Daily Planet Redux: Man of Tomorrow News and Speculation Thread

I love Maggie and Bibbo and I hope we see them but this series already has a pretty big supporting cast since they also brought in the proto Justice League in addition to the DP crew and the Kents, and it sounds like Lobo, Peacemaker, Flagg, Waller and others might be making regular appearances, so it might be hard to find room for some of Superman’s other supporting players.

Depending on the villain(s) in future films, I feel like we could see more supporting cast members/more heroes emerge that directly relate to those characters. For example, if Brainiac is the big bad in this movie (fingers crossed) I think we could see Brainiac 5 show up from the future (or we could see Superman travel to the future to get his help). I do think there is a chance we could see some Legion characters show up eventually and if they introduce them here, that could tie this movie in with Boosted Gold. But I’m not sure they SHOULD do that because it might make the movie feel a bit convoluted and overstuffed.

Switching gears, if Parasite were to show up as the villain (or more likely a villain) we could get introduced to Emil Hamilton. Now, I doubt Parasite would be a big enough threat in this movie to necessitate a Superman/Lex team-up. But maybe Parasite AND Metallo? That could potentially lead to Lex feeling a need to clean up the mess he’s made since he created (or had a hand creating) both villains. And with Metallo you can introduce Sam Lane and Emmett Vale.

Obviously I’m a huge cheerleader for Brainiac being the villain here BUT if Gunn wants to keep this movie more earth based, then I think a Parasite/Metallo story could work. And that could even lead to Brainiac in the next film.

Rewatching Superman on Max has reminded me of that conspicuous line Lois had in there about Lex having a cult of devoted acolytes believing he would create a technological utopia. Just one of those lines that feels like deliberate sequel setup to me, so I'll be surprised if the Lex Cult doesn't come into play in this one.

P.S. I'm in love with the specialized "HBO Presentation" intro they put in front of this film on there. Hope it never goes away. :hrt:

That line always makes me think of this. :hehe:

The one thing that does trouble me about this is how it feels a little bit like we’ve finally found our Superman after all this time in terms of actor and characterization and here we go having another edgier character semi-hijacking his sequel again. Now, in terms of Cavill’s Superman back then I didn’t really care because even though MoS made a lot of money, people in general didn’t really embrace it.

But Coreswet’s Superman was a big hit with audiences. Hell, you can look across this board and even see posts by people who were mixed on the film itself but most of them seem to really like David and understandably so. But I keep seeing videos pop up where fans are like “This is going to be more of a Lex Luthor movie!” And I’m just kinda like… “Why?” Why does WB (and Gunn apparently) think that all Superman and DC fans want to see is more Lex? It’s not like we haven’t gotten enough of him over the years? Or why do they think Superman is only worthy of the main spotlight in one movie?

Look, maybe I’m just worrying over nothing. I probably am. And don’t get me wrong; I’m a fan of Lex too (and specifically I think Hoult’s Lex is perfect). But Superman is the key to the any cohesive DCU. I don’t want to see him brushed off to the side, especially when we have so many great stories to tell with Corenswet, Brosnahan, Alcock, the whole DP crew, the origins or Krypton, and of course, BRAINIAC.

That said, I’m sure Gunn can balance this movie out in a TDK/Heat kinda way with a shared focus on multiple protagonists and antagonists. But I was watching some analysis of Matt Reeeves’ comments on The Batman 2 today and he talked about how his starting point with the film is Bruce and how events of the film are built around him and how they affect him. And it made me wish (or hope) that Superman will get that kind of treatment in Man of Tomorrow, as opposed to centering the movie on Lex or forcing Lex and Superman to join forces. I know Gunn likes to take characters who are basically garbage people and redeem them (e.g., Peacemaker) but I don’t know that you need to or should do that with Lex. Especially after what he did in Superman. He straight-up blew a guy’s head off for no reason, kept people in a secret prison site for years and almost DESTROYED THE WORLD. I get the need to potentially work with him against a greater threat but it would be a bad move to try and turn him into a hero. I don’t think that would happen but you never know.

Anyway. We know very little at this point and that’s okay. And I’ll be there to see this movie on day one no matter what. I trust Gunn overall. I just want to see Big Blue continue to shine.

I was telling my wife yesterday that I can’t believe someone finally came around that can compare to Reeve. Corenswet is that guy. I think he has a fair shot at being the GOAT if I’m being totally honest.

Gunn’s Superman isn’t a perfect movie but it got the character 100% right. I am so thrilled, and for the first time in a long time, I’m feeling really hopeful about Superman’s cinematic future.

