As far as DC Characters in the DC Universe who I think could match up with Thanos possibly even defeat him in one on one hand to hand combat are:

Kal El (Son of Krypton) (Clark Kent) Superman himself
Doctor Manhattan of The Watchmen
Bruce Wayne/Batman (with Prep Time)
Darkseid
Spectre
Brainiac
Wonder Woman (with Prep Time)
Green Lantern

I'd rank those in four classes:

Strong possibility: Doc Manhattan, Spectre

50/50: Superman

Doubtful: Darkseid, Brainiac, Wonder Woman, any Green Lantern

And since the IG is beyond any and all human technology, prep time isn't going to matter in Batman's case. He would have to have help, and lots of it.

Have you ever read a comic with Spectre in it? He's a godlike character who regularly possesses reality-manipulating powers similar to those of a fully-formed Infinity Gauntlet.

I've read some, but I never considered him on a Thanos wielding Infinity Gauntlet level. Manhattan I'm more convinced could take him, but you can make the point.

In the JLA/Avengers crossover '03-'04, he effectively pushed the DC and Marvel universes apart. That's far beyond the power level of the IG.

Unfortunately, it isn't the easiest story to find, especially at a reasonable price. I might be wrong, but I don't think it's ever been reprinted in a collected volume. You might find it on Youtube or another video sharing site.
