I don't like snarky reviews like that because it comes across like the reviewer was planning to hate the movie before hand. If you've got genuine beefs with the film be professional enough to write it in a way that doesn't make you sound childish.

Oh, Andrew O'Hehir. Yeah. You expect it from him at this point. Kind of like the other Screen International review. No harm done though. At this point the movie will finish with an above 90% score. 2-2 for FOX this summer.

The system encourages snakiness. Critics get one snarky quote on the RT page if they're lucky.

Just got back from an early screening. This is the kind of blockbuster we need!!! Fantastic! Also there is one really awesome long take that you normally don't see in non-Curoun blockbusters.

Following on from my review last night - Sure enough, the more the movie settles in, the more it gets to me. I woke up thinking about Caesar. This is a genuinely great character. His development has been exceptional. The whole third act... :( I'm probably going to watch this movie again on Tuesday.

Having watched the film even if you don't care for the story, or even if you feel it's too depressing, you're going to struggle to say the film is actually badly made or unambitious. I don't see the critical response to this dropping below 95% with an 8/10 average.

Somebody will do it. There's always a few on boards. I have no idea what they'd latch onto to be able to do that, but there'll be some ****. Just part and parcel of it.

I know a film is good when I'm trying to fall asleep and it's all I can think about, as happened last night.

Reading all the reactions here is making the wait for next Thursday a hell of a lot worse :csad:

Unless RT is saving all the negative reviews for last I think this has a good chance at above 94%.

Seeing this tonight! 10 PM screening, can't wait!

So for those that have seen it; does it indeed feel as though the titles of the two movies should be switched around - where this should have been called Rise and the previous movie Dawn…?

I don't think it really matters one way or the other to be honest. I could make the argument that Rise actually does work for the last film as it could pertain to the apes rising up for their freedom, whilst for this one Dawn could pertain to the dawning of a new world, lets not forget that the apes and humans are still separate societies at this point in the history. Either way both films are about two different beginnings and as such I'm not sure what other title could have been used that would have fit this story.

So what are we guessing for opening weekend for this? The first did just shy of $55M. I think this can do Star Trek reboot numbers and take in $75M.

Considering everything has under performed this summer, I'm going with 40-60.

I wouldn't consider it a let down given how well the last film held. It had a 3.2 multiplier. So far, Maleficent is the only film this summer to have a multiplier above 3.0... Given the lack of competition, I'd like to think Dawn can hold just as well as the last film.

It would certainly be disappointing if it opened around $60M only since that's barely an increase over the previous and that one didn't have 3D(IIRC).

A few films have or will hit 3.0 multiplier and the closest comparison is EoT. But not really considering how low that movie opened.

Speaking of the 3D...was it shot or post converted?

I guess I answered my own question...3D it is.

Well I saw the movie in 3D and personally I didn't really feel like it enhanced anything. But I do agree that it didn't detract from the movie so much that I hardly noticed it.

Tis how I felt about DoFP. Shot in 3D but it didn't add or take away anything for me. I'll stick to 2D for this one...

That's my go to choice for every movie I watch.
