How 'Predator: Badlands' director made a predator to 'fall in love' with, hints at 'Alien' connection

To do this, Trachtenberg pulled inspiration from classic cinematic characters who "don't speak very much, but have a presence that's intimidating." Think Clint Eastwood movies, Mad Max in The Road Warrior, and Conan the Barbarian, he says. Basically, "characters that have a code in a morally ambiguous landscape that are very much sort of anti-hero, but still go through a gauntlet."
Trachtenberg says he knew Dek needed company, but to make her [Thia] human would mean that everyone, audiences and producers alike, "would start to get tempted by that human and their story." So, he made her a robot instead. "And then the next thought was, wait a minute, I know a company that makes robots. And that led to the Weyland-Yutani synth of it all," he explains. As for the character of Thia herself, he teases, "They are a pretty interesting and bizarre pairing for each other, and that's a huge part of the fun of the movie is their chemistry."
I feel like this is the movies biggest challenge in getting the audience to fall in love with this Predator, as all the negativity I have seen so far is about the design and look of this version, if Dek can win people over will be where this movie lives or dies, it feels like.![]()

Liking the sound of the dynamic between a Predator and android though this time and is the most interesting aspect to me as we haven't seen anything like that before in these movies, its a nice mix of the Predator and Alien worlds without the usual "hey look some terrible Pred-Alien hybrid" monster.
