Corona and other diseases

American leadership for it's ups and downs has been a major stabilizing force for human civilization for a century and a half at least. People can dislike the American military all they want, and often with good reasons given how we have used our might in that area in the past all over the world. Still, the facts are that it is because of the U.S. Navy that the high seas are safe for shipping and that air travel is safe is als due to the U.S. ditto the safety of most communication satellites.

I can't help but feel that if we had an engaged and robust response to this pandemic by the U.S. government that not only would we be better off at home but that via coordination with allied nations the whole of the planet would be better off.

I still haven't seen my mother or grandmother since before Christmas. Both are immunosuppressed from cancer treatments.

The case numbers are getting way beyond what I thought they’d get to, and Winter hasn't even properly hit yet.

It's going to be weird having a Secretary of Education the understand, you know, education.

Oh, DeVos knows education. Its why she has been attempting to destroy it in MI for a decade. Education is not for the commoners.

She's as uneducated as they come, so apparently it's not for her either. The woman has nothing between her ears if you've ever heard her attempt to speak about anything.

I also forgot, that education is prime for making a profit.

You guys like to make fun of this saying but really... Let that sink in.

In all seriousness... Stuff like this used to make me incredibly frightened and anxious as a kid. Stuff like The Stand was a nighmare to me when I was younger.

I can't believe I and the rest of the world have been living through this for almost a full year now.

Immunity to Covid-19 wanes, British study finds - CNN

Edit: pretty much same story as above. We need to find an end to this thing somehow. Hope it’s not going to be around for good.

As much as things now can get you down and doubt humanity, and lord knows... with good reason, we've survived as a species through even worse plagues and thanks to the gifts of civilization done amazing things like eradicate for intents and purposes the scourges of polio and smallpox.

If this thing does indeed become endemic it's just going to be too disruptive, too random, for most places to operate at 100%. We will find a way out of this because we have to.

Step number one around the world though is for people to look at whether or not their current leadership is worthy of having power given how they've dealt with this situation.

Well, this has been covered. So I won't be posting what I found as it basically corroborates those above.
Not sure exactly what it means going forward, but it doesn't sound particularly promising.
