CD Projeckt Red Cyberpunk 2077

I reckon I’ll try and chase up a refund. May as well wait for them to patch it then buy it at a quarter of the price with all the dlc a few years later or just not bother. It’s just so ugly and limp compared to what they were showing us. It looks like a slightly jazzed up goldeneye 64.

whatever at least I still have hyrule warriors to play

Does this get an award for best roll out release?

I am super interested in trying this out but all of this stuff about it running poorly on consoles is off putting. Ill wait to see if there’s a better patch and latch

I don't want to say the complaints are overblown. But when I got Arkham Origins, I didn't really notice a lot of issues technically. The game did crash on me once. Now, an isolated game crash isn't something I've had with just Arkham Origins. Sometimes, the fast travel feature with the Batwing didn't work all that smoothly. But that's all the game had in terms of technical issues.

Sometimes though I do want to see for myself if it's unplayable.

For example, the open beta I tried for Anthem was broken and virtually unplayable. The game was a mess.

The problem seems to be there is a wide variency in terms of how the bugs are popping up. Now two games seem to be acting up in the same way. But it does seem the game just outright sets base Xbone and PS4 on fire.

They have announced 2 major patches, in Jan and Feb. We will see if that fixes things, or if they are delayed.

I was planning on starting this when the Series X upgrade becomes available but with all these bugs and lack of AI, I'm not sure if I'll bother.

You ever tried to play a game on a pc that was too weak to play it? Thats what this game is like on last gen consoles. I've played buggy games like Assassin's Creed Unity and Bethesda games at launch. Im familiar with the typical launch shenanigans. But this feels much more like a high end game trying and failing to run on a weak rig. And thats on an X1X. Idk how they fooled themselves into thinking this could run on on an OG X1 or OG PS4.

Unless you have a next-gen console or a reasonably powerful PC, don't bother at least till February.

Bugs aside. The characters and the quest design in this game are absolute trash.

How so?

Also, I maintain the game should've been third person OR it should've allowed for both third person and first person gameplay.

It still seems insane to me that you can't regularly have a choice between both styles these days.

No one outside the first few people you meet have not particularly memorable and quests typically devolve into fetch this or murder that. I keep calling this a poor man's Deus Ex, but it's substantially worse than that. I don't really understand why you weren't given a third person option either. Modders will put it in the pc version eventually.

To me having all those clothes and gear is pointless in a first-person game.

Honestly, from what I've seen, this game doesn't seem to far surpass the Deus Ex games, which from what I've seen offered a ton of variety and choices on par with top RPGs in the last decade.

Having played the Deus Ex games and was impressed but thought they could be better, to hear this is 'worse' than that, I'm leaving well alone.

To be fair. You can still see your body in this game if you look down but that's just makes the fact third person isn't there all the more irritating.

Gonna have to strongly disagree there, personally. The characters, for me anyway, are very well written and I'm often very interested in where things go.

I've put about 50 hours or so into this on PS5, and I've beaten the main story. Some crashes aside, it's run beautifully on the PS5. I think the game probably shouldve pushed to march just so that they could get the bugs out, there's nothing they can do about that now other than fix them. Personally, I don't think they shouldve set a release date until they were sure. I also think perhaps releasing on last gen may have not been the most ideal choice but at the same time, this game was announced even before last gen consoles. It's a weird situation. I also think expectations for this game were far far far too high, to the point where it was being built as "the final game" haha. For me, it's a fantastic RPG that has bugs. I also love Night City, and can't stop taking photos of its wet/neon lit streets.

Regardless, I'm definitely happy with the game and it's definitely the most fun I've had in a game like this since RDR2. Crashing is pretty much the only negative I've gotten so far, but It hasn't effected how much I'm loving it.

Oh No Mans Sky that was another colossal failure of a launch

CD Projekt have called an emergency board meeting

highlights
- no one forced them to release early
- they’re “encouraging” people not to seek a refund
- they admit to not focusing on consoles and decided just to focus on PC instead

Why wouldn’t they focus on consoles as well? They’re going for the 20 million sales numbers and willing to let the majority of those players get a substandard experience, and ridiculous in the case of X1/PS4 guys?
Because CDPR is mainly a PC developer. They had to downgrade the graphics in The Witcher 3 because of the consoles. Also the fact that TW3 on PC has outsold the other platforms (number of concurrent players on Steam even broke a record last year thanks to the Netflix series), I think it's safe to say CDPR realized where the majority of their fanbase lies.

As for "substandard experience", now console players get a taste of what us PC players regularly get when it comes to bad ports...

Oh I only found out today that the ps5/series x port is not yet released.

Except it isn't. The majority of Witcher 3 sales even after the release of the show, are on consoles. Which means on the front end, consoles sold more. Because as with every big release, PC gamers come around the backend, with ridiculous sales and such. Especially when they have PCs years later, that can run a game they maybe couldn't a half a decade ago.

Witcher 3's Sales By System--How The Game Has Sold On PC, PS4, Xbox One, And Switch

Also when it comes to PC vs. Consoles, the obvious difference is the expectation of stability for anything released on it. You buy a console, because the game should work. When you buy a PC even a gaming one, that is a very difference expectation. Especially when you consider how many games work on PC and not another.

This whole saga is something, and really makes you think how gullible some were to believe CDPR when it comes to other things, like crunch. The refund stuff is ridiculous.

The funny thing is, there is this weird eliteism over PC vs. New Gen vs. Current/Last Gen, and it's ridiculous. Like, "why did you release the game on those old ones. Why did people buy the old ones". And it's like... dude. There are 100m PS4s out there. That's why they did it. They cared about sales first and foremost and a huge chunk of those came out with the PS4 and the Xbox One.

Considering The Witcher 2 was one of the worst cases of consolitus I've ever seen, I don't buy CDPR as a primarily PC focused company anymore and haven't been for quite some time. I just think they dropped the ball with this game across the board and couldn't figure out what exactly they were doing with the IP. I'd love for Larian or Obsidian to get their hands on Cyberpunk next.

Yeah even if the PC version is somewhat better in terms of performance, it didn't get much lover either.

Clunky inventory/UI with consoles in mind, half of key bindings cannot be remapped (I had to change a file to remap F to E for Interact/Use for ****'s sake), no dedicated dodge and holster weapon keys...

-edit- Fortunately, there are mods.

Enhanced Controls

Witcher 2 is what I think they should have went for here. Something more in a corridor, to allow them to not only get it done, but refine what they had. Where they got in trouble here imo is they decided it had to be Witcher 3, for no other reason then they made the Witcher 3. It blows my mind that in this game that is suppose to be all about choice and being whoever you want to be, you can't change your hair, get a tattoo, etc.

Also on a bit of a side note. After getting rightly called out on some issues, the company really hit back at those pointing out the possible issues with their ideas on representation. They were very big on the idea that they were doing in that regard. Yeah... no. Which I don't even think would be much of an issue, but they felt the need to slap themselves on their backs over the whole saga.

They should have just made a straight Deus Ex clone. The core gameplay was clearly inspired by Deus Ex. I thought Mankind Divided was rough, but I have greater appreciation for that game now after playing this mess.

Oh, the irony, Samurai...
