David O. Russell’s “Amsterdam” (Bale, Robbie, JDW)

Hm. Well, sure, if a Rotten Tomatoes score determines or factors into whether you ultimately see a movie, that's an unfortunate number to see.

But was already to see this anyway, so RT or not, I'll be at the theater when it's out in a week or so. If it came down to RT, I'd have skipped out on a good chunk of movies.

This being piled on was as predictable as night and day. I'll still give it a watch for the cast.

Pretty much.

I can't remember the last time I used RT to make a decision on whether or not I see a movie.

No ****, guys...

Whether this gets raving or mediocre reviews, ultimately it will take me a lot of convincing to watch a movie coming from a problematic person like DOR.

So sounds like you had no intention of seeing it to begin with.

Good to see this flopping - maybe will dissuade future stars from helping Russell prop up his career. Was never going to see it in theaters anyway, though - ain't giving that goon any of my money.
Other than being a massive jerk, what has he done that's so bad? Honest question.

I think it's totally rad when a guy admits to sexually assaulting his teenage niece (but remember, she was acting "provocative"), receives no punishment, and people take the brave stand of standing up to RT when it comes to deciding whether they will or won't watch that guy's movie.

Didn't realize seeing a film based on a score being high or low was 'standing up' to anything any more than folks deciding not to see a film is them standing up to a director they've never met or interacted with to stick it to them for stuff they've done.

Then again, we're all just big internet tough guys and gals on a superhero forum in the end.

Internet tough guy behavior is when you see someone brag about ignoring mask mandates in movie theaters as thousands die a day. It's not celebrating the potential downfall of a sexual predator's career. I'd simply file that under basic human decency.

If someone wants to be "I'm in it for the art" guy when they know they're supporting the career of a sexual assaulter? That's their choice. But getting snippy with someone who shows some glee at the potential failing of a monstrous individual's film? What is the purpose of that? It's not like it isn't obvious why people are happy with the RT score so far. Why it's being brought up. We all know what he did and complaining about those who draw the line at abuse against women and trans people, is a choice.

I find David O Russell extremely overrated and the dude is a massive POS

Yeah. I mean I'm not seeing the movie because of O Russell and his repeated bad behavior and allegations but it's gotten really tiring on the Hype especially and parts of the net in general the amount of grand standing due to the large amount of hypocrisy and choosing battles.

I get not seeing something because of problematic stuff but a lot of these same people who make a big deal of "I'm not going to consume (insert product or media here) because (insert problematic thing here)" will go around and for example watch the NFL (sexism, homophobia, racism), eat at Chick Fil A (homophobia), listen to Eminem (homophobia, sexism, domestic violence), and/or watch Tom Hardy (physically intimidating a woman and general jerkiness on multiple sets) which is just silly and weird. The number of people who say they won't listen to Chris Brown and make a big fuss of it but then will listen to multiple known abusers is insane.

And I'm a hypocrite too. Like I won't watch this movie but of course I've watched movies or listen to music by people who are known to be "bad." I'm not trying to be holier than thou...but I just don't get why pat yourself on the back or try and make it out like your doing something special or dunking on a problematic person (particularly online) especially when these same people patting themselves on the back will support things like Disney, Amazon, or some of the things I mentioned above which are just a problematic, if not moreso, than a lot of these actors people think they're "standing up" against.

Again I'm not watching this and I get why others don't and this isn't me trying to be one of the those "who cares separate the artist from the art" people. But the grandstanding and "dunking" on the movie is just silly.

Pretty much.

Never understood this either. Every time a movie comes out and is getting a bad RT score some people always want to pat themselves on the back on why they don't care about RT or how they make up their own minds.

It's just like

...but it is what it is

So reading the reviews, it looks like how the trailers made it out to be. An awkward mess of tone and characters. O Russell hasn't been good since The Fighter imo so this isn't surprising.

I will fully admit I was wrong. If you look at previous posts I said that this is a PR nightmare waiting to happen award season due to O Russell. But this movie doesn't seem like it'll make a big enough dent for anyone to care about the PR surrounding this haha

This will be a rental for me. Eh, Bale film choices post Dark Knight have been simply bland. Yeah, he gained all that weight to play Cheney, but for what? Nothin. lawd.

What happens in the meadow at dusk?

Bland? The Big Short, Hostiles, Ford v Ferrari... can't agree there.
Also The Fighter, Flowers of War, American Hustle, Vice. Bale has some great roles, even if some of the movies themselves are not always great.

27% start on RT.

Shame - as the cast for this was exceptional. I guess I will wait for the blu-ray.

I only just saw the trailer for this last week and didn't realize how stacked the cast was. If it's as bad as the reviews say and it bombs then I feel bad for the cast but schadenfreude for David O. Russell. :o

Why feel bad for the cast that is cool with sexual assault? None of these actors are hard up. They didn't need this work to eat.

Damn trailer looked bad but I didn't expect it to be in the 30s with a 5/10 average score.

On a semi related note, I didn't realize Taylor Swift was in it. She's been trying to breakout in films for a while, but homegirl can't pick a movie to save her life lol. Maybe she should stick to her very well off music career.

They'll be alright. O Russell needed this not them which is what confuses me for why they did it.
