If people could get their **** together, actually quarantine and keep seperated in conjunction with a vaccine, it could be wiped out or at the very least localised to specific locations.

We know how well any of that is going to work out though. People are more concerned about their "freedom" and the economy than other people's lives or the future of society going forward because it will not go away if people don't follow the rules. If everyone was doing the right thing, we would have been at the point of control, not just wandering around waiting for another wave, or in the case of the U.S. the first wave to swell because we still have yet to stop the first wave.
