Since we've known for a while that there is going to be a Darksiders 2, I thought it was interesting that we haven't heard any more about it at E3, GDC or PAX. I guess this means that they're taking their time with it. Perhaps they've taken on board all the speculation that the sequel could have co op with the other horsemen?

Anyway, couldn't find a thread for this, so thought it'd be something cool to discuss. I really enjoyed the first game.

I've been looking forward to this since that epic ending of the first one. The first one was a really underrated game and if you've been dying to play a Zelda game lately that is the game to buy. I'm assuming that the second will have co-op which they could really do some things that would make it awesome. Put in more enemies to compensate for the players, make insanely epic powerful moves that the players can combine with ala MUA2. Design puzzles that inspire chatting, teamwork, and critical thinking. Designing the game for 2 people would make it awesome and probably easier but if they could go for broke and make it for 4 people ah man that'd be awesome.

Yeah, I think at the very least there will be a different playable character.

Darksider really was a fantastic game. I can't believe how many people there are out there who just dismissed it as a God of War clone, it is definitely so much more than that. One of the stand out titles of the year if you ask me, especially for a debut IP.

Heh, I got a friend who actually dismissed God of War as a cheap Darksiders. I wanted to give him five across the eyes. :cmad:

Lol. As amazing as God of War is though, you've got to admit Darksiders is alot deeper. God of War is all about the epic battles and insane action, whereas Darksiders gives you more to do, a less linear path.

I gotta say too, as far as original works go, I liked the story for Darksiders much better than God of War. God of War 3 was the only one with a story I quite liked. Kratos was such a bastard but there needs to be at least something a little likeable or relatable for you to enjoy the game, and they didn't show the interesting side of Kratos until 3, with his relationship with Pandora (was that her name?)

I feel the complete opposite. I thought GOW3 was probably him at his worst. There was the stuff with Pandora, but that's not much in the redeeming area for me since not long before he let a young, and seemingly innocent, princess of Poseidon get crushed by a door (or door switch, whichever it was). All the stuff with his family in the original and what he did because of them made him far more 'human' to me, than anything in the other two games. He still wasn't all that likeable, but I don't think it was suppose to be, but I could see he was more than just a crazy monster. It's the reason I basically ignore the latter two games storywise, and just saw that story ending in the first, and the others were some 'What if...?' continuation :o

But anyway, not sure on this, because I haven't played the original, yet. Maybe I will before this comes out.

GoW 3's story was so awful. The team totally forgot about Kratos being compassionaite and just had him being careless and destroying the WORLD INCLUDING SPARTANS! Yeah i know at the end of the game he gives something back to humanity, but they really made him this hulking brute.

I'm excited for Darksiders 2. :) Really wanna see more Angels and Demons lashing out in a Apocalyptic world.

Lol Yeah, I play the pretend "What If..." game too. As far as i'm concerned, the X-Men movies ended with X2.

You should definitely play Darksiders, I would say it is easily worth a purchase. It's a very rewarding game.

I didn't mind God of War 3's story, but i'm not a huge fan of the whole series anyway. I think it deserves a place at the top of those kind of actiony hack and slash games, but I still think it's kinda shallow. Definitely not worth all the top scores it got. Graphically and visually stunning and amazing, but it just didn't break down any barriers as far as gameplay goes.

I really wanted to like the first games, but I don't need or want my Zelda clones to be "extreme" or "hardcore" or "badass" etc.

Lol Well it was more original than what Nintendo have done lately with the Zelda franchise.

Also, I think it's unfair to call it a Zelda clone anyway. Thats like calling Uncharted a Tomb Raider clone. Sure they're similar in format, but they also stand very, very far apart.

Don't know how I feel about a Darksiders 2. Where do we go and who do we go after in the sequel as the four Horsemen?

The only thing I could think of something as challenging is the other Horsemen are captured by a much more powerful opponent and War has to break them free.

Are you serious? It ended on a cliffhanger and we know exactly where it's going.

Like I said, the sequel needs a good challenge. The four Horsemen versus the "council" doesn't seem like it'll be hard to do, lol. It's the four Horsemen, beings that are supposed to be very powerful. If War could do all he did in the first game, the "council" shouldn't be all too troublesome for FOUR Horsemen.

And, again, as I said once more, the sequel should just focus more on War once more and the other three Horsemen should be captured or something. At least that would keep the trend as I believe the sequel would just be way too easy to have a 4 co-op.

My opinions though :cwink:

Well of course it will be a challenge, the council is the authority that actually gave the Horsemen their powers. They're the authority that essentially rules all three worlds, not to mention that the extent of their true power wasn't even elaborated on, but even in their basic form there they stripped War of his power easily enough.

It would really be lame to have the other 3 Horseman captured, just after they finally arrived. Having all 4 Horseman finally together, is probably what everyone wants to see after they finished the first Darksiders.

I don't think thats going to happen. I'm pretty sure I remember the head of Vigil making a mention of how the fans really want to play as the other horsemen, so I think they're aware.

I'm also sure it's not going to happen, just responding to Lightning's comment. not having the Horsemen, would be like seeing the Joker card in Batman Begins and then during TDK, Joker is already in jail at the very start of the Movie. The fans would hang you.

Yeah. I think the way Darksiders ends, their intentions for the sequel are very clear, and it's definitely setting itself up for something alot more epic than the first game.

The first game was pretty fun but the way War ran was annoying. I never felt like I was moving very fast. Also, the first hour or 2 is so boring because the combat is waaaay too simple. It gets better later on but the game started bad.

Unless you're a real man and play through on Apocalyptic first time :P

Also, the speed wasn't a problem once you got Ruin anyway.

My opinion's not going to change, lol. Having all four Horsemen in the game as playable would be idiotic, imo. For starters, I'm never a huge fan when it comes to multiplayer in a game like this, and for another thing is that having the 4 co-op would be just the typical route to go, which is, of course, would make it more fun, at least for me, to just play as one main character again, such as War.

But, if the other three Horsemen being captured is "dumb", what about playing as one Horseman at a time during the events of the sequel?

I doubt the main game would be 4-player co-op. I think that the main strength of a Zelda/adventure/puzzle type game lies in the single player experience. At most it would probably be 2-player co-op.

If they add 4-player co-op, it shouldn't be part of the main game. It should be a separate multiplayer mode, that gives you special scenarios that you can play with others. Uncharted 2 is always the best example for this. The main game was single player, while you got many modes that you could play with multiple players.

That said though, we've never seen a zelda style game been done with Co-op before, and I don't think that just because it hasn't happened it shouldn't be considered. If a developer was dedicated and committed enough they could make it work, and there wasn't really anything in Darksiders technically that would stop co-op from working practically. It was basically fighting, exploring and puzzles, both of which could still work. The only thing that would be different are the quick time events, but imagine how epic and amazing a giant tag team Boss finishing move could be?

Personally, i'd love to see Death and War and have 2 player co-op. That could be awesome.

I know that literally is a co-op Zelda game, but that doesn't count with the context of what I was saying. That was a top down multiplayer puzzle and quest game, of which there have been HEAPS before, but within the context of fully fledged 3d adventure games, specifically ones like Zelda or Darksiders, we really haven't had anyone try it. Think of games like Brutal Legends, or Psychonauts, those kind of platform adventure/action games. The only co-op one I can think of is Fable 2, and as lame as the co-op was in that, it was still more ambitious for co-op (with Fable 3 looking even more so) than Darksiders co-op would ever be, with a much simpler leveling up system and no big moral choices or player specific game changing.
