didnt superman die by the hands of doomsday like 14 years ago?? and he got reborn into a bunch of new ones?? whatver happend to the new guys?? and how come hes back now??

:supes:

the new guys were all fakes...one was an evil robot, one was a guy who just had similar powers from an accident, one was a clone, and one was Steel who was just a guy in a suit...the real superman wasnt actually dead, but in a state that mirrored death while his concsiousness was in another deminsion fighting something or other, and then he came back and kicked all of the new guys asses and took back over.

nice , thanks... now if u can go over to the spidey comics posts an answer for that one too lol.

Superman was actually dead. Brain activity stopped? Check. Heart rate stopped? Check. Rigor mortis? Check.

The Eradicator was the one that did the job of resurrecting him, as far as I know. It didn't happen under Superman's own power. He was, in every sense of the word, beaten to death - real death, not the fake death that many people claim. That state was brought on by the Eradicator, unless I'm misremembering it.

after Jason Todd came back to life, Batman went to talk to Superman about the time he was dead. Superman said he was in a state that mirrored death, not actual death. The end.

Ah, I just love how DC seems so hellbent on retconning their continuity around Superman so much lately.

Not the end. It was heavily implied in that very story that the whole "state that mirrored death" thing was just what Clark convinced himself as to what happened because it was easier to wrap his head around than actually dying and being resurected.

Well, actually....I think that convo with Bats was odd. Superman didn't seem to really know for sure wheter or not he was dead.

I mean.....Superman isn't human, so alot of things go out the window for him. Him being in a state that mirrors death, I'd buy it.....dude's from Krypton.

Now, what was the Eradicator's job exactly? I've heard he was there in place, by Jor-El, to essentially protect Superman....or something....

I don't. He died. All of his major organs stopped working. Rigor mortis set in. Whatever the hell energy that powers the bodies of life forms and makes them sentient went by by. The whole "state that mirrored death" thing was something he convinced himself of since he couldn't wrap his head around the idea of him having died and been resurected.

The Eradicator was an old Kryptonian weapon of war. It was jetisoned ibto space when Krypton abolished their military forces. It found it's way to Earth when it sensed Clark's ship. It came to Eath, took on a humanoid form, and tried to recreate the cloclwork order and near sociological perfection of Krypton. However, it took Krypton centuries to reach that level. Earth was nowhere near ready for it. So, he decided to force the change. Clark oposed him and defeated him, but not before the early stages of his transformation of Earth hadn't begun in the North Pole, resulting in the Fortress of Solitude. He later came back in a form similar to Superman's and took his place after he died, and even later fused with a human scientist.

Yeah, I'd have to check my issue....but I think his convo with Bats seemed to imply that it was Superman's way of coping with the trauma.

I've heard that Eradicator brought Superman back to life with massive amounts of ultraviolet light....or something. That what happened?

He used some weird Kryptonian technology. He said that it only worked because the circumstances were just perfect and that it probably wouldn't work a second time.

i thought that cadmus stole supe's body from his toomb and kelex brought him back to the fortress and put him into a rebirthing matrix pod. the eradicator went into the toomb and absorbed superman's likeness. cyborg came in contact with superman's birthing matrix and copied his dna(that's why he looked like superman) superboy is a clone created by cadmus, and steel was a steel worker that was saved by superman and he felt that he could honor superman by cleaning up the city. none of the 4 "supermen" was superman. so are you guys saying that infinite crisis rebooted his whole death? like it never happened? that's such a slap in the face of everyone.

no that all happened still, it's just debateable whether during that time period he was actually dead, or just in a state that mirrored death...it really could be either...I always took it as a mirrored death state, sort of like when a recharageable battery runs out...but from what I've seen here, he could have actually been dead too...really up for you to decide I guess

Still, with Infinite Crisis' changes in reality (the fact that Birthright now seems to be the definite origin for Superman), it would be interesting to see how Superman would remember the circumstances that created the Cyborg.

The character was written with Byrne's version of Kryptonian technology in mind. Without the birthing matrix anywhere in continuity, I don't see how the Cyborg Superman can exist in continuity with Birthright as the new canon origin instead of MOS.

Birthright isnt the official origin. In fact DC has said that it's officially NOT the official origin. I loved Birthright, but it's not in continuity. MOS isn't either though. They're doing a new origin, or so I've heard, sometime this year.

He was dead as far as I'm concerned.
"State that mirrored death" sounds like Superman covering his ass.

i think he was dead. remember when pa kent had a heart attack and was basically dead or in a coma? he saw superman when he was comatose and right when he awoke the reign of the supermen began. it couldn't have been a coincidence. that really doesn't support that he died. sorry. i basically said that he was bound to return.

That's after Infinite Crisis. Before IC, they were making references to Birthright left and right. Now everything's nuts. Hopefully DC can sort this out, but if the way things are going so far for the state of Superman's continuity is any indication of what they're going to do in the future origin story, I'm not getting my hopes up.

If they're going to start randomly poking holes in what certain characters have and haven't done and what they can and can't do, they might as well just start continuity over from scratch. It'd be much less confusing and frustrating, and it's proven that it can be successful in the past.
