I saw it and liked it. Kind of inspired me to hunt down the graphic novel and give it a read. Heck, didn't even know that existed till this movie.

saw it and i loved it...breaking out red dead redemption tonight lol

I gave it a 7, which seems to be common according to the poll.
It had solid performances and was decent fun, but that's about it. Kinda forgetable.

I went expecting good entertainment. I came away feeling like this...in a bad way.

I thought that was the reaction to Green Lantern.

That's pretty much my take as well.

That's pretty much my take as well.

Cast was great, and honestly, it was a much better western than an alien invasion movie. I think I would have preferred to see a straight western with this cast. But it was the most generic of alien invasion story.

I thought Craig did good, and ford.

The rest of it, including the story I felt very poor.

The most excitement I got was a chance of seeing olivia wilde naked.

Besides that, what a predictable stupid story. Everything about it screamed "hey this is going to happen!"

Mind you, I bet the graphic novel is a better read.

I'd given Daniel Craig and Ford and some of the other actors a 10/10. However, I really felt this movie didn't translate well from a graphic novel to a movie. Overall, 5/10. Forgettable, Cheesy.

I liked it. Critics have some major sticks up their asses. It was solid summer entertainment, plain and simple. Rockwell kind of stole the movie for me.

I thought it wasn't bad, which is just shy of good. It was predictable but still entertaining enough in pretty much the same way Iron Man 2 was. Though C&A definitely isn't trash and is in my opinion passable entertainment, it doesn't help slow Fav's descent into mediocrity any.

I saw it and liked it. Sure I could nit-pick, and it certainly isn't a perfect film, but I had quite a bit of fun watching it. For such an "out there" premise, it took it self successfully seriously enough to be engaged with it.

Saw it today. It was pretty good, but not great. As many reviewers and posters have said this would have worked much better as a straight ahead western. I liked the cast a lot, they all did a great job, but everytime the aliens came on screen I was instantly bored. The sci-fi portions just felt lackluster. I would have loved it so much more had it been a straight ahead western. Like I said, it was good, but not great.

Saw it today, was entertaining at least. As a Western, it was pretty good and authentic to the time period including the language. The last Western I saw was True Grit, which of course had modern language that felt out of place.

Very straight-laced - felt like a Western more than anything else that just happened to have aliens in it. My favorite characters were Craig, Rockwell, the two Native American leads (the young boy and the older 30-ish one), and Clancy Brown. It was sorta weird seeing Clancy Brown in live action, as I'm so used to hearing him as Lex Luthor in the DCAU. :p The few comic-relief lines weren't bad either btw, but it might have helped if there were more of them.

My two biggest complaints are Olivia Wilde who didn't really do anything (pretty much anyone could have played her role IMO) and the design of the aliens. They looked like a mini version of Super 8's crossed with the ID4 aliens, or something like that. Was hoping for something different. Also, the scene from the trailers where Rockwell said "Should we step in?" followed by Ford's "Looks like he's doing fine" wasn't in the movie. I always hate it when there are scenes in the trailer not in the movie.

Would rate it maybe 7/10 - entertaining but not great. As far as acting, I think Craig and Rockwell turned in the best performances. Not that Ford was bad but it seemed like he was half sleep-walking through his role.

Oh and I want to see Battleship. It has Liam Neeson, ok? :p

Saw this earlier today. It was okay. Not great, but still fun.

For anyone who's read the comic, was it loyal? Or was it just the same concept?

It wasn't bad, but it could have been much more. The aliens weren't particularly interesting, though their machines were cool.

And Olivia Wilde's character could have been used much better.

Was anyone else disappointed that
we didn't get to see her true form?

If people think aliens and the Old West are an unheard of combination, they should do some research. One of the first purported alien crash was in Texas in the late 19th century. The History Channel had a whole feature on "Aliens and the Old West".

Just got some free tickets for an advanced screening in Manchester. Looking forward to it :)

It was great fun. Craig was more badass in this movie than in Bond IMO.

By the way...why isn't there a alien invasion add on in Red Dead Redemption.

whats funny is that if Bay would make the same movie the same who liked it would nitpick about it. but hey this movie has Indiana Jones and James Bond and our Marvel guy si directing it.

sorry dont buy it.

Aliens and cowboys in the same movie is fresh. This is also Harrison Ford's first western. That's two fresh things right. Heck, the whole movie is fresh.

1979's Frisco Kid with Gene Wilder is Harry's first western:o

Hostile aliens invading earth in a time period in which nuclear bombs, tanks ,or jet fighters arent available to thwart their threat, has always been an interesting concept. In the year 2011 our minds have been prepared with thousands maybe even millons of stories of aliens and spaceship sightings. But how would one react to spaceships/aliens in the year 1873?

Mixing elements of Clint Eastwood's cowboy with no name films and War of the Worlds
this mix works for the most part.Daniel Craig is good throughout as a man with amnesia
suffering from a stab wound, and a laser firing bracelet on his arm.
Craigs interaction with Percy(Paul Dano) the trouble making, and cowardly son of
Colonel Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford) was hilarious.Olivia Wilde as Ella Swenson, a beautiful and mysterious woman this character worked for me for a good portion of the film, but after awhile her character just becomes a big plothole.
Ford is good as the gruff and tough Colonel, and i hope he and Craig re-team in the future.
The film weakens a bit when it enters its last hour, with unintended, laughable and too convenient moments.
The Aliens? Well they were pretty much boring, also the fact that they are almost a carbon copy of this summer's other alien invasion film Super 8 didnt help much. But the films have the same producers,so....OK
The action sequences is solid and rest of the supporting cast Clancy Brown,
Keith Carradine,Adam Beach, and Walton Goggins are quite good.
Though a bit lackluster in some areas Cowboys & Aliens is still a fun film and as i left the theatre and rode off into the....well walked off into the sunset,i decided to finally read the Cowboys & Aliens graphic novel on which the film is based and if a film prompts one to want to read more about an interesting concept thats not a bad thing at all
Scale of 1-10 a 7 ½

Agreed. Fun movie, good performances, but not going down as a classic. 7/10

Disliked the alien designs. Could have been better.

I didn't really get what the aliens were doing on Earth. Mining gold? What do aliens need gold for? Not to mention that they could just go get it on Mars, where no cowboys would be shooting at them. I'm probably over thinking this.

after watching the movie i searched out the comic. the only similarities they have is the name and the premise and one character i won't spoil. the movie is mostly told from the cowboys stand point. the comic is from the cowboys, aliens and the indians. also the comic had a message about what settlers are doing to the indians, the aliens are doing to earth. i didn't really look into this movie before hand so im not sure if it was stated that it would be loosely based on the comic or what. so if you liked the comic, expect a loose translation. you can still enjoy the movie without any knowledge of the comic. truthfully it's not like the comic was all that great. i think the movie and the comic were just ok, nothing special. the premise is awesome the execution by both are just ok.
