David O. Russell's "Joy" (Jennifer Lawrence)

He's only actually been relevant for the past four or so years, and those three last films are half of his filmography, and we act like he's in the big leagues and is one of our top-tier directors.

I somewhat like Jennifer Lawrence, but I feel the same way about her too. Everyone acts like she's this untouchable royalty and is the modern Meryl Streep, and all I notice is that she's generally irritating in interviews and has had a lackluster career. She's been in like 10 movies, lol.

Winter's Bone
The Beaver
X-Men: First Class
The Hunger Games
Silver Linings Playbook
House at the End of the Street
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire
American Hustle
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Serena
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1

^ Wow! I can't even comprehend the unfathomable talent!

I completely forgot she was in that one

You can also count me as one of those who thinks Lawrence comes off as kind of annoying.

She's a great actress but there was a certain point when I did find her somewhat annoying, and that was at the Oscars a year or two ago. It felt like she was too self-aware of her clumsiness/awkwardness. It was cute at first but, come on. And it sucks that when Kristen Stewart is awkward, she gets 'shamed' for it.

But I think Jen needs a break.

Jen is cute clumsy. Kristen is just awkward. Some girls can pull it off some can't.

And Lawrence wiping Doritos stained fingers on her dress for American Hustle. Isn't it a rule for actors not to eat in costume? I mean even if that wasn't the case, it's pretty disrespectful of the people who worked hard on that costume.

But she's Jennifer Lawrence. It's obviously ok because she eats Doritos like we do. :o

Yeah, it's stuff like that that makes me think she's trying too hard. I think she's a pretty good actress, but the personality she displays in interviews and whatnot is just a bit too much for me.

Wiping doritos on dress is definitely trying too hard. Us "normies" don't wipe dorito-stained fingers on our cheap clothes. Much less expensive Oscar worthy apparel.

I just watched it for the first time. I don't care if the actor is wrong or not, a director does not act like that on set or treat an actor like that. I get even if you're having a bad day or you're angry, you're still the director.

My dislike for some of his films aside, this goes for anyone.

David orussell- you're acting like a kid!

Knocks prop over
:whatever:

There's another video with tomlin and Dustin Hoffman. Hoffman is stuck in the middle of the car while tomlin shouts obscenities

Both occurring during "I heart huckebee"

Maybe an assistant of hers or some studio lackey runs her page.

While they all haven't been great films, I'd say having done 10 films by the age of 24 is still an accomplishment.

Personally, I'm not a huge J-Law guy at all.

But... Ten films, two big franchises, an Oscar win and another nomination, largely considered one of the most loved/biggest stars on the planet for the last four or five years. And she's only 24.

Yeah. "Lackluster" doesn't quite fit.

There is an issue of 'projecting' as well. People sometimes gets a little JELLY when it comes to young scarlet like J-Law, and dare I mention Lena Duhnam?

Two big franchises, an Oscar, and another nomination by the time you're 24 is a pretty bizarre definition of a "lackluster" career.

Yeah, it's a wrongheaded way to look at a 24 year old's career. I guess if you want an opinion on an actor, never look at the internet, haha. I guess my point is that, no one's forcing anyone to like a certain actor, but give credit where credit is due. It's about perspective. With my, I accidentally stumbled upon J-Law when I saw Winter's Bone a few years ago, and I was so happy to see her grow into a superstar that she is today. That was my experience: Seeing a flower bloom, so there's a certain, and very specific attachment to someone like her.

Also, I was told by an old timer that Clint Eastwood was considered a 'bad' actor back in the day. Now we see him as this legend. Time is a funny thing.

When you're successful everyone gets sick of you. It becomes cool to tear you down a peg. Especially on sites like this one.

It is. I kinda wish people were more perspective on that sort of thing.

Yep, people are funny that way. The Meryl Streep comparisons are a bit weird, but Jennifer definitely earned her success.

Comparing Lawrence to Streep is pretty extreme in the opposite direction, and to me just as silly as saying she somehow has a lackluster career (which is just blatantly false.

I'm not even the biggest Streep fan, and think she's overrated herself half the time, but so far I haven't seen anything from Lawrence to justify comparisons to Streep.

It's not jealousy. It's puzzlement that an actress with such clear limitations has had an unprecedentedly meteoric rise and seems to be fawned over by most of the American population simply because she, like, burps and stuff. I saw Winter's Bone in theaters, came out thinking she was fine but not Oscar-worthy (as opposed to John Hawkes), and so this Lawrence mania is quite galling.

But you're comparing a 50 something year old character actor to a 23 year old actress. Give her time, but I don't think it's worth being puzzled about her. I do think she's getting a little over exposed at the moment but hey, strike when the iron is hot right? Or you'll end up being like Leelee Sobieski.

Rooney Mara. Now there's a talented young actress. I would have preferred to see half the roles of Lawrence going to her instead. Granted, I can't fault Lawrence for being a good actress and having a great agent. Of course they're going to capitalize on her success, who in their right mind wouldn't?

However, doesn't mean I think the're that great.

The title to this thread should be changed to:

Jennifer Lawrence to star in every new David O. Russell film

Well it seems like every time she's in one of his movies, she gets an Oscar nomination/win. So why wouldn't she keep working with him. It's like Leonardo Dicaprio with Martin Scorsese, or Christoph Waltz with Quentin Tarantino.

Which is amazing since I thought that the whole point WAS to try and be as successful as possible in your chosen career path. You'd better believe that if these same people had lots of success in their own careers, they'd be living it up. Heck if they somehow became movie stars, then all of those complaints about "overexposure" would all of a sudden become "mean and petty."

Come to think of it, "amazing" isn't the right word for this trend. "PATHETIC" is more accurate.
