As David O. Russell gets the final pieces of his cast for “The Silver Linings Playbook” in place, Deadline reports that Julia Stiles has boarded the film. Based on the book by Matthew Quick, the story centers on Pat Peoples (Bradley Cooper), a former high school teacher who, after being released from a four-year stint in a mental institution, moves back in with his mother; he then seeks to remake himself, finding the titular silver linings in his life. Jennifer Lawrence will play the love interest for Pat, with Stiles as her older sister. Jacki Weaver and Robert De Niro also star in the film, and remember when it was reported that Chris Tucker might be joining as well? That looks to be going through.
While Tucker was also eyeing “Neighborhood Watch” (that role went to Richard Ayoade instead), if he joins ‘Playbook’ it will mark his first film since “Rush Hour 3” and more importantly, the first he’s made without Brett Ratner directing in over a decade. Should the final negotiations get signed and sealed, Tucker will play Pat’s friend who resides in a mental hospital, but breaks out multiple times in order to visit him.
Shooting on the film starts soon and The Weinstein Company will release the film in the latter part of 2012.
Cast:

Bradley Cooper
Jennifer Lawrence
Jackie Weaver
Robert Deniro
Chris Tucker
Julia Stiles

This looks good.I'll be seeing this movie when it comes out.

Too bad that the trailer feels so like your standard cookie-cutter rom-com but I hope that it's just to appeal to a wider audience. I've heard nothing but good things about the book and from the test screenings.

I'm a huge fan of Jennifer and the chemistry between her and Bradley is evident in the trailer. Speaking of which I like Bradley but this role seems to be a good chance for me to be really impressed by him.

yeah the trailer really makes it look like just some cheesy rom com. I didnt read the book though

It looks like another scene-stealing role for Jennifer. She looks great!

Hopefully this movie will receive a better reception than Cooper's and Lawrence's last movies, The Words and HATES (an appropriate acronym given the way critics felt about it).

^well critics love this film and is getting best picture reactions

I've been a David O. Russell fan (his films, anyway) since Three Kings. Very much looking forward to this.

Saw this today. I loved it. Brad Cooper and Robert DeNiro both give great performances (and in a less crowded year, I could see Cooper easily getting an Oscar nod) but Jennifer Lawrence steals every scene she's in! She was excellent in this.

9/10

Video Review!

Great performances, interesting story that sucks you in right away! Just very heartwarming.
Bradley Cooper deserves a nomination for Best Actor, in my opinion...but I bet he won't get it.

Saw this yesterday. I really enjoyed it and the performances were all fantastic, but I have a feeling this will be my Descendants of this year's Oscar race, in that I don't necessarily think it deserves its "front-runner" status. Still, great movie.

He was fun, but he was barely in it.

Oh, didn't realize he had a small role in the movie. I didn't expect this to be that good, but you guys have convinced me to give it a try.

Having seen Rust and Bone today, I have to add that while Jennifer Lawrence was certainly nomination-worthy in this movie, if (when) she actually wins the Oscar over Cotillard, then there's truly no justice in the world.

Still have to see both myself. Have you seen Zero Dark Thirty? The pundits are saying that Chastain could possibly be the spoiler for BLA.

Ha, that would be an interesting last minute surprise. Haven't seen Zero Dark Thirty yet either, but Chastain is awesome, so the only thing that would surprise me about that development is that ZDT seems like such a non-showy ensemble piece to me so far. But we've seen so little from the trailers, I guess it's too early to gauge.
