Corona and other diseases

California wasn't too bad I believe earlier on, especially given how large the population is. It's a shame that it's beginning to take hold post-lockdown in areas that weren't all that badly off.

This is not a surprise to me. I don't leave the house, but my brother (who always wears a mask) does. He keeps his distance because so few wear masks. Workers do thankfully, but not the public. We now have a mandate to do so, doesn't matter.

I'm in Michigan. When this first hit it was spreading like bubonic plague. We were probably around the 3rd in the nation in cases. Around the end of March we were put in lockdown. People here seem to be taking this virus more seriously now. About 85% of people are wearing masks in public. We're one of the few states in decline. Florida, Texas, Arizona and now it seems like California are gonna have to learn the hard way.

Good to hear.

Unfortunately, it's not all that surprising given it's now been more than two weeks since this massive gathering in Los Angeles. As much as I support the BLM protests, they're a perfect breeding ground for the virus.

Evidence actually suggests otherwise. Being outdoors and wearing a mask helps greatly to reduce the danger. Given California's size, it is easy to believe that other places were just waiting to explode.

I'm not a fan of how our numbers seem to be stabilizing, rather than continuing to go down. And I fear Whitmer will be unable to contain the situation if it goes into a second wave.

The obsession with opening up is making things worse. So much of the issue seems to be that people are taking it as, "we are opening back up, things are now normal". No, that isn't how it works.

I get why Newsome is worried about staying in even semi-lockdown. But he needs to consider that the public is just too dumb to be trusted to just follow the rules on their own.

Listen to Lenny (and play it on all the city loudspeakers):

Seen a lot of people act like there is nothing going on now. I still wear a mask and keep my distance where possible.
Pretty much the same. When I had my cancer scare a year ago, I have been more cautious with health related things.

So... He wasn't joking or he was?

And... Why is he using the Covid-19 pandemic that has killed over 100,000 Americans as the jumping off point for a joke? If he wasn't joking... For real, why is the president injecting himself into whether the various government entities should speed up or slow down something based on how well it reflects on him? Especially in a public health crisis?

So... Which is it? And why after EVERY time he opens his mouth does the majority of the country require a translation for us to understand "what he really meant to say is..."?

And why is any if that necessary or helpful in the middle of a countrywide reaction to an infectious disease?

The fact that this translation or second guessing is always needed shows he is not a good enough communicator to be president. This is also not the time for jokes or sarcasm during public briefings on a pandemic.

Invest — Knightscope

They want to have people invest in these robots so they can do tasks during the pandemic.

But wasn't there movie about these things murdering people in a mall?
This is how they sneak in Skynet. By making you fear the Walking Dead.

Also yes there was. The greatest film of all time. Chopping Mall:

A lot of measures are going to be relaxed here in the Netherlands. The numbers keep going down every day, hopefully opening up the borders doesn't change that. We haven't had any COVID deaths since earlier in June.

Meanwhile it sucks to read that North and South America are still in deep ****.

I hope it goes well man.

Except Canada. They're doing pretty good.