Not gonna lie, it does feel like that 05-08 period between Begins and TDK. It’s just wild, I was in middle school for those days and now I’m married with a kid.

Yeah I’m sure I’m just getting myself worked up over nothing here. Gunn has spoken so highly about David and the public really seems to love him so I doubt he’ll be sidelined at all here or in the future. I just want to see a LOT of Superman.

It’s kind of a funny thing; I really do think the new movie has revitalized the character for a lot of people. I was visiting NYC the other day and walking around in my new Superman shirt and people kept coming up to me and being like, “YEAH! SUPERMAN!” I can’t recall that ever really happening in the past when I’ve worn various Superman shirts. Even had a really nice conversation with a lady who also liked Cavill’s Superman who said she was sad to see him go but also really enjoyed the new movie. The hype really feels real. Additionally, I’ve been hearing from friends who have gotten to check out the movie on HBO this weekend for the first time and really liked it.

I think Corenswet is the first film version of Superman, since Reeve ,to really get the GA's seal of approval which is good.

I'm glad Gunn is going straight away in giving us more of this version of Superman, as opposed to putting the character to the side to focus on the DCU Batman, or to shift focus to other DC characters , at Superman detriment.

Thankfully, he's got a find in Corenswet who , to me is a combination of young Brenden Fraser and a young Cary Grant.

I really like his Superman/ Clark Kent , and I'm glad he's gone over well with the GA .

The end credits scene with Mr. Terrific always cracks me up .

It’s so good!

I seriously think that post credits scene is a (PG) reference to the whole “Superman is a dick” meme. :D

Corenswet reminds me so much of Brendan Fraser it’s kinda weird. He would’ve been such a great Superman but I think he would’ve been even better as Shazam!

Brendan Fraser as Shazam and Arnold Vosloo as Black Adam was a missed opportunity.

I've been so picky over the years in regard to who I can see as Superman vs who just plays him. I grew up on Christopher Reeve, he was my first Superman and my sole reason for loving that character. So over the years, I've seen em all from kirk Allen all the way to Corenswet and with each new iteration, although I've been ok with them all, they always felt like a guy playing Superman as apose to actually feeling like Superman. As a kid I felt a warmth and kindness from Reeves version that made me feel like I wished he was my friend and I could give him a hug and say thankyou. No version since then has made me feel that way once I'd seen the show or movie. That is until Corenswet came along. Corenswet not only IS Superman to me because of how he's written but he acts and feels like that exact same guy I want to give a big hug to and say thankyou. I never thought I'd feel that ever again from an actor in my lifetime. I've watched Superman 2025 atleast 15 times now and I feel like I can't atop watching it because Corenswets Superman just makes me want more and more. I love Reeve, he was my first hero but David is my Superman now and I'm so happy I can say that.

I felt like I was taking crazy pills during the Snyder era because I honestly think Cavill might be the worst Superman we’ve had. He looked incredible in the suit, but his acting was flat, wooden, and completely lacking in charisma. That problem was there from Man of Steel and never improved, even though I kept hoping it would. I actually like Snyder’s movies overall, but Cavill himself ruined that version of Superman for me. With a better actor, I probably would’ve liked Snyder’s take a lot more.

*Cough* MAGA/President Luthor *cough*

Watching Superman from my own home and being able rewind and analyze a bunch of things stood out that will probably lead into Man of Tomorrow.

1. Lex Luther’s Planet watch. The Engineer was an American Soldier turned Metahuman by Luther. Will the government try to make Luther do the same with other soldiers. Luther could easily create the Authority. Sparks, Apollo, Harkmoor, and my favorite Midnighter could be Luther creations. Remember the Engineer is still out there. Maybe the Authority are a hidden Luther team that Lex puts into action once he was in prison. I believe if they go rogue the Authority would be a challenge for the Justice Gang and Superman.

2. The Hammer of Boravia suit and Luther’s raptors. The combination of both suits plus Kryptonian technology from Superman will make Luther’s suit for the Man of Tomorrow.

3. The Lois/Superman interview was a chef’s kiss. I must have rewatched that interview several times. Clark is both arrogant and a Boy Scout. Lois is putting it to him.

So many possibilities……..

The 1st draft is finished?! :funny:

Also, Gunn's tease.

He's coming.

So curious about the Brainiac casting. I imagine that will be the inky really bug casting announcement since I’m guessing there won’t be many other new additions. Though I do wonder if multiple actors might actually play different aspects of Brainiac.
