Corona and other diseases

Ambulances in LA have been told to stop taking people who are unlikely to survive. They’ve hit the point of rationing healthcare.

To all of you people who say that COVID numbers are inflated. People are now dying from non-COVID diseases because the system is becoming overwhelmed. My mother has COPD and while we've been very careful and she has avoided COVID, those people who disregard the safety of others have not only put others at risk of catching COVID, they have also done a remarkable job of putting others with pre-existing conditions at risk by causing our health care system to severely taxed. Congratulations. I hope your freedom to be a jackass was worth it.

Enforcement is the key word here. The Police need more 'beef' in being backed to fine / imprison for short term, people who clearly flaunt rules, but Government are on sticky wicket when their own do not follow rules and wave it in front of public and NHS / Retail / Front Line workers who are giving their all to the cause only to be dismissed.
There's no sense to be throwing people into prison, they'll only impact the prison system and put a strain on the staff there.

It should be all about the fines, and they should be hefty; hefty enough that not only will word get around that if you're going to risk people's lives you're going to (literally) pay the price for it, and secondly, if enough of these people are fined, all that collected money can be put back into the economy, save our taxes going up too much in the years to one.

If government officials break the rules, slap them with a hefty fine too, but one that's comparable to their income. Naturally they'll lose their jobs too.

If people host raves in the park or at warehouses, allow the police to go in with water cannons and rubber bullets.

Yes, it's barbaric, but sometimes you've gotta treat people the way they need to be treated before that message they're missing sinks in.

Can we still go to the post office during this lockdown? That's considered essential is it?

Or what about a hardware store to get supplies for something in your house that breaks down/ needs repairing?
I guess it depends on what is defined as essential. Stores like B&Q, Homebase, Halfords etc are all open, but it's not essential to build or paint a shed, however it might be to fix a boiler or something? It's hard to police.

It's like all of these cafes, pubs and restaurants being able to offer a takeout menu. Why? I'm sorry, but being able to grab a takeout coffee or pizza isn't essential. If people are unable to cook then I'd suggest they either stick to microwave meals for a while, or toasties. That or just eat more salad.

It’s time to be more barbaric.

Fine the **** out of them.

Use rubber bullets and water cannons on illegal raves that fight back when the police try to disperse them, like just happened in France.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and it's the only way some people are going to learn.

I'm sick of lockdown after lockdown after restriction after restriction after tier change after tier change. It's all because we've got a percentage of society that think they can do what they want and do so, knowing full well that they're free of severe consequence.

It's time to up the game.

I want to build a shed and create extensions to my house at this time! :argh:

No, I just want to be sure that if something breaks down I can at least fix it myself without needing to call anyone, especially if it's something that is major enough to affect me but still too minor for any kind of repair man to come, which I wouldn't want anyone in my house anyway.

Bolded - that's the outlook / nature of a huge amount of the populous sadly these days. Zero personal responsibility for anything, it's always someone elses' job or fault, combined with an inability to comprehend none of us can have everything we want, all the time.

I keep hearing on the news about how the current or next stage of restrictions will be worse than what they were in March/April in the UK.. no they won't, there already are heavily shutdowns throughout the UK/Ireland & purely from a traffic on the road standpoint it isn't worse. It was like an apocalyptic film during the 1st national lockdown on the streets, there was almost no traffic on the roads at all.

In the 1st lockdown a lot of employers just said stay away & put their employees on furlough, but now it seems a lot of places feel whatever measures they have in place are sufficient to welcome their workers in everyday.

I'm talking more so people that work in areas that aren't in retail or hospitality, like in factories or manufacturing which while aren't essential, they can I suppose continue to operate if the appropriate measures are in place.

My favourite are the people that whine about how can we be in another lockdown or how can we need more measures as if they themselves have adhered to the current setup.

Meanwhile they're walking about with their mask covering their mouth, but not their nose, entering others 'personal space' unnecessarily ie for a chat.. not to mention over Christmas either going themselves or having family/friends round for drinks against regulation/rules in most places.

The reason the country needs more restrictions is -

a) This new variant is easier spread

b) People aren't listening & adhering to the current restrictions to the best of their ability that are in place anyway

Marcellus gets medieval.

I was talking to a relative of mine that is a movie producer and he told me to forget about comic cons this year. The actors won't even think about going until this blows over.

Which makes me really sad. Last year was going to be my first trip to SDCC and they carried over the badges to this year. I wonder what they're going to do.

That's awful. :( I mean, who makes that judgement call?

Basically the equivalent of "thoughts and prayers." Good show, but we won't be actually compensating you anything.

I wanted to post this as text, but I couldn't get the formatting to go how it was needed.
That being the case here is an image of quite recent data taken from Coronavirus Updates (COVID-19) Deaths & Cases per 1M Population | RealClearPolitics and I confirmed the numbers using worldometers.info which show Covid-19 cases, deaths etc. around the world. I grabbed the UK and USA numbers.

Shocking.PNG

What I found truly shocking is, that taking population into account, the UK actually has higher deaths and a way higher fatality rate.

There are only 7 countries which have worse deaths per 1 million than the UK:
Belgium - 1736
Slovenia - 1402
Bosnia and Herzegovina - 1267
Italy - 1263
North Macedonia - 1229
Peru - 1186
Czechia - 1170

I'm surprised Mexico isn't on that list. They aren't doing so great either. :(

It’s just plain pragmatic economics to vaccinate undocumented workers in meat plants.

You need the meat plants to keep running for food supply, don’t you?

I’m posting too much in here I think.. :cwink:

But I wanted to say/ask something related to the latest UK lockdown. And that’s this:
If this current national lockdown does not have the required effect, and from what I personally have seen many people are not taking this as seriously as they should.
I also strongly feel people are just not going to do what they need to do to bring the infection rates down. Maybe due to “Covid-19 fatigue”, or who knows what?
But I find myself worrying that the next step to take if this will one does not work, is that Boris will have no choice but to implement some form of martial law...

What are your thoughts on this?

Do you feel there would be a lot of blowback from the populace?
