Director's Cut in theaters for July

Now that most of us have seen the movie, and we know what made it into the final cut, we can start to speculate on what didn't make it.

Supposedly the director's cut is about 30-40 minutes longer, right? That's not including Black Freighter or the Bernie scenes. We know 10 of those minutes are Hollis Mason's death, and Dan's reaction. What else? I kinda hope there's some more of Rorschach with the psychiatrist, maybe the Kitty Genovese stuff. Also, some more of Manhattan's flashback on Mars. There was a whole lot of that chapter that didn't make it, like his father throwing out the cogs, or the stuff with Kennedy, meeting him, then knowing about his death ahead of time.

The film came out over here today - midnight in some places, but I won't be seeing it till tomorrow night.
Inevitably there are scenes not in the final movie - but the geek in me was hoping they'd film everything to be included in a definitive DVD version - with the option of adding the Black Freighter sequences too...

Well, they showed Manhattan with Kennedy in the opening credits, but I'm really hoping some more of his flashbacks make it into the director's cut, too. I think they did have more (case in point: the shot of Jon turning the nuclear missile into falling leaves was not in the film), but due to time constraints, they needed to cut it down. As far as Jon's flashbacks go, I hope that the director's cut includes Jon meeting some of the Watchmen, like Ozymandias and The Comedian, talking with Hollis Mason, out on patrol with Laurie (before they kiss), giving Janey the earrings, handling the riots with Laurie, and perhaps most importantly, visiting Veidt at Karnak. I hope it was filmed, because it seems like Bubastis should get more backstory in the director's cut. This is all just wishful thinking, but I'm sure there'll be more of the Doc on Mars.

And the director's cut needs to include Rorschach's origin: how he got the mask and how he responded to Kitty Genovese's murder. Also, it'd be nice to see Rorschach's response to the Keene Act: the dead multiple rapist with the "Never!" note attached to him.

Why does it need to be more violent? I just want more scenes that they left out...

I've never been to New York before, but I think I've finally found a reason to go.

hollis masons death
dans reaction
extended scenes of manhattan on mars
hollis talking to sally on the phone

i hope there is extended comedian diolague in the DC, I wished the 'conversation' dan and him had during the riots was in the movie and it would flesh out his character better. and plus i wanna hear 'john god damn walking h bomb osterman' lol

I might wait for this instead of watching the watered down version..

Hopefully it will be shown in IMAX in July so I can go see it 2nd time.

One of the things that I really hope make into the Director's Cut is more of a background as to why exactly Laurie hated the Comedian. The whole subplot felt so incredibly brushed over.

From what Zack has said, the Director's Cut (minus Black Freighter) is going to be almost 3 and a half hours long. This means roughly 40 to 50 minutes of extra footage.

So, aside from Hollis Mason's death and the ensuing beating of a gang member in the bar by Nite Owl, what other scenes do we know of so far that will included in the director's cut?

I coulda sworn he said 190 minutes (3 hours and 10 minutes) without Black Freighter. And 205 minutes (3 hours, 25 minutes) with Black Freighter.

I believe there is a scene where Laurie goes back to Rockefellar after Manhattan is framed. As well as several more scenes with the Bernies.

All i know is that judging from the theatrical cut, the Lesbian fight and Malcom Long's home life won't be in the film. That goes for Long's involvement with trying to break up the fight as well. Disappointing.

Oh yeah, perhaps that was it then.

So more like 30 minutes of additional scenes.

If Black Freighter is coming to DVD befor ethe movie, will it really only be 15 minutes long? I can't imagine it being terribly long, but still.

Well, according to a pic of the back of the Blu-ray box, it's 26 minutes.

Exactly, I felt this too.

Also, the two Bernies. I felt nothing when they embraced during the explosion, yes I understand, but it just looked odd because we don't see anything with them, and these two strangers, (from what we think and see) are suddenly embracing like they've known eachother. I may be looking forward to that the most, because that embrace is the most touching thing to me in the GN.

More Veidt screentime?

I noticed the "Evil must be punished" line was cut.

I think that 15 minutes of the "Black Freighter" animated movie will consist of all of the material from the GN, and the remaining 10 minutes will consist of added material to the story (like the Mariner talking to his first mate) that will only be on the "Black Freighter" DVD. So the Ultimate Watchmen DVD will only include the bits of "Black Freighter" that were in the GN.

Another line that was cut from the movie was The Comedian's "Justice is coming to all of us. No matter what the **** we do."

ive heard that they are wanting to put it in theaters for other cities

what is going to be show in "under the hood" and how long will that be i wonder.
