Discussion: Global Warming and Other Environmental Issues

Now THIS is interesting. You consistently support your argument with things that at least make a little sense. Unlike certain others....

I'll be very interested to see if anything further comes from this report.
Thanks... *shy*

This thing is like a cult.

Much less of a cult then the religious right you probably associate with, or whose views you've absorbed.

Global warming is an outdated term.
Climate change is more appropriate, the fact that there are record cold temperatures points to an abnormality in and of itself.

Here in Montreal the weather has been quite sporadic, I've lived it for 23 years now, and I can say with confidence that I don't recall so many switches from freezing to pouring rain in the middle of January and February.

What is the benefit in so militantly denying climate change, writing it off as a joke and a creation of Gore.

It has much deeper implications then politics. The world goes through many temperate cycles, some of them can be extreme sudden shifts, but the fact of the matter remains that human activity has the very real potential of speeding said processes up.

We are playing a foolish game of chicken with the environment.
I wonder whose gonna win?

Oh my god, it's cold in January! What a shocking revelation! I barely have the energy to call you an idiot, Slim.

Thanks... *shy*
Followed a link from the same site:

"There has been no 'erasure'. This is an anomaly with a large magnitude, and it coincides with other anecdotal weather evidence. It is curious, it is unusual, it is large, it is unexpected, but it does not “erase” anything. I suggested a correction to DailyTech and they have graciously complied."

This was in response to the idea that the warming has been, "erased," and the effects reversed.

Still, like the guy says, it's anomalous, and it's simply really weird. I'm really not sure what to make of it, even WITH currently predicted models. I mean, I'm no expert of course, but this doesn't really fit in with my own general ideas/understanding of the phenomenon.

So, it's a "grain of salt" scenario, but again it's extremely interesting.

What is it that George Carlin says, something like, mother nature will shake us humans off like fleas.

Wait a minute. Aren't you the one who's been saying how full of crap scientists are in the Huckabee thread, Slim? So are they only full of crap when they don't support your beliefs, or what? Because now you're in here with "scientific data" (never mind that it's incomplete and already been debunked by Shark Boy, even though you dismissed him with an oh so sciencey "you've got nothing") using it to back up one of your beliefs. Does not compute, Slim.

Well ...Mr. Jags.....if you took the time to even read some of my recent posts, I said that science is good. It has it's place. It makes life grand. :woot: But I also said that science is not perfect!!!!:nono:

Which place this whole debate right in that ball park! :funny: The ice was melting and now it's thicker again!

computes rather well....

And this somehow proves to you that climate change is fallacious?
How.

He basically confirmed what I said: When science supports his beliefs it's good, when it doesn't then it's bad. Pretty simple.

1) Antarctic ice. Not Arctic ice. Your ability to selectively ignore evidence that doesn't support your argument is astounding.

2) "Thicker," than it has been since 1976. Wow. According to your very own argument, climate fluctuates. The idea of global warming/climate change doesn't disagree with that idea at all, by the way.

You can have instances of downward trends while still having a cumulative upward trend. If you need me to draw you a picture, I'm afraid I can't help you. I suck with photoshop. :csad:

Also, I love how you find yourself somehow qualified to distinguish between the flawed science and the, "correct," science when you've clearly demonstrated a phenomenal lack of aptitude for anything even remotely scientific.

You probably couldn't tell me what causes wind without Googling it, yet somehow you feel you can distinguish the flawed and, "correct," science behind climate change.

Correction: When science is "RIGHT", I'm with it.

When it's wrong, I'm not. Pretty simple.

That doesn't make sense to you somehow??

To side with every scientific opinion is just stupid. Scientist have been known to get it wrong from time to time. Global Warming is still up for debate. Polar ice is thicker ...AGAIN. My heating bill is thru the roof!! This warming is killin' me!! :funny:

Or in another order
AGAIN I'm wrong, I'm just stupid

Wow for once I agree with you. :o

Science is only perfect if Dr. Jesus H. Christ believes its true, guys. And since they didn't have carbon-based emissions which could deteriorate the ozone and allow more and more visible light into our atmosphere back when he received his PhD, there's no way global warming can exist at all. Didn't you know this already? :whatever:

Allow me to translate for the masses.

"When science agrees with my political and religious mentality, it's right and I'll use it. When science disagree with my political and religious mentality, it is, by default, wrong."

But you did mention one good thing about science that your religion and political views lack, it can admit when it's wrong and fix the problem.

You don't even realize how backwards your reasoning is do you?
AGAIN, climate change is a more suitable term!

Why is there such contention to this awful reality?
Why the hell do you guys bury your heads in the sand and stick your thumbs up your asses?

It's called CLIMATE CHANGE PEOPLE

Seriously people... try reading up on something before starting dumbass threads... every month there is a "Is Global Warming Real???" thread... if anyone was educated in the modern day you should know Global Warming is a misnomer anyway.
