Darthphere's House of Style: From Geek to Chic.

I'm 6'2 and 230 lbs...there is only so much I can do as it relates to clothing....lots of tshirts and gym shorts

So, what kind of shoes do you guys wear?
Well I'll wear a more casual leather loafer (like Steve Madden or Kenneth Cole reaction) or boots if I'm going out at night with friends.

Sometimes I'll wear a "clean" tennis shoe or bowling shoe like adidas, puma or Steve Madden again. This is usualloy if we're hanging out during the day and I'm not dressed up to go out.

For dressing nicer I love my Ferragamo shoes. They're my most expensive shoe, but will last me far longer than most shoes will plus they look good and are comfortable.

Also on a side note, a great website for designer clothing is www.bluefly.com They have a lot of great discounts if people are into designer clothing. I usually look on there for certain styles, and then go into a store to actually try the clothing on to make sure it fits right and looks good on me.

What's your favorite clothing brand? (Limited to 3 because I know someone will ***** about not being able to choose one.)
Burberry - I love their ties. I have about a dozen of them. I have a few accessories like a wallet, umbrellas as well as shirts.

Banana Republic - A little bit more upscale then the Gap, where I usually buy my tops from t-shirts, to long sleeves to jackets, etc. The only thing I don't buy from there are jeans. (I usually go to Lucky Brand Jeans or Gap)

Gap - I like dressing casually so stuff that fits comfortably and is conservatively priced is great. I could buy a few shirts at a time and just wear them out and about as well as around the house.

When designing an outfit for a night on the town, what do you focus on first? (i.e. shoes, shirt, jacket, jeans/pants)
Usually the top, because I have jeans, khakis, dress pants, casual pants etc. I could usually do 3 different pairs of pants at least depending on what I was wearing for a top.

How would you define your style? Hybrid answers are welcome.
I work in an office, I have to tress somewhat conservatively or even preppy. Even today on Friday, I'm wearing jeans with a collared polo shirt.

Your favorite article of clothing?
They really have to be my ties. But you really need a nice shirt or suit to go with them. I have a few ties with nothing to really wear them with because I liked the tie first and now I have to work backwards to get the outfit. And I usually just don't like putting a tie with just a white shirt.

Your least favorite article of clothing?
I really don't have a least favorite because I usually know what I like and don't keep what I don't like.

Your favorite accessory? (This could also include any tech like a cellphone)
Sunglasses - I have about 3 different Oakleys (Blue, Red and Black lenses) as well as a nice pair of Ray-Bans (Brown). I looking to get the ruby lenses in the Oakleys replaced for a darker red like Cyclops had in the movie, the one that came with it, looks orange at times. Same frame though.

One fashion item you wish you could have but can't? State reason why.

Most of the suits I have now are either Calvin Klein or Ralph Lauren but I would really like a high end suit, something along the lines of Armani or even Dolce.

Marc Ecko has a Star Wars collection so I plan on getting this bad boy:

What's your favorite clothing brand?
Saint James
La Redoute

When designing an outfit for a night on the town, what do you focus on first? (i.e. shoes, shirt, jacket, jeans/pants)
Skirt or pants. Though, often enough, I'm more or less reaching for the little black dress.

How would you define your style? Hybrid answers are welcome.
I usually try to be classy, longer sleeves, longer skirts (I particularly love refitting my skirts to be angled at the bottom), button up tops, things not so glossy. A lot of solid colours stuff. I try to wear white, red, or blacks. I've been known to wear full on shirtwaist, wrap, gowns, and maxidresses. A nice coctail dress once in the while as well. However, with work, it's standard shirts and pants.

Your favorite article of clothing?
Blouses.

Your least favorite article of clothing?
Honestly, shoes.

Your favorite accessory? (This could also include any tech like a cellphone)
Waist chains.

I really wish I could pull off a heavier alt/makeup heavy look with red flares in my hair with a much more ragged cut to it. However, I'd hate doing the setup, I think I'd totally come off as a poseur, and work might frown upon the hair stuff.

Bah, I hate you guys. Now I wanna get all dressed up and hit the town, but I gotta work late tonight. :(

Gap stuff tends to fit weird sometimes. At least for me.

I've gotten stuff from the GAP that are the same size and one fit me small as hell and the other one fit me big. And no, they weren't fitted or anything.

For the past 11 years I've always had a pair of black Doc Martens.

That's a ******** excuse. I'm an inch taller and probably weigh 20 more pounds than you.

but are you comfortable?? I wear what's comfortable.....hence all the gym shorts and or jeans....

