Corona and other diseases

Fair enough. I guess I am a bit defensive given the tension around these topics in this moment. I've had a few Democrats call me a Trump supporter because I don't support abolishing Police or allowing CHAZ to occupy a City. (Had they bothered to read my timeline they'd see I constantly call out Trump for his corruption and incompetence). Crazy times man, I hope we can find a way back to some kind of normalcy soon.
Defunding police departments shouldn't mean abolishing them. We're simply wanting those departments enabling police brutality whether racially motivated or not to be held accountable and if it takes taking funding away from them to get their act together than so be it.

So my brother-in-law's family got COVID-19 from a river rafting party near Austin. :whatever:

This whole pandemic has taught me most Americans seemingly can't sacrifice a little personal freedom just to endure a crisis. When you can't get a haircut when you want, or go to McDonald's or a bar, we go crazy. We can't take a hit or two NOW, to insure we win later.

We as Americans better start hoping that a Carrington Class Solar Storm doesn't hit the planet and ruin modern electronics at once. Because when most Americans can't use their phones or watch Netflix, or use electronic banking, it's going to make us go crazy over night.

I'm all for reduced funding. I support the Police but we've seen over the last 4 weeks that they are definitely in major need of Police reform and likely reduced funding. Some of these guys are simply out of control.

I feel bad for good Police officers right now. They're in a tough situation. Afraid to speak up because of Police Unions and losing their job. Surrounded by guys that are out of control, but you're looked down upon for speaking up against it. And the whole Country is blaming them all with a blanket brush in alot of cases so it must be frustrating to know you're one of the good ones, but people don't trust you regardless. It's a crappy situation all around.

The real problem is the system is protecting the "bad apples" from staying fired. It hurts people's trust in the Police when these officers who brutilized someone get fired and then a crooked Union leader pulls some strings to get their job back or they find a new job at another department.

Yeah, completely agree. There needs to be major Police reforms. Harsher punishment for cops found to be perpetrators of Police brutality, proper termination and in these horrible cases charges brought against them and for lack of a better term, "Blacklisting" cops who have several accusations of Police brutality of just finding another job in another town. Among other things, like banning choke holds, no-knock warrents, and reduced funding along with better training. Alot of work to do.

New York's rise and fall gave the illusion that it was going good for a time. But when you break it down by region it tells another story.

Pence claims Americans are seeing "encouraging news" as cases surge

"Vice President Mike Pence asserted Friday that “all 50 states and territories across this country are opening up safely and responsibly” even as cases surge in many states, and eight states across the country have paused their reopening efforts."

According to Trump and Pence all is fine of course.

Yeah. I strongly opposed having the police unions join our national union.

Makes sense as NY was the biggest territory for cases and deaths by far early on and its decline cancelled out the gradual rises everywhere else, but that could only ever last so long.

Its also an issue of the tendency of the cable news to be NY focused.

Florida had 9k new cases the other day, which is insane. That is nearly a 6th of the total cases of my state. Which is also getting hit with an increase, but not nearly that much.

We just added another 6,000 yesterday AND today.

This is very reasonable....But allow me to ask this key question which I hope everyone sees puts a wrinkle in the narrative that I feel is incredibly important.

When the Minneapolis PD started this by going HAM on the protesters weeks back... In the following time did we hear about any LEOs that took part quitting?

When those SWAT/ERT *******s marched into that suburban neighborhood told people who were already in their homes and obeying curfew to "stay inside" and then opened fire on those homes with riot weapons... Did we hear any of those LEOs quit?

When those officers arrested that African American CNN reporter and his crew who were following their orders yet leave a White reporter literally standing next to him, and this gets captured on camera... Did any cops from that PD quit?

When the president decided he needed a half assed photo op so he unleashed a horde of then faceless, nameless prison riot police upon protesters, using tear gas and batons to attack American citizens... Not one came out later to rebuke said actions and then quit.

In all the time that has passed since this began where is the story from any state, city or local municipality where a law enforcement officer says to the public "I was asked to participate in violent and corrupt actions perpetrated against American citizens for the sole purpose of thuggish intimidation. I refused."

I know that the Blue Wall is strong. I know it is difficult for cops who hold other cops and themselves to a higher standard. I know that a LEO saying such things may even be putting their life at risk saying and doing something like that.

All true.

Still... In this country of 330 million people, in all this time we have not heard the tale of the police officer who refused to beat down Americans and then rebuke that they were asked to do so.

Not once.

Across literally every single department.

Not once.

Ohio has been averaging 500 daily cases or less for months.....829 yesterday and 987 today.
