Cop Gone Wild

I mean I can understand suspicions but, this is jus' a lil' over the top.

He was picking up his friend.

The cop was a dick...plain and simple.

No, he was meeting his friend there while having a video camera turned on in the back. The kid obviously knew there were police there, and even after the officer explained to him that there have been crimes against automobiles there at that time of night, the kid still refused to answer his questions in a jackassery manner.

Yea I totally agree that the officer was a dick, but its not like the kid didnt want that to happen (obviously considering his tone with the officer at first) for his night-vision camcorder.

This is almost no different than the college student who got tased in california for not cooperating with police officers. People will see that as "OMG he got tased for not showing his I.D.!!" When in fact the kid had to have school I.D. to be in the library, and when he didnt produce one he refused to leave...even after being told to leave by not only the staff but police officers and resisted them.

You guys have to keep an open mind on BOTH sides, not just the person who was "the victim" here.

Who keeps a cam on the roof of his car turned on when driving btw? hmmm

Did you listen to the clip? That isn't true. After the police officer started acting like a psycho, the guy was nothing but polite, constantly saying he didn't want trouble and that he was sorry. He has a video camera because he knows that this kind of thing happens, and it has happened to him before.

Yea I totally agree that the officer was a dick, but its not like the kid didnt want that to happen (obviously considering his tone with the officer at first) for his night-vision camcorder.

He didn't have a tone. I'd like to think I could ask an officer why he's questioning me without him turning into psycho cop.

In that case, the kid was tased multiple times, which they are not allowed to do. And all because he wasn't supposed to be in the library?? And, if you watch the clip again, you'll notice that he just wanted to get his bag, then BAM! He gets tased.

You don't have to answer an officer's questions. You have the right to ask why you're being pulled over.

I've seen clips with guys that had 10 times worse "attitude" than this kid, and the cop was able to handle it much more professionally.

It kinda reminds me of Supertroopers :D Anyone else remembers that?

now im not into cars, so im not sure if the car the kid had was a racer or anything, but ive seen that angle of video in cars that race, perhaps it had more than one use. and im talking 'illegal street racing' if you look it up on youtube you get that view a whole helluva lot.

what i don't understand is, those cameras for the police cars, do catch some sound, wouldn't he be worried he would get caught saying he makes stuff up to take people to jail on his own camera? these cops have scary power, and obviously, they do not think before they use it.

yea i double posted, what of it?

It was an empty parking lot. Who's car was he going to steal? Yeah, he wanted to get something on film, I don't blame him. He said this sort of thing happens regularly.

Regardless of how the kid questioned the cops motives, the cop should have been able to maintain his composure. If he can't do that on a very simple 'traffic stop' such as this, (which he couldn't - he completely lost it) then he is not suited for that profession. He may have been a good cop at one time, but it's obvious he can no longer handle the job.

More news relayed by members of another board that happen to be from the St. Louis area:
  • The officer has been suspended without pay.
  • His Chief of Police is claiming that the officer's dash-cam footage is "inexplicably missing".
  • It turns out that this same Chief of Police was disciplined at another department a few years ago for harrassment charges stemming from him propositioning a 17-yr-old girl he stopped for a traffic violation. The Chief was quoted as repeatedly telling the girl that she was "beautiful", "irresistable", etc.
  • This department the psycho cop was in was well known for speed traps, and almost 1/3rd of the municipality's budget comes from traffic tickets.
For those still thinking of giving some sympathy to the officer in question, here's a quote from another police officer:

Just did some more research on the video and I guess it is real. What a horrible Horrible repersentation of our profession. This is the type of person that has no place wearing a badge. I know we all have our bad days and get sick of certain types of people pushing our buttons, but there is simply no excuse for this.

And that fact that the dash cam went missing is in my opinion a clear example of conscienceness of guilt.

What are you suggesting? That the officer just decided to be a dick to the kid out of the blue? The officer's patience was tested purposely by the kid which was plainly obvious. Did the officer raise his voice from the start? No. Did he start making threats in his first few sentences? No.

