David Goyer's The Count of Monte Cristo

In the commentary on The Count of Monte Cristo Kevin Reynolds said that much of movie that was filmed wasn't used - some scenes were quite extended.

I don't suppose that it could be put together as a mini series at some time in the future to stand beside the one with Gerard Depardieu?

That's a brilliant idea!

I would love an HBO adaptation of the book, way more than a movie - and I personally wouldn't want it to be set in the present.

I honestly want a 100% accurate adaptation, and there is no way it could work in a movie. In a how? Hell yes.

Somehow you've got me thinking what if they made a modern take in a similar vein like BBC's Sherlock? I'd definitely get behind that. :)

Above all else though, I really enjoyed the 2002 version. I do watch it on a constant basis.

I kind of want to intercut those two incarnations to get the closest adaptation to the book yet, but even then, there's so much missing and changed.

I honestly just want a miniseries done as an accurate adaptation to the book - like Game of Thrones.
