Cop Gone Wild

it doesn't matter that it's a relative few who behave this way, what matters is the amount of instances like this that get exposure. if a great deal of people are already fearful and leery of the authority that the police wield, when stuff like this happens it's just re-enforcing those concerns and fueling more anti-police attitudes. cops are like any other public servants, they should always maintain a level of professionalism when they're performing their duties. if a guy is going to fly off the handle because he thinks someone is being a smartass then he probably shouldn't be dealing with the public. that's how a lot people see cops, as corrupt authoritarians who act as though they're above the law. it doesn't matter that it may be only a small amount of cops who act that way. until there are no more instances like this one, cops are always going to be seen this way by a large chunk of the population.

I think that's unrealistic. Yes, they are supposed to maintain a level of proffessionalism above and beyond what most people should, but they are human. They will have bad days, make mistakes, and bad decisions...or simply be a bad person. That will NEVER go away. It doesn't help that these types of instances are usually the only situations that are headline news items. How often do you hear about something good that a cop does on the news or in the media? How often do you hear about them saving someone's life. Very rarely...and we all know it happens. It just doesn't get the media coverage. Not saying that this cop was right or justified in any way, but if the only opinion people have of a group of people is what they see on the evening news....well, that's a problem.

of course it's unrealistic. and yeah, i'm sure a lot of it is unjustified, but the fact remains that the law enforcement community has brought this on themselves. if they didn't abuse their authority like this then there wouldn't be as much of a negative view of them by the public. i think it's because too many cops become cops just for the power that comes with it. not all, but many.

Then why are you insisting on making the kid in question as bad as you can possibly portray him?

Did some teens piss you off on your beat/patrol? Can't take it anymore? Maybe you need to break away?

I know I did. I went back to college.

ARE you an LEO? Or are you a rent-a-cop who's been harrassed by teens one-too-many times?

Calm down, don't make it personal.

I cant agree,as much as I would like to.
Yes I can buy into the god complex senario,or the absolute power corrupts theory. And I get "on" Cops as much as the next guy.(note: my original post on this)
But I always try to remember that they have a job where theyre constantly in fear for their lives.I couldnt do it-You never know what the hell is going to happen when you pull someone over.I think that has more to do with what turns an individual into a "d!#k".

Theres another video similar I was trying to find-but this one will have to do

I think you need to take a breather from this discussion before you pop a blood vessel.

LMAO

I was trying to bait YOU into explaining yourself further, which I guess you still aren't. I just can't figure out why you are so adamant about badmouthing the kid.

If you cant see that the kid went there looking for trouble then you have no justification for your debate. I agree that the police officer was a dick and should have never done/said those things, and hes getting his punishment. But I also agree that the kid just didnt turn on his night-vision camcorder out of the blue before turning into a vacant parking lot being patrolled by a police officer blaring his music to garner his attention, then not complying to the questions being asked...just to pick up his friend that was never there and didnt seem to materialize even after the incident occured.

I can kinda see where you are coming from. I can understand YOUR bewilderment with the situation. I am familiar with the automotive sub-culture [check my username], and having an in-car camera is almost becoming a common thing. It's used to record encounters with other cars (usually of the illegal, street racing kind, although it also used extensively for track runs) AND encounters with the Police.

Having an in-car camera is nothing unusual for me anymore. This is where the discrepancy in our perspectives likely change.

You see the kid as having a camera as him hunting for police to entrap, which skews your view way to the other side. I see it as a normal, everyday thing, and that the kid simply turned the camera on (usually by remote), upon seeing that the lot he was entering was occupied by an officer.

Considering this kid's previous run ins with the police in his area, can you really blame him?

I watch automotive related vids all the time, and trust me, in-car cameras are a normal thing. This isn't the first vid of this kind I have seen either. I saw one of a Dodge Charger getting pulled over for doing 140 in a 55, and he gets away with a warning. It was good topic online for a while, as everyone dubbed this particular person "a lucky bastard".

And its none of your business what I do for a living, obviously your the kind of person that cant stand it when somebody doesnt agree with them then resort to personal attacks.

Well. I have talked to a few current officers about this vid - and trust me, most of them know about in-car vids - and none of them have been as adamant as you are about demonizing the kid. All I could think of is the stereotypical gung-ho fella who wants to be an officer so badly, yet hasn't had the guts or the ability to become one yet. In the meantime, he's an officer in his own mind, working security jobs with a zeal that would rival any SWAT Team member.

If the shoe doesn't fit, then it isn't yours to wear.

Like I said, I was trying to goad you into a revealing a bit more of yourself, until I had the revelation that you likely aren't familiar with how common in car cameras are nowadays among auto enthusiasts, and would see this kid as simply the instigating, suit-happy type. Truth is, he well might be, but I don't blame him one bit, as that town's department needs to purged top-to-bottom.

Listen to his voice crack as he is yelling. Hysterical.

It's probably the same dude only this time he's driving lol

Eh nothing new, cops using their "power" to be jerks. We've all been pulled over for BS at some point.

*alert may be bored from this true life story lol*

Hell I got pulled over for not making a full stop at a stop sign (wheels were literally just rolling so I could see out at angle of street). When the officer pulled me over I said yeah instead of rolling my wheels I guess it would have been safer to just totally stop. The cop then said "I will tell you what you are in trouble for. I don't need you to tell me how to do my job." and I explained I was just showing admission for fault to be cooperative. He then said something like "I don't have to worry about you being cooperative, I can make anyone cooperative." I think I did sarcasticly say "ooookkky" and then he said I was talking back from that one word "ok" and called a tow truck, put me in handcuffs, put me in the baskseat of the police car... Then the tow place was like 2 minutes away and my car was towed! He then said if you be quiet I might not take you to jail. Another police officer came over, they talked, and I was let out of the car. So I had to hitch a ride for a 2 minute drive (they didn't offer)When I went to get my car out I had to pay $175 :down Not to mention I was given the failure to yield ticket and also disorderly conduct. Fines totalling $350 or so. So I went to court, explained to the judge what happened, he reviewed situation and charges were dropped. Lowered my fine and I payed like $40 for the stop sign failure to yield

The video from Mike D is the best of all.

Can't stop laughing.
