I find it hilarious that you've got officials in government and folks high up that are concerning themselves with the opinion of Joe Rogan of all people. Yeah, he's got a sizable audience, but why even bother shining a light on the guy's opinion, whether they agree, disagree, or otherwise? They could just ignore him outright.

Not like you're gonna get legions of people suddenly subscribing to his view just because it's Joe Rogan. It'd be like a Twitter user with a million followers concerning themselves with some new account with no followers that called them a jerk or something. Like, why bother?

Nonsense or not, until that day comes, I find it pointless that you've got people like Fauci responding to, again, Joe Rogan of all people. He's not in government- he's a guy with an audience and he's gonna say what he thinks. Why people in government even concern themselves with podcasters is beyond me. I doubt anyone here knows someone that is or isn't going to get a vaccine because of what they heard Joe Rogan say. Directors of comic book movies don't directly respond to something Kevin Smith says, regardless of his sizable audience and knowledge of the industry.

There's no point. And even with Rogan retracting his statement- which he didn't need to do, really- it's already out there. You're gonna have vaccine hesitancy regardless of what Rogan says.

I agree the media makes dumb decisions on a consistent basis. They are looking for viewers, splashy headlines, etc. rather than serious reporting (not in all cases of course, but in many). All I'm saying is that if you are Dr. Fauci and someone says "Joe Rogan says....... What do you think?" I think explaining why he's wrong or making a sarcastic statement about him becoming a doctor is probably appropriate. You can't just ignore it. There might be a better thing to say than "I really don't think you should be taking your health care advice from Joe Rogan", but ya kinda gotta say something....

I think it is very important to attack such rhetoric and the ecosystem where it grows. Why we have stuff like QAnon and even Trump himself, is ignoring these "everyday" outlets that spread such information and allow it to fester. It is up to the rest of media and yes the government, to make sure people understand Rogan is full of ****, even if it means only one more person gets the vaccine. It's their job and they need to cut it off at the source as quickly as possible.

No there isn't.

It's not just a podcast either. It's THE podcast. He has an audience that dwarfs any of the network shows, be they comedy or news. That counts for something. He has a gigantic cultural footprint, and that matters.

Same reason I was told it was a good thing for candidates to go on his show during the primaries. He has a massive reach. And I am going to be frank, the majority of his viewership I would consider... easily convinced by stuff he says.

I had an appointment for an AstraZeneca shot (authorized for use in Canada). I can’t say I was totally at ease with the blood clot risk (though it’s very low). But I took the view that getting one of the nasty COVID variants would be much worse. However, the availability of Pfizer increased in my area. So I was able to switch.

But I took the view that getting one of the nasty COVID variants would be much worse. However, the availability of Pfizer increased in my area. So I was able to switch.
