Corona and other diseases

"I'm potentially sick with a highly contagious, newly discovered virus. I know, I'll go to a crowded enclosed location and do some shopping!"

People go to work with the flu. This is basically the same thing. People don’t care about infecting others.

51 cases in the U.K. now.

With some countries restricting travel and tourism, mainland parts of the world are becoming like islands. Border mania

I'm in NYC.... I can already see where this is going.
Fingers crossed. But yea, I'm ready for the work from home scenario.

They planned it out.

There's something out there waiting for us, and it ain't no common cold. We're all gonna die.

It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear!

Well, part of that I think is bc our culture doesn’t encourage time off so people feel obligated to show up whether sick or not.

Chris Rock said it best, at some point people are just gonna have massive diseases but just have enough to keep living.

"Yeah, I can't make it in today man, my AIDS is acting up."

Globally in total, there's like a close to a million cases so far right? How many deaths have there been in total?

Just over 3,000. Vast majority in China, though Italy is up to 79 now, the most outside of China.

It's worth noting 23% of the Italian population is over 65, giving it the largest elderly population in the world after Japan. Everyone in Italy who has died of coronavirus has been between 63 and 95, most with underlying health problems.

It's actually seemingly subsiding somewhat in China, where thousands of recovered patients are returning home and the rate of new infections has hit a six week low.

It's surging in other places though, worst in Iran, South Korea, and Italy last I saw.

First case confirmed in North Carolina.

Nine dead now in Washington state, still all from the same nursing home (unsurprisingly).

Google has cancelled its annual conference due to coronavirus.

Yeah, I know it's not good to get paranoid but people will freak out the more they hear about it spreading and people suddenly dying even if they are ancient.

Not nearly a million (confirmed) cases. 92,835 cases and 3,168 deaths at last count.

We got our first confirmed case in Argentina.

That's a lot of deaths. I thought it was much less

South Korea has 5,000 cases, the most outside of China, followed by Iran with 2,336.

Italy has the most deaths outside China so far though, probably mostly because it has such a large elderly population.

Germany is up to 196 cases at last count, so far mainly in the east and 65 in one district.

How is it spreading so much? Is it that easily contagious by contact?

Apparently, while its death rate is lower than something like SARS it's significantly more contagious and spreads easily.

In Germany, for example, the hardest hit district apparently started with an infected couple attending carnival celebrations.

Well sh*t. My sister is about to move to germany for the 2nd time as her husband is in the military and being stationed there.

My mother is considering cancelling her cruise trip in the summer
