I haven't made a thread in a long time and I don't think too many people here know me.
But I'm in the Army and I got back from Italy a few weeks ago (just training stuff). While I was there, my friends and I had a lot of fun. Going out nearly every night, drinking, etc.
One night we went to a strip club. While I was in the back with some more private fun, 4 guys jump one of the guys in my group. They all escape (we're supposed to be "undercover" when we're out of country) with me, one female friend, and two strippers still in the back.
Now, I had been drinking, but only a little. I felt a small, relaxing buzz. But I had my wits still. I paid for four seperate dances. They told me I was paying about 30ish-50ish euro for each dance. I've never been to a strip club before, and this was my first time out of the U.S. so I thought "I'll allow myself to spend 200, 300 euro max. I actually had a lot of money for my age, I could afford it, and it was a one-time thing.
Between each dance, I would swipe my debit card (which, admittedly, was apparently a bad area to use electronics to pay, cause they steal your information). However, when I'd be asked to sign, there was no place they showed how much I was paying. I've seen a couple other places that do that, and then on the receipt you keep it shows the price, but they didn't give it to me. At the end, when I gave them my signed tickets, they gave me my copy of the receipt. On this, I discovered they had overcharged me. They said I spent 800 euro, which I discovered later meant over 1300 dollars.
I didn't complain becausee there was a bouncer standing right next to me that looks like a giant. Sure, maybe I'm "trained to kill", but I know a losing fight when I see one. Turns out that was good, because a few minutes later I needed the bouncer's help when 5 Nigerian taxi drivers got in a fight over who would give us a ride and even started getting violent with us. The taxi drivers sell drugs (like cocaine) and carry guns with them. I told them that I was calling the carabinieri (sorry if I spelled that wrong, anyone who speaks Italian) and that I knew a few personally (I'm an MP). Two of the taxi drivers fled instantly, and another soon followed. The last two seemed to be friends. After I called in and gave the MP desk my situation and our driver's information, we went home.
Naturally, I got a lot of crap and jokes for this from friends and co-workers in my unit. I expected it. I mean, it IS a funny story. But some people (who usually don't know the FULL story, just parts of it they've heard from other people) actually say that I made bad decisions and stuff. From my story, it looks like I was just caught up in a lot of bad luck and got out of it alright (I didn't get shot!)
So, what is it? Was I stupid? Or did I just have bad luck?
Also, because people always ask:
1. I still had plenty of money, I did not lose everything
2. No, what the girls did was not worth 1300 dollars.
