Last Word.

I don't view it as scary, because my own personal habits don't put me at risk.
