Spoilers for the Flashpoint storyline

The main synopsis of Flashpoint is that in an attempt to change the past Barry Allen creates a drastically different present. However while he is able to "correct the timeline" he only does so in a general sense. The old DC comics universe wasn't brought back, it was rebooted into the New 52 universe.

Could Flashpoint be used to change any continuity in the DCEU, and what would you expect to be changed?

It certainly could be. Once Justice League and Aquaman are out there WB/DC can see how much or how little change is needed. I suspect not too much tbh. But the options are there if they need them.

Flashpoint works for WB/DC in a number of ways.

1. It's a ready-made fix/reboot for the DCEU if they decide they need it;

2. It provides roles for other characters that the public enjoy seeing (no shoehorning of Batman, Wonder Woman - they're already there in the source material);

3. Flashpoint was Geoff Johns' baby and he's already on hand and up to his armpits in the DCEU;

Plus, IMO it's a darn good story in it's own right.

Have to say ideally I'd have liked at least one true solo outing for the Flash first but I can see why WB/DC have gone with this.

I expect as much important continuity "changes" as from the CW FLASHPOINT which is to say... None for all intents and puposes.

Flashpoint sets the DCEU right

I suspect the "changes" will be in film, creating a universe well outside the status quo and Flash will have to set things right. I don't know how much it will change about the DCEU as it stands going into the film. I suppose it could be used to retcon things if they really wanted to.

It's an option to use it in that way if they wish - they may well decide they don't want to. Flashpoint stands as it's own thing anyway (as Johns originally intended). I've watched the animated movie Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox twice in the last few days. If they can approach that level I'll be happy.

The DCEU Flashpoint would be an opportunity to really mix-n-match elseworlds since the animated movie, which I'm assuming is fairly close to the source, at best does what Timm did for Gods & Monsters as was the case for Batman + Superman and at worst just has Crime Syndicate versions of Leaguers (WW and Aquaman). Although, it would be pretty cool if that's how they bring in the harpoon for a hand.

The ideal situation would be getting to flesh out the Knightmare sequence and see how that Injustice world came to be as much as we can already piece together that puzzle. I would love to bring back Col. Nathan Hardy and Faora that way.

The animated movie is very faithful to the CB. There are a few things they changed but I can see why, given the relatively short run-time they had and the fact that not everyone watching the movie would be familiar with some lesser-known characters. There were a couple of things they took out that I wish they'd left in, but on the whole I thought they did a great job.

I would love to bring back Col. Nathan Hardy and Faora...

If there was some way of bringing Hardy and Faora back to the DCEU I'd be on board :up:

It could, but I don't think it should. Time Travel within the DCEU shouldn't work like it does on the CW. The DCEU are big blockbusters, and changing their continuity ruins said continuity.

I don't mind Barry creating another timeline for the events of Flashpoint, but I do very much feel that our current timeline needs to be re-established once all is said and done. I guess I wouldn't mind subtle changes, but nothing significant.

I think Flashpoint well the whole concept of time travel could work especially if they go about it the right way.

Guessing younger Batman and Batman v. Superman either not happening or happening completely differently.

Has there been any confirmation that the Flash movie will still be based on Flashpoint? I've seen speculation in articles online that it may not be after the reception of Justice League.

As far as I know, it's on indefinite hold; I guess DC/WB want to see the reception of Aquaman, Wonder Woman 2 and Shazam before they look at producing anything else right now.

The whole Flash solo initially was supposed to be a dual film between Barry & Victor IIRC, then the news was we were getting individual films for the two of them, then (I think at a comic-con) it was stated (officially) that they were doing a Flashpoint film, and then some months ago there was an article released (I forget where) that stated the script had been revived and wasn't going to be Flashpoint, but instead back to the second concept of just a Flash solo.

...so yeah, I don't think anyone actually knows what's going on just yet!

Gotcha! Thanks! :up:

I was thinking about this the other day. Flash is way too young to affect the changes that happened in the comics.

Do you mean in terms of age, or how long he's been active as the Flash?

Age. He's obviously way younger than Bruce so, anything he changes wouldn't affect the Wayne family.

That's an interesting point I've not seen brought up before. I guess it would depend on how far those time-ripples extend! :cwink:
