Thought it should get its own thread. So it's happening. I'm normally not too fussed at initial announcements at Marvel movies anymore but this one made me really giddy!

One thing to note is that the director Tim Miller has only directed short films as well as did the visual effects of Scott Pilgrim and The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo's opening titles so could it be a CGI Deadpool like the leak?

I'm in with two conditions.

1.Ryan Reynolds is back as Deadpool.
2.Its Rated R

I mean I'll see it regardless, Deadpool is my favorite mutant but one can hope.

I wonder if the success of GOTG has anything to do with Fox's sudden announcement for a Deadpool movie after it has been in the back burner for several years.

The overall positive feedback of the once leaked test footage probably helped too.

I thought Deadpool wasn't a mutant. Didn't he get his powers artificially?

I say lets replace The Faketastic Four forum with the Deadpool one. At least that forum would be a hell of a lot more positive lol

Deadpool isn't a mutant, but he appeared in an X-Men comic first so that's why I think Fox got his movie rights.

Excellent news! :woot:

Let's party.

Yeah, that's what I knew but I was responding to KDM1986's remark that Deadpool was his favorite mutant.

I've been saying for years &years that this project still needs to happen so I'm glad it FINALLY is! Was really looking forward to seeing Reynolds as Deadpool in something more faithful to the character than XOW so I'm glad that idea was still on the table & is gonna happen.

I smell another superhero hit on the way. :D

my buddy isn't into superheroes too much, but he LOVES Deadpool, it's the only comic he reads, he'll be happy about this.

I saw GL with that same friend and he has hated Reynolds since, but i think everyone can agree that he's perfect for Deadpool

3. Deadpool is not a mutant in the movie.

Deadpool is not a mutant. Well not born one anyway. I know in the Wolvie Origins movie they said he was, but he is not. The Weapon X Project gave him his powers. He was just a normal human looking to get rid of his cancer.

My face hurts and I can't stop giggling like a small child. I have bruises from dancing wildly about and colliding with furniture. I have skinned every knuckle against ceiling and walls from waving my arms uncontrollably like Grover. Yes, that Grover. These are all good things. Feels like the Giants won the Super Bowl. Again.

Today,
I consider myself,
the luckiest man on the face of the Earth.

*giggles s'more*

Yeah I know he isn't a mutant, I should of said he is my favorite x-men character.

Do you think, with Marvel's permission, they'll actually have Deadpool mention the MCU as a joke?

I cannot see them NOT making Deadpool a mutant. They made Viper and Yukio mutants, they made Juggernaut a mutant, they already made Deadpool a mutant in Origins, etc. From their perspective, it just simplifies things.

Yeah, but this is an actual Deadpool movie, they don't need to simplify his origin when he's the main character, so I can't say I buy your reasoning in the slightest, those examples were supporting characters, so simplifying makes sense, but for the life of me I can't see how you figure they'd want to simplify the main character, especially when his story is interesting and very much worth telling and not especially complicated to begin with.

I hope so, he should be allowed to reference anything and everything. If they can't get the rights they should have him mention their inability to get the rights to tell said jokes.

I really don't think this needs to be rated R. Dead pool can still be Deadpool even without excessive gore and "F-bombs".
