SURVEY IS CLOSED AS OF 12/12/2017

Survey is here: https://goo.gl/forms/gfY31oJhmj7ojyMy1

Good day,

I am conducting a survey to find out audience sentiments towards the DCEU while also examining if age, sex and online communities explain some variances in opinions. Issues included are Snyder's vision, Whedon's decisions, Batfleck as well as casual and critical ratings of the films.

Edit: As of 12/7/2017 Respondents are 733, 11% coming from SHH.

Other notes:

The survey has M/F as demographics.
One question Light vs Dark tones is asked with no middle option.

I aim to close this survey as soon as Tumblr and Reddit hits the 30%+ share or if I gathered 1000 respondents. Results will be posted in the DC films thread as soon as late December or delayed to early January.

Been here a long time, don't post much anymore, but thought the survey was well done.....I prefer the darker, more graphic novel approach to DC films, and I'm also open to different interpretations, such as Gotham.

So with that said, I really need to see Snyder's JL cut, LOL.

When can we expect to see the results.

Late December or Early January. So 2-5 weeks from now. It really depends on how many respondents I ended up wi 4th.

Thank you! Every respondent is a delight as a survey is meaningless with a small sample size.

Same here. I filled out the survey as well.

Nice.........I find it a tad ridiculous that, for some reason, you're not allowed to enjoy different interpretations or a Batman that kills for the greater good, but that's just me.

I think it’s that many people (not me or you) want a modern Chris-Reeve-style set of happy-go-lucky, kid-friendly JL films—with modern special effects and filmmaking sensibilities—before they’ll be ready and willing to accept a departure from that restrictive vision. I think that’s especially true of parents with small children, but it’s also true of the general audience who has never seen the breadth of the darker side of DC.

The first graphic novel I ever read was Greg Rucka’s No Man’s Land. My father read it to me as a young boy. It was gritty and dark, and I loved every moment.

The first superhero movie I ever saw was Superman ‘78. The second was Batman ‘89. I loved both of them, and watched them over and over as a kid, and then I grew up and saw their flaws and wanted something more ambitious, something that tried to contend with what these heroes would mean in a real world. Something that would take them seriously, take their emotions and their ethical conflicts seriously, and try to address these earnestly.

MOS and BvS gave me a taste of that. But if the third act of JL is a sign of what’s to come, I’ll have to be happy with those films, and be ready to check out of the DCEU.

Exactly - I don't need to see the MCU here, BvS UC was great, but it's what I like......plus, I was IN THE UC CUT of the film as a Police Officer!

Exactly—the MCU is sprawling, there are enough of those films already.

Very cool!

Can i say I was rooting for the 'realistic' and gritty DCU to succeed as a contrast to the jokey and light MCU. I liked the visuals and tone of MoS and BvS, I just didn't like the pacing, structure and scripts. So DC took all the elements I liked and flushed it in an attempt to be more like Marvel rather than try to fix what worked for them.
Good job WB and DC. Good job.

Good day,

I am conducting a survey to find out audience sentiments towards the DCEU while also examining if age, sex and online communities explain some variances in opinions. Issues included are Snyder's vision, Whedon's decisions, Batfleck as well as casual and critical ratings of the films.

As of 12/6/2017, there are 615 respondents. 48% from Tumblr and 44% from DCEU Reddit sub, the rest from other sources.
M/F split is around 58/42. People who consider themselves DCEU fans are around 85%. I hope to diversify my respondents by posting here.

Other notes:

If you have suggestions on how to expand the demographic pool to non-DCEU fans I will appreciate it. Thanks!
about done.

but what kinda of questions are these???!!!

How do you feel about the darker, deconstructive and more violent approach to Superman's story in Snyder's work?
How acceptable is Batman killing people in the DCEU?

the questions themselves are negative and complaining!!! and telling the lies on the movies and the director's works!!!

I ran a beta test in one of the most Snyder biased places in the internet and they were okay with this.

These are not negative. MoS has muted colors, killed Pa Kent and snapped Zod's neck. BvS deconstructs Superman using the idea of a false god. It is darker and more violent than past Superman films, even considering animated ones.

As for Batman, I fail to see how the question is a complaint.

Or the question asking which type of film was favored, with the options being like:

a) a fun film that appeals to all ages equally
b) a film that panders to adults who want to see a serious take on comic-book heroes

When “pander” is an inherently negative verb meaning “indulge an immoral or distasteful desire.”

So yeah, there’s definite bias in the wording, but I doubt the wording will influence the survey results. The respondents know what the questions are trying to ask, even with that visible slant.

Thanks for the comment, it shows I need to consult a dictionary and be more careful. Changed it to "darker and designed to focus on an adult demographic"

Edit: If there are biased wordings I would appreciate if respondents would specify why it is so and I would welcome suggestions on how to make them more neutral.

didn't batman kill in all his previous movies??? a question of "How acceptable is batman killing people in the dceu?" is implying that he didn't kill in any of his previous movies, but he was changed in DCEU. which is a lie.

"...the darker, deconstructive and more violent approach to Superman's story in Snyder's work?" is like saying that superman in DCEU is a dark, mad, angry and violent hero, who would eliminate anyone blocking his way without mercy. which is a lie.

1. The question assumes Batman in the context of the DCEU,
it addresses a controversy that is present to the current universe. It is up to the respondents to find it acceptable or not depending on their knowledge of Batman. If I noted that Batman has prior history of killing, then wouldn't it be leading respondents to adjust their sentiments based on a selective information? How do you suggest I phrase this question?

2. You read the sentence differently than it intended. The adjectives refer to approach of story-telling, not Superman. I based "violent and dark" from parental guides and media boards giving age recommendations. How do you suggest I phrase this question?
