I moved some where new and shipped my computer to me. when I got it I tried to turn it on but all it made was a ringing sound. The fans were running and the light on the tower went on but nothing happened other then the ringing. Obviously it got damaged on the way here (thank god for shipping insurance) but I'm just wondering what it is and how to get it fixed?

Any help I would greatly appreciate.

Did you check all the wires to see if they were loose? At the store I work at, the register made a ringing sound. We checked the wires and found one loose. Now it's working perfectly.

open it up and make sure everything is secure. Possibly loose ram

I remember the good old days when if something electronic didn't work you just had to blow the dust off of it.

haha the good old days.

I had a similar thing happen to me and it turned out the power button had gone and in turn fried my motherboard:csad:

Or plug it in.

Like the instruction manuals :hehe: which are written like users are the dumbest persons on earth. It doesn't work? Check if it's plugged!

i had a similar thing the power button built into my 1st tower case failed. so i bought a similar type of button from radio shack but it was too big to use in the front panel. so i added longer wire to it and attached it on the back, attached to one of the slits you knock out for extra plug ins like sound card/modem etc and it worked just fine :hehe:.

Thanks guys, turns out the problem was the people at the post office dropped it and two of the memory slots on the mother board are now broken. But the other two work fine so the computer still works. I can't get new memory but at least I can use the computer.

Thanks again to all who replied.

People who drops a computer should go to jail :o

Unless they're programmers, then it can be COMPLETELY understandable.
Though, this isn't the case here.

Is the Post Office going to cover the repair or replacement of the computer?