I'm not giving sympathy for the officer or trying to defend the ass, but when you go to an area that you know the police are watching, with a night-vision camcorder and reply with smartass questions with each question the officer asks you, all your doing is pushing his buttons hoping to gain a negative reaction. Kudos for the kid for fishing out a bad guy, but I'm not gonna send him flowers becuse of how the officer treated him.

I dont feel sorry for the police officer, but I also dont feel sorry for the kid either.

I bet the cops gonna get away with it. I always see videos of cops abusing their power and they end up walking. **** the police, they get away with **** i'd never get away with.

Uh, yes.

He didn't even need to power-trip and check out the car. If he suspected suspicious activity, all he needed to do was observe, or even position his car in a way that his dash camera had the "suspicious vehicle" in sight.

I mean:
  • Why would somene planning on doing something illegal/criminal pull in and sit in a parking lot so obviously manned by an officer?
  • Not only that, but he pulled in, in PLAIN VIEW of the officer in question, so he obviously wasn't trying to hide.
  • After Puffy-Chest decided to do the dick thing, instead of the smart thing in harrassing the vehicle that pulled in, he was asked by the civilian what the civilian had done wrong. Barring an actual answer, he decided to take it to the next level, when we all know there are MANY other ways that question could have been handled without resulting in a tyrannical tirade and threats to frame the civilian.
Yes, he meant to be a dick from the start, regardless of the kid's intentions.

Let's put it this way: Do we blame Chris Hansen for pedophiles wanting to chat and meet with his decoys?

Nope. Those guys were pedophiles before they got baited, and that cop was a dick before the kid "got" to him.

Yes I already stated that he was baiting the shark. I also said that I'm not trying to stick up for the officer, but the kid is making himself out to be a victim when he played with fire (and knowingly doing so).

Well, for one, him "baiting" the cop is simply speculation at this point.

Either way, he was, and is, a victim.

A cop on a mugging sting that loses backup and ends up being truly mugged will be listed as a mugging "victim" in the police reports.

The cop cannot claim entrapment, as he was the one that got puffy-chested and decided to "step in" where he wasn't needed.

Yea your right cops should never ask people questions in an area that has a high crime rate and is under investigation.

...this kid has had previous run-ins with the police, he coincidentally had a camera in his car, he goes to a parking lot where crimes are currently being commited and a police car is right next to it, and he refuses to answer simple questions to the officer (when the officer was actually being nice at first) while being a smart ass about it.

Officer: "Hello, this is a parking lot where automobile crimes are currently being investigated. What your business here tonight?"

Kid: "What?! I cant park here?! Its a public parking lot! You dont need to know why I'm here."

That doesnt excuse what the officer did afterwards, but I see this all the time on youtube with skateboarders and security. They bring camcorders and do stuff that they know the officer will have to talk to them about and act like they did nothing wrong when they know they're pushing buttons.

The cop's request for identification had no basis. He had no probable cause, parking in a commuter lot is not suspicious activity. Furthermore, I would recommend that everybody have a camera in their car, because if you don't and you do end up in court, it is your word against an officer's. The kid was totally being a jackass, but I'd bet dollars against donuts that the cop would have reacted the same way if he had respectfully declined the request for identification and asked for legal counsel.

Yea your right cops should never ask people questions in an area that has a high crime rate and is under investigation.

Your logic is flawed.

Need I remind you?

  • Why would someone planning on doing something illegal/criminal pull in and sit in a parking lot so obviously manned by an officer?
  • Not only that, but he pulled in, in PLAIN VIEW of the officer in question, so he obviously wasn't trying to hide.

Now, if the kid decided to turn around after seeing the officer, that's one thing. But that didn't happen.

Dude. Even this cop's own [crooked] Chief didn't bother defending the cop. Are you an officer? Are you afraid of getting baited? If so, one would wonder why...

I think you just answered your own question within the list of questions.

Why would he bring a camcorder with him to an empty parking lot being patrolled by police in plain view of the police officer?

Pretty obvious, the kid was looking for trouble and he got it. I applaud the kid for baiting a bad cop, but he'll get no sympathy from me when thats exactly what he was looking for.

Your forgetting the little things....like CITY PROPERTY.

I doubt this kid wants your pity. He certainly doesn't need it, he's walking away from the court room scott free, the cop is the one who is under investigation.
