Here's the quote of Clooney's version of it from his IMDB page (I've censored the language):

Damn... All of that is too much. I understand feeling the pressure, but damn, it's like he triggred his inner James Cameron and took it to 11.

In fact, he probably heard what Cameron did on the set of Titanic and thought, "This guy made a billion dollars after being an A-hole set."

Cameron pulled that kind of ****?

Go on...

Nothing like O. Russell. Cameron was just being a dick to everyone on set. Yelling and insulting people as Titanic was behind on production and overbudget. He infamously made Leo cry.

Yeah, Cameron's notorious for dramatic a-hole-ish behavior, but as far as I know, it's nothing close to Russell's past antics.

I mean, being a director is a very stressful job with few hours of sleep during production. You're in charge of a 7/8/9 figure budget in which if you mess up or the result is not up to snuff, you could lose millions of dollars for a company and even lose further opportunities to continue directing. There's no excuse for it, but directors aren't always in the right state of mind when there's that much pressure on you to succeed and things aren't going to plan.

Let's put it like this. It's a good thing for O'Russell that Three Kings was actually a hit both commercially and critcally or he would have had an incredibly hard time directing again.

I dunno, his behavior seemed pretty similar on I Heart Huckabees as well, if that Lilly Tomlin video's any indication. Maybe the humbling failure of that movie is what led to him becoming more of the team player that he seems to be these days. So if Three Kings had failed, maybe this new and improved Russell might have happened sooner, lol.

But I'm personally glad it didn't fail because my love for that movie knows no bounds.

O. Russell was truly a mad man back then, but you hear several different versions of this event in Rebels On The Backlot.
A lot of different POV's on what happened, and Clooney is hardly a saint in all of them.

Not that that should be an excuse for O. Russell being absolutely insane.

I heard that after I Heart Huckabees and before The Fighter, O Russell couldnt work. If it wasnt for Wahlberg he wouldnt have worked in Hollywood again.

That's why they allegedly had a falling out because Wahlberg wanted Cooper's part in SLP and he didnt give it to him; and Wahlberg felt like O Russell owed him. But I can see both sides of the argument if that story is true

Nah... Wahlberg already had the part. The problem was he asked for an added fee when the female lead he signed on with (Hathaway) backed out. When Anne dropped (because of TDKR), he asked for the fee and they didn't want to give it to him. Russell chose Cooper instead because he was cheaper and Russell felt that he was "hungrier" for the role.

I think Cooper and Lawrence were the perfect pair so I'm glad things worked out the way they did. I really do hope Russell and Wahlberg make up though.
