Corona and other diseases

I feel like some of them are just doing it to troll at this point.

Also to retcon history and events. That's what Trump has always been doing. People watching Fox will now genuinely believe that there were 18 other COVIDs before this one and that's the history that Trump's administration will be promoting.

As to why were weren't in lockdown and self-isolation for 18 years of this century....

Dude, where have you been? We've been self-isolating since 2001.

You probably don't even know the Bowling Green Massacre happened either.

If, according to Kellyanne Conway, COVID-19 is the 19th go round, then why was 9/11 such a surprise since there were 8 previous versions before that? :o

I think the sad reality most of us are aware of is that normal life as we know it ended 2 months ago.

There is no going back. Moving forward nothing will really be the same, this just opened the door to a plethora of scenarios, circumstances and variables. The likes we have only read about and seen in movies, I think.

I'm greatly concerned the ramifications all this can and most certainly will have on society as we transiting and pivot into this dystopian "new norm", as they are dubbing it. Keep your eyes open.

I really don’t think we’re going to have big sports events or new movies filming for a while. There’s no way to do so with social distancing in effect.

Sports events can be behind closed doors. Tv rights are worth more than gate receipts.

Wish the video would have caught her reaction to Fauci's last response lol

All those party events that people are so used to doing are pretty much over for a while. Family reunions, etc.

I used to be an electronic engineer back in the early 1980s. I designed and built infra-red detector prototypes and evaluated them for production. Early on, we realized that these devices could be used for much more than burglar alarms for banks (which was their primary function back then). The engineering group originally thought using these switches (They're really just smart switches after all) as an aid to people with physical disabilities, but the marketing guys said "No. No. No. We need to promote them as health enhancements as that'll appeal to more people and we'll sell more of them." Maybe they were on to something.....for the wrong reasons of course.

In any case, toilets flushers, soap dispensers, water faucets, and paper towels should all be fitted with these devices. There should also be a trash bin outside or just inside the door so people can use a paper towel to open the door and dispose of it easily. Ironically, the only devices back then that generally worked automatically were doors. Rarely do bathroom doors open automatically, but that may be coming. Bathrooms can also be designed to not need doors (like at airports). We may see a lot more doors open automatically. All they need is a trigger. That can be a security badge or an infra-red detector.

These are interesting ideas. I think governments all around the world should consider these things, as they could be used as mitigating factors when society is "opened up" again. There's no way entire branches of business can stay closed for over a year, so I think a return to normal life should be coupled with stricter hygienic norms, in private and in public. We should also pressure China, Thailand and a number of other countries to install (or improve) public health regulations. Those wet markets in their current form need to go, for example.

I was talking to a friend of mine who was visiting from Sweden prior to California shutting down movie theaters, restaurants, etc. (we were at the local El Torito for happy hour). I told him I thought that we needed to take a global approach to fighting the Corona virus (and other disease) threat and needed far better coordination. One of the many things I despise about Trump is that he's takes a transactional view of governing. Yes, I realize he's a (relatively incompetent) businessman who has remained relevant only because of self promotion, but he's so limited in the way he sees the world. He looks at it only through the lens of transactions. This country or that country isn't paying their fair share. What if we looked at things in terms of who gets the benefit of certain organizations (UN for example)?

If we don't establish and maintain a first rate international organization dedicated to public health, we could be in more trouble down the road. Hopefully we've learned from this disaster and don't turn away from this path because someone thinks some country doesn't pay their fair share. I'm not saying everyone doesn't need to chip in, but is this really the primary concern or is the health of the public?

Cutting funds to the WHO isn't the answer right now. What you CAN do is use the leverage you have as a major contributor to hold their feet to the fire; not essentially fire them in the midst of this pandemic, but this is how narrow minded and set in his ways this guy is. Because you can run a business (albeit poorly), does not mean you can govern effectively.

Masks have become mandatory in NY now.

**Edit**

Seems you must wear a mask if you cannot be at least 6' from someone in public. The Governor's social media platforms made it seem like it was 100% mandatory at all times in public.

Though I feel it should be.

So the grocery store i work at has done one really stupid thing and annoying thing the last like 4 days or so that makes zero sense and really just makes things worse. So they only have the door unlocked on 1 side. Its really annoying because it makes it so its even harder to keep up on karts because with only having 1 side open like eve one is getting there kart from just the one side so karts are going much faster has a result. Its already hard because of how understaffed and badly run the place has been for years but this just makes it worse. Also it just makes no sense because we are not limiting people from coming in. So the only thing it does is make the people get closer to each other. Why would you do something that just gets people more close to each other more often when the whole idea is supposed to be to get less people around each other and more space between each other. But ok lets do something that does the opposite lol.

I'm thinking Massachusetts will soon follow these steps. I shudder at the thought of wearing a mask all day st work, but I don't see how we can't. We are too close together not too. I'm going to sweat to death. :(

I only wear reading glasses, so I never wore a mask with glasses. The other day, I drove to get tested and wore my sunglasses with a mask on because you have to have one to get tested. @Schlosser85 is right. The masks make your glasses fog up. It's rather annoying; especially when you're driving. Someone will make a fortune producing "no fog masks". Maybe that creepy dog mask is one. LOL.

Man, I wish I could have gotten one of those NJ tests. Having the bottom of your eyeball rubbed by a swab someone stuck up your nose rather sucks.

It's bad enough wearing one just to go out shopping. It's not like you can wear these things for long periods.

I don't know how all these superheroes can go round with masks all day. Well, I can understand the likes of Cap US or Batman who have their nose and mouth exposed, but people like Spider-Man or Black Panther have a full mask. Having a secret ID in real life would not be all that practical with that kind of mask.

they have Stark and Wakandan technology. I'm sure they've worked through those details. :o
