Daily Planet Redux: Man of Tomorrow News and Speculation Thread

2025 - Superman / Peacemaker
2026 - Lanterns / Supergirl / Clayface
2027 - Man of Tomorrow

Considering that's a third of the way through the "10-year plan," it is fairly underwhelming.
The choice to not watch is always an option.

But James Gunn literally said that this isn't Superman 2 and that Superman only has a major (not central) role in this film.

It sounds like this is going to be Lex's film.
He obviously said that so that people wouldn’t know he was writing a direct sequel to Superman.

I’m currently reading post Exile when the eradicator is playing around with Supes’ mind by making him into a cold, callous Kryptonian. The arc is called “Day of the Krypton Man” and it was great.
Up until Tomasi’s Rebirth run, that arc was my favorite take on the Eradicator!

If this thing is Lex teaming up not just with Supes, but the potentially the whole Justice Gang... we get to see Lex interact with Guy.

Quite intrigued by, Clayface.

Clayface will be the introduction of the DCU Batverve. Gotham looks great. Fans don’t seem to understand that you need to develop other characters besides Superman and Batman to create a universe.

Clayface is definitely the DC Studios movie I'm most excited about right now.
I couldn't care less that it's not part of a long-running saga; I'll leave that to Gunn and his little sandbox/Gunnverse within the bigger sandbox/DCU he's supposed to be creating.

Just give me a stylized fantasy/horror movie that captures the unique atmosphere of Gotham City, and I'm in. I've said before that I can imagine Man-Bat existing in the world Reeves created for his Batman, if the character were treated in the style of Cronenberg's The Fly. I like to think that this Clayface has a bit of that in itself.

Everything in the DCU appears to be completely different like comic books coming to life. I love it but I get after watching Superman you might not be a fan of Peacemaker. Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman will be completely different in their movies. When they come together in 2030 watch out……

I mean while i have liked everything so far i can be disappointed its a bit slow going atm. They are spending time making Clayface when they could do something else.
This! I have absolutely no interest in a Clayface movie.

While I do agree, the thing is, when developing a universe people also want to see the biggest characters they have first to round out the universe. You have arguably the biggest known characters outside of just comic books in your library. So Wonder Woman should have been a priority from the outset. Unfortunately Gunn inherited a mess and back in 2023 they probably didn't want to announce Gal was finished.

Gunn's Batman probably would have gone forward if the comic book movie genre hadn't completely cratered I'm 2023.

It seems to me like the plans changed with the renewed focus on building out superman and getting wonder woman going, all while having a Batman universe already working. The only reason they went forward with clay face is that they can pretend it's connected to Reeves saga.

Not an unfair critique. The original slate they were aiming for had a much more eclectic mix of properties. I’m expecting the next 2/3’s of “the plan” to have a more diverse offering, especially once you account for Batman, Wonder Woman, etc.

That said, I’m enjoying what we have gotten and I’m super super excited for the 2026/2027 releases.

Creature Commandos
Superman
Peacemaker S2
Lanterns
Supergirl
Clayface
Man of Tomorrow
Wonder Woman
Creature Commandos S2

It's also curious that Gunn has written half of the official DCU projects to date.

I suspect anything of significant myth arc import will be the Gunn show. Although maybe Lanterns will prove me wrong.

I had a thought this morning:

I know that everyone is hoping for a Braniac appearance as the villain, (as am I) but with the title being “Man of Tomorrow” I could also see a left-field option being Magog.
