CD Projeckt Red Cyberpunk 2077

Getting a refund on this, might give it another look after it gets a lot more bug fixes and its DLC comes out. But it's just not polished enough, doesn't take advantage of my PS5 (in hindsight, PS5/Series X version not being ready at launch should've been a huge red flag), consistently crashes every 1-2 hours, and is missing a lot of features.
Glad you were able to get a refund.

Currently the PS4 and Ghost are updating. The PS4 is not very old (4 years give or take) but has this past year and a half the habit of failing to install OS updates unless done via safe mode so I have to shut it down completely, then redownload the update and then wait for it to do all the restart nonsense and then it will let me update Ghost of Tsushima and finally play. :woo:
Seriously? That sounds super annoying. I have a first gen PS4, and it doesn't have that problem.

interesting, PlayStation 4 seems most effected by this whole mess but all these patches are either for every platform or specifically Xbox. Adds weight to my theory they’re planning to be bought out by Daddy Gates
Perhaps, but I would assume it is because they partnered with Microsoft for this launch. Hence the special edition Xbox.

oh ghost of Tsushima is amazing! Get that, you’ll have the best time!

CDPR's growth has been so sharp from a smaller developer to a major player that this launch shock and 42% wiped off their market cap in 2 weeks may be reminding them of what the risks were like back when they were smaller. I think they would want to remain independent ideally but this is a stark reminder of how fast things can change when you are in the AAA business and don't yet have a diversified portfolio of existing IPs and moneymakers already running. The capacity for growth is much larger but the possibility for collapse is also there - imagine if anything happened with their next Witcher game.

Yeah, and the update is the same one from September I already did for the PS4... :argh:

Anyhow, I have gotten a little deeper into Ghost. I hope once they properly fix Cyberpunk it is this good.

The funny thing is, there is this weird eliteism over PC vs. New Gen vs. Current/Last Gen, and it's ridiculous. Like, "why did you release the game on those old ones. Why did people buy the old ones". And it's like... dude. There are 100m PS4s out there. That's why they did it. They cared about sales first and foremost and a huge chunk of those came out with the PS4 and the Xbox One.

Like I agree with you that once a developer commits to make a game for a platform that it needs to be the best game possible for that platform, but I also think the current industry expectation that big AAA games should be released on both next gen and current gen consoles at the time of new console releases needs to go. If as a developer you want to make a big cutting edge open world game - ****ing commit to that and don't hamstring yourselves trying to make the game also work on 5 year old technology that is at the end of its lifespan. None of us expected Nintendo to release Super Mario 64 on the Super Nintendo in 1996. Or Metal Gear Solid 4 on the PS2...

And the console makers ought to be bankrolling developers so they don't feel the need to sell their games on last gen consoles as well in order to recoup development costs. I mean the whole basis of getting people to buy new consoles used to be that they run new games that you can't run on their predecessors...

have not played it in the last few days saw was there an update (1.05) did that do anything different than 1.04?

Yeah, a character now actually appears so a mission can start. :o

Not joking, that is one of the major things. I never encountered it but I know someone did.

I get the theory here, but I don't think it applies to Cyberpunk. When it was announced back in 2012, the PS4 was still two years off. They made a big song and dance of it being released for the next gen all the way back then. Announcing it when they did was probably a big mistake, because they didn't even start properly working on it until 2016, after the release of the Witcher 3's Blond and Wine.

The issue with this game isn't that it came out on the PS4 and Xbox One. This game doesn't seem to run well on anything that isn't a top of the line and even then, not the best. The issue here is the game was rushed out. There are plenty of games as pretty or prettier then 2077 that run beautifully on the consoles. They simply rushed it out, and in the process cut and condensed the hell out of the game. It's going to crazy to hear exactly what happened, because you can see the stuff from the old trailers that was cut, an there is so much material. Same with the systems in the game that feel very half-assed, like hanging threads that were cut.

On the console front, Sony and Microsoft have no issue shifting their consoles at launch. They don't need Cyberpunk to do that, and the game isn't even available for their new consoles. Simply backwards compatible. Any games Sony needs to push their consoles, they can make in house, which they are doing.

Hopefully mods can fix some missing features/content. Something like the restoration project for KotOR II but I won't bet my mortgage.

The idea that this game was always intended to only be in first person, is one of those obvious lies that makes you wonder what else they were BS'ing about.

Seems like many devs are angry with the board and senior managers for how they have handled everything, throwing away that hard-earned reputation they had prided themselves on. I wouldn’t be surprised if setting up a new shop or a team of devs moving to another house could be on the cards at some point in future. Events like these are what plant those kinds of seeds.

They went from the rebels to just another corporation. Has to hurt. Especially when they all had to work so hard to get their rep. Just so they could push this game out a year or two before it would be ready. If they waited until April 2022, and they finished everything they intended, this game could have been legend. Now it is a rather good game, destroyed by an awful launch.

Man, I miss when the worst thing CDPR did was cut two obvious storylines from a 250 hour Witcher 3.

I'm almost certain this will happen. Fans finished Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines, they'll finish this.

Their golden boy reputation amongst fans has been trashed and it’s such a shame. I’m pretty sure the guys behind Witcher 3 could have turned Cyberpunk into one of the best games to date if things had been allowed to develop at their natural cycle rather than have the board exert too much pressure on them along with incorporating shady tactics that many devs wouldn’t have been comfortable with. I will still play this in a year or 2 when the bugs at least are hopefully long gone.

All of this just so they could get the game out by Christmas. There’s no way they made more money by getting it out by christmas then they lost in terms of

stock market
Returns
Loosing access to the PlayStation store
Reputation destruction which will affect if people even bother with dlc or any possible sequels or whatever
Money lost due to having to emergency patch it in the next few months
Merchandise like funko pops that are just going to rot on the shelves now
Employee dissatisfaction
Etc etc

like as managers how would you even spin that to try and keep your job?

Random question because it's driving me nuts: does Gavin Drea's voice in this remind anyone else of another actor? He sounds SO FAMILIAR to me, but I've looked him up, and it's not based on anything I've seen HIM in - it's somebody he sounds exactly like to me. But I just can't place who it is.

Aaron Paul? :D

And I'm sad that Studio Trigger is still involved with this train wreck.

So after putting 80 hours in on PS5, and completing the main story, all side jobs, gigs, and NCPD missions i have to say that I truly truly love this game. I get it, it had a very very rough launch, but when it works, oh man is it incredible for me. I didn't have much issues aside from some crashes, so keep in mind I'm going by my experience. An absolutely fantastic game for me, and I don't want ot leave Night City. eager for DLC.
