What do you think of the costumes?

  • PERFECT!

  • They're good, they could have been alittle more faithful.

  • They work I guess.

  • I hate them.

So he looks like a lazy bat. Kind of like Golden Age Batman, with smaller horns.

When you make this comparison...what in god's name are you basing this on? When did "upright protrustions and no goggles" begin to resemble "sideways protrustions with goggles"?

I just wish they stuck with the comics on the cowl and did the slender crown piece that blends into the cape at the back. Instead they just stuck some pointy ears on him.

You act like none of these design elements are present in the comics. If you pay close attention, you will see that while they did away with his "hood", his headpiece has almost the exact same cut and span as the one from the comic books.

That's not very "owly" to me, but the comics representation really represented the design of an owl. Not to mention it looked unique, whereas this really does remind one quite a bit of Batman.

Go look up some pictures of owls. They don't all have that wide "hood" at the back of their head/neck. Nite Owl is clearly pretty much SUPPOSED to remind you of Batman in some fashion. There's a reason Nite Owl's costume borrowed so much from Batman's in the first place.

I think the reason the hood makes him more owly is that owls don't really have visible necks; with the hood his profile was more square and owl-like.

I still don't get why they dropped the round goggles for angular ones. Not only would his appearance be even closer to an owl, he simply looks BETTER with round goggles.

The less round goggles do seem to fit to the contours of the mask better, and just fit the design overall. Not that the rounder ones look bad. Hell, I'm surprised they kept the goggles. I always envisioned movie Nite Owl with like, built in lenses or something.

I think they did pretty damn good with the costumes. Night Owl and ozy are the only ones that i would say aren't perfect, but still remarkably close to the source material. Night Owl was always the closets to having an actual "super" suit seeing as how he's the great inventor and all, but Oz was never wearing that much over his skin, which kind of bothers me, since he was this great athlete and all, he was supposedly never in need of the armor because he could kick anyone's ass anyway.

that being said, I think now that i've seen her in "The Heartbreak Kid", i don't think i can look at the Silk Spectre and not think of her screaming "C*ck me!, C*ck me!"
The sex scene with her and the "birdman" are going to be particularly hard not to laugh at! (pun intended)

The thing is: Veidt's physical prowess is evident, so he doesn't need any armour type thing.

His is one of the examples of the exaggerated design of some of the suits (like that of Nite Owl's excluding obviously the nice cowl).

As far as how the costumes themselves look, I'm not too concerned with how "faithful" they are. The only exceptions are the Comedian and Rorschach (because, unlike the other characters, we see these two "in costume" more often than we don't), and they look spot-on in these pics.
Personally, I got no love for these promotional photos that are ubiquitous to any "superhero" flick. I don't need to see Christian Bale get in costume and pump his fist in the air; I have no interest in determining what Brandon Routh is doing on a Slurpee cup. Given the subtlety of the set pics and the nature of the source material, I thought Snyder would skew unconventional for the character reveals: like either give us something from the set, or ham it the fawk up (40s-era Moloch promotional pic, anyone?) for the geeks. This film is a year out, and I assure you that only the geeks are paying attention to this project -- until we get a trailer, that is.
Oh well.

I think judgment should be reserved until we see some footage!

Who you calling a geek! :cmad: ;)

I agree, promotional pictures are kind of... well, don't really capture what the movie will 'be'. But at least we know what the characters will look like aesthetically now.

No, they sure don't......but they just increase our hunger for more pics, footage, etc. :cmad::woot:

At first, Besides The comedians and Rors costume, I was weirded out, but as I keep looking I'm liking it more and more. First things first, we knew the customes were gonna change. Different medium, and also it has to balance the look out for fans and movie goers alike. The old costumes are good, and they were paying a tribute or Tongue-in-cheek to the superhero of that time, and I see Zach is doing it to the superhero movies of this "time". Anyways, I like the costumes their faithful to the characters and themes. Snyder gets a thumbs up from me.:applaud

Well, I'm looking through one of my gay magazines and there's this ad that reminded me of Dr. Manhattan right away. Its a fully naked man in full bodied blue make up; Nothing is showing thanks to shading. I'll try to scan it and upload it as I think it's the best way to adapt his look.

I hope they show the flamethrower thing at the beginning of that.

Zach Snyder faught the studio tooth and nail to make this a truer incarnation of the comic than any man on this project has dared to try and create. He managed to get the studio to give into a LOT of not-typically-commercial creative choices. To think that they would even consider doing a marketing campaign without those types of shots, aimed at the geeks and not the general public, is a little absurd. There is nothing to sell the geeks on. The Watchmen fans will be first in line. I frankly don't care how they sell the movie. How nitpicky are we getting when we're complaining about the feel of the advertising?

Watch No Country for Old Men. Watch the trailer for No Country for Old Men.

Sometimes, you just have to sell your movie. Plus, who didn't want to see promo shots of the actors in costume? Better than blurry leaked pics.

I imagine Manhattan will be wearing a speedo the entire time or he won't have a penis- ala Silver Surfer:o

That would've looked a billion times better.

I agree, he really should have been given round goggles, and please, remove that nose piece...oh well.

oh well, yeah we can ***** about the costumes as much as we want, but we cant always get what we want, im happy with what we are given

It's not just the goggles, it's also the headpiece. The manip looks worlds better because the crown of the headpiece comes higher so the ears look less pointy. Looks much better.

And yes, it's not going to change, but that doesn't mean people can't voice their opinions.

wow they look great - I've had the book for almost three years now and I haven't read it. I need to get on that before the movie is done.

where is ozymandias's mask? and will there be a hooded justice apperance?

I'd assume so. If i'm not mistaken, Carla Gugino has mentioned that the almost-rape of her character is in the film, which means Hooded Justice should be too.
