Corona and other diseases

I anticipate that lots of jobs will be done from home in the future instead of having people come into work. It's more cost effective that way and saves on rent space expenses. Plus it's also less stressful if you don't have to commute. Most meetings can be done via Zoom.

And maybe job interviews as well, so that you don't have to travel all the way in to that place, especially if you don't even end up working there.

It's not an idea or strategy. It is not a goal of government or what they base their policy on.

It is just the final outcome. The virus is here to stay. People will not be able to live their lives normally until they have immunity from it. That means either being vaccinated or you have already had it.

All governments strategies at the moment are to slow the spread. But the problem with that is flu season in winter and the higher risks of strokes etc... so many countries want the peak of the virus to be in the summer. Where health services can better handle it.

Governments are not trying to get everyone infected!
You know that i was not talking about being vaccined

Boris Johnson seemingly advocated publically, about herd immunity. At, the very least that was confusing. And the fact is they didnt do what was needed at the time. To be fair, France governement, was acting as confusingly. No they didn't straight ahead said get infected, of course. Who could said that? The fact is they sent contradictory messages to people ( as Trump did too) that was irresponsible. But what has been done, has been done.

Anyways, we're not even sure that people that did get it are immune for the moment...

Something to worry about. Korean health services reported this week that they have seen cases where the coronavirus may have reactivated in patients who have been cured."

Well germans are talking about herd immunity too. Immunity much higher than thought, says German study

If we don't get immunity from having it then a vaccine wont give us any. So what then? Stay on lockdown forever?

Well that's like asking "if making any noise gets us killed, what are we supposed to do? Remain quiet forever?"

I've been working from home for over 3 weeks without little or no effect on my productivity. I've been told we're going to continue this until mid-June at the earliest. The only time any of the engineers in my group are required to be onsite is when we have a hardware failure or need to bring a new location online. Frankly, it's more efficient. Travel time, space considerations for the place I work, parking (very expensive in downtown LA), less sick days (While I don't have access to the statistics, it's pretty clear used of sick leave has dropped), and, most importantly, fewer executive drive bys that waste our time. :o (Less water usage due to decreased showers and fewer razor blades LOL).

Even before this, we were told we could make liberal use of work from home days as long as it didn't impact our operations. So, I'm going to be surprised if we ever go back to the way it was before or, if we do, it will be a long way down the road. Some of us have at risk people at home and will be very resistant to being onsite on a regular basis if it means putting others in our family at risk.

We use our own version of Skype over VPN. While the organization is quite large, I was part of the team that upgraded the bandwidth of our core network in order to carry the increased traffic. We've run into some minor issues, but it's been a surprisingly smooth transition. The added expense of the latter has to have been dramatically offset by the savings.

When you have teachers like this, who needs murderers?

Don't these public officials realize that there are people out there who look to them for information?

God help them. The stupidity of some people baffles me.

What happened to his neck? It looks like one of these Chinese steamed buns:

I'll find something similar that's shaped differently.

I'm sure they must be able to make it differently without all those Trump neck wrinkles in it. If someone shows them that picture, they'll quickly come up with a new innovation in a time of crisis.

In Japan, they show their gratitude to each other by bowing not handshakes. Perhaps the West can take a few cues from our Japanese brethrens, and just bow as one of the alternatives to giving out handshakes from now on. :funny:

They have heated light up multi-function toilets that jet washes and blow drys your ass :wow:. We are over here fighting over toilet paper. We must seem like barbarians to them :funny:

You can also choose how much air you want and what music to play when you're flushing! :D Their toilet paper are also flushable and are encouraged to be flushed.
