Corona and other diseases

Rolling, regional lockdowns is gonna be a world wide reality for a while without a viable vaccine or more or less bullet proof treatment available to the masses.

This despite many countries that did take the correct actions. But this is a global society whether one likes it, accepts it, approves of it... Your feelings don't matter it is the reality. In that setting the places like the U.S. that have botched their response are clear vectors to spike numbers up elsewhere.

Internally in the states we'll see the same in America.

This is why a robust initial response, coordinated with the entire world was necessary at the start, along with the need for the existence of various programs and cooperative policies with other countries, even those we are rivals with, to help track and contain outbreaks where they originate.

This was all trashed due to the current administrations feckless approach to almost anything it has authority over combined with the reflexive and unthinking obsession of the Conservative/Libertarian wing of the party to "Cut government down until it can be drowned in a child's bathtub".

You reap what you sow. People of a certain and particular political stripe have done their best to reap the wind for decades... And now the world is reaping the whirlwind.

Really not thrilled with how my state's numbers are beginning to tick back up.

Really not thrilled with how my state's numbers are beginning to tick back up.

Without the tightest of coordination where we are now was always where we were gonna be sadly.

People say stuff like "Not every state/community should have the same policy on coronavirus".

That certainly feels right... But has gaping blindspots. For one it doesn't account for the ease of travel in the U.S. and how with a disease the difference in local jurisdiction is meaningless. If state A. has a border with state B. and state A. has a lax policy that is allowing for greater rates of infection and therefor deaths, well it won't matter much in the long run if state B. is doing all the right things.

I don't think the math is with us with 2 million CONFIRMED cases.

We are fated to have to dig in and deal with this for a long duration barring a medical breakthrough that is proven and reliable.

I mean, wait until summer kicks into high. People all over are gonna travel, good idea or not. The transmission train is just loading up.

That’s scarily high for positive tests. And Trump wants to clamp down on testing.

Terrifying thread.

This something I think about a lot.

I walk through NYC and every street vendor and corner store currently is hawking some form of protection: Madks, gloves, visors, goggles.

Ok... I'm sure some are legit products. The bodega around my job is run by Koreans and at the early start of lockdown they were stocked up on masks etc. that was obviously from S. Korea and of a certain quality and packaging that didn't make me look twice. In fact, that is where I still buy my disposable masks.

But I don't know... Frontline workers are still begging for PPE... But I am to believe this jabroni on the street corner selling masks by the bushel out of the back of his car has a legit supply? Or when I see the streets filled with masks made for aesthetic purposes with flags and logos and designs I can't again think those are quickie products whose effectiveness or safety probably have never been tested.

If we get a strong revival of the virus in Oct and Nov the economy is going to be KO’d. The only way is for people to follow all the recommendations and then even with a revival it won’t spread too fast.

It makes one wonder how civilization managed to go on for so long before the advent of modern barber shops?

I mean... Really?
