Digital camera photos question

I want to get some pics off my camera to my computer and it gives me all the pics with checkmarks beside them and says only the pics with checkmarks will be copied.
Now i only want some specific ones for now and add the rest later so if i take check off the ones i want will it delete the ones i havent checked off from the card?

How are pics deleted off of the card?

Probably depends on the camera.....for me I simply plug the card into the computer, click on My Computer and then click on the actual external card.....edit copy from the card and paste to the desktop...that'll leave the pics on the card.....ensure you don't use "cut"....cutting will delete the pics off the card.....