I don't wear anything that isn't comfortable. Everyone has their own idea of comfort however.

aking me pick just one is cruel. In the fantasy world where I have a lot of money to throw arond, I'd be spending a lot of it at Marc Jacobs, Chanel...pretty much any brand you would find in Saks. I really like what the Olsen's have done with their two lines.

In reality, I really mix my clothes from a variety of sources. I love fashion and I love having fun with it. I don't think shopping at one or two stores would help me achieve the look I want. That said when it comes to basic tees, tanks, and hoodies nothing beats TNA. It's a Canadian brand and it just makes them perfectly. They're soft and they fit beautifully. For funkier stuff I'll often hit Urban Outfitters. I like their selection of V-Neck shirts, which are better quality than the ones at American Apparel. They always have a cute selection of dresses. F21 is always good for a quick fashion fix, tthough I'm trying to wean myself off them. The stuff is so cheap. But my favourite is vintage and thrift shopping. Nothing beats finding a great little treat amongst some trash. I've scored leather purses, couture scarves, and high end dresses for unbelievable prices. My parents also used to own a vintage store, and I pretty much treated it as my personal closet. I miss that place so much :(

Good jeans are absolute must though. I swear by Citizens for Humanity. They fit so well, and give me an ass (which is quite a feat, I can tell you). I own two pairs and I adore them.

When designing an outfit for a night on the town, what do you focus on first? (i.e. shoes, shirt, jacket, jeans/pants)
Depends on where I'm going and what I'm doing. But I've never been the kind of girl who will wear an outfit based around shoes. I think every piece should compliment the other.

How would you define your style? Hybrid answers are welcome.

A little bohemian, a little trendy, a little hipster, with some classic pieces thrown in the mix.

Your favorite article of clothing?
oh god, I don't know if I could choose! lol, well I recently bought a lululemon bag, and it's pretty awesome for work and school, plus cute

mines all black but you get the gist of it

I also have red boots that look like superhero boots. their pretty awesome. I picked them up at winners for about 20 bucks and I wear them all the time. I also have a super old vintage pair of frye boots. They weigh like 8 million pounds but their awesome looking.

these look about the same to mine.

I have so many dresses I love and rotate through. I just bought this one and I'm working up the courage to wear it out. It's actually a lot more form fitting than I'm normally comfortable with.

I also love the high waisted pencil skirt look.

Your least favorite article of clothing?
Sport swimsuits. I used to wear them all the time during my swim team days and I still have to wear them at work (I'm a lifeguard). So uncomfortable. I guess I also hate bodysuits too. Can't wait for that trend to die.

Your favorite accessory? (This could also include any tech like a cellphone)
Purses. I love 'em. I own about 25, give or take. All sizes, all shapes, all colours. My next big splurge will probably be a Marc by Marc Jacobs purse

One fashion item you wish you could have but can't? State reason why.

I really can't have a Marc Jacobs purse. I can't afford it. I might buy it anyways :)

What's your favorite clothing brand? (Limited to 3 because I know someone will ***** about not being able to choose one.)
I don't really have much of a brand preference.

When designing an outfit for a night on the town, what do you focus on first? (i.e. shoes, shirt, jacket, jeans/pants)
Definitely a shirt then I base everything else off the shirt, since I mostly wear jeans

How would you define your style? Hybrid answers are welcome.
I would say very plain and straight forward style. Its not in my nature to stand out most of the time.

Your favorite article of clothing?
T-shirt

Your least favorite article of clothing?
I really hate to say it but a sweatshirt just because I don't have enough variety.

Your favorite accessory? (This could also include any tech like a cellphone)
Um do regular glasses count? Because that factors in sometimes.

One fashion item you wish you could have but can't? State reason why.
A nice black leather jacket that fits because I have one already but is bulky in the arms which drives me insane. :cmad:

I buy most of my stylish shirts off this site:
http://www.threadless.com/

Pretty cool designs and affordable, and they have pretty good sales at certain times.

Yes, I also plan my outfits in accordance with an impending zombie apocalypse.

What does it say about me that I had no idea you were female.:csad::csad:

So you like their stuff? I've debated buying a shirt from there.

I think they're great, the only complaint is that the shirt might shrink pretty fast in the wash. So say I ordered a medium and the shirt reached down past my waist line. In like the next week it ends at my waistline and feeling a little tight. It only happens once through. I would recommend ordering your size and see how it fits you after the shrink and if its kind of a bother order a larger size so the shrink won't matter as much.
