Creepy clown lingers on streets of Northampton in middle of the night

http://metro.co.uk/2013/09/15/not-funny-creepy-clown-lingers-on-streets-of-northampton-in-middle-of-the-night-4012455/

When you go out to East Midlands today, you’re sure of a big surprise.

An unnerving, anonymous clown has sent shivers down the spines of Northampton residents by lingering on street corners in full fancy dress, for three nights in a row.

It reportedly first appeared on Friday 13th and was spotted again on Saturday, under the cloak of darkness on Cedar Road in the north-east of the city.

With its white face, drawn-on brows, a red wig and ruffled collar, it is a carbon copy of the Pennywise clown from Stephen King-inspired 1990 horror film, IT.

The scary apparition-like sight has also been seen standing on a pavement waving with a teddy hanging between its fingers in its other hand.

The minor celebrity now even has its own Facebook page which poses the question ‘Can you spot me around Northants?’

The clown has ruffled social media users, one of whom said: ‘I am simultaneously fascinated and petrified by the idea of the #northamptonclown.’

Another said: ‘Seriously what’s this thing about a clown in Northampton standing outside houses with balloons #scared #northamptonclown.’

The clown also knocked on a stranger’s door and offered to paint their window sills despite having no equipment, the Northampton Herald & Post reported.

A photo of its appearance on Sunday night on Abington Street, ironically standing next to a sculpture of two children running in opposite directions, has graced the Facebook page.

The lonely clown has said in its Facebook group, which now has over 20,000 likes, ‘I don’t terrorise people I just want to be spotted.’

However, that hasn’t allayed the fears of one Facebook user who said: ‘You’ve been spotted now get out of the clown suit and start acting like a grown up that you supposing are and stop scaring people as some people do have real fears of clowns and you are terrorising them despite what you may say.’

Could be a viral thing for the IT remake :awesome:

My ex is terrified of clowns. He would not deal with this well.

Creepy clown. Calling a clown creepy is redundant, isn't it?

A creepy clown is no match for SWAMP MADNESS oh yeah. You wanna give me a hug Bozo, OK go ahead, crack! I just stepped into the creepy clown and stunned him with the back of my hand even as my clenched fist crunched his Adam's apple. So long as your doors are locked, it might be fun.

IT is truly an abyssmal movie compared to the novel.

I knew nothing good would come out of Alan Moore's dimension-hopping. He brought John Constantine into our world-he encountered him twice, no less-and now this insanity. :p

I've never understood some people's fear of clowns, I just find clowns silly. If someone is lurking in my yard, I'll smack him & ask questions later.

I'm not afraid of them but I definitely do not like them either. I find nothing appealing to clowns. Or more specifically, clown make-up.

Pennywise is probably responsible for a good deal of clown fear too now that you mention it.

**** like this doesn't help matters either.

Somebody watched IT a little too many times. As cute as this is, this man has to be a bit deranged. Hope someone is at least doing a check on him.

It seems weird that he's only interested in "getting spotted" and that he's promoting himself so much via FB, letting people know what nights he's out on the town. It's almost like he's inviting someone to come **** with him.

He's not breaking the law, technically. So I predict this ends in one of two ways: he gets into some kind of altercation with someone, or he fades away into obscurity after a week and gives up his pointless crusade all together.

Unless it turns out to be a public relations stunt for some new movie, television show or product...

Have you gone to the "Spot Northampton's Clown" FB page? Seems like this dude genuinely enjoys what he's doing and nothing more. He's really into it. Pretty funny stuff.

No, I have no interest in giving him more attention than he already has.

Reminds me of that Supernatural episode with the clown.

Actually, I bet to differ. I'm pretty sure it was because of this movie:

I know this because a lot of people (mainly women) tell me when I ask why they hate clowns.
